After 6 months of living here, my husband decided to unexpectedly leave. We would get into arguments because for some reason once he got here and I helped get him a job, bank account, etc, he became cold, distant, and uninterested in doing anything with me. Apparently he was able to buy a car without a license and he’s living in it. He has also been trying to make things difficult for me like spreading lies, going to the police to say I didn’t let him see his son which isn’t true because he has never asked. It’s been over two weeks and he hasn’t seen him and I had to beg him to send money for our son. He’s 20 months. He’s made my life hell when he’s the one who decided to leave us.
That being said it looks like a divorce is what I’ll have to do. Do I file for divorce here in the US or in the Dominican Republic, which is where we were married? Would I be able to ask for child support and sole physical and legal custody? He was only in our child’s life for 6 months, and aside from that ive been taking care of him by myself for the other 14 months. Also, how would this affect his residency here in the US?
Thanks in advance

Questions asked in the interview:
When and how did we meet?
How long have we been in a relationship?
Do we have kids together?
What does he do for work?
Has he ever had problems with the law?
Then they asked for proof of the relationship and birth certificate of our baby.

Congratulations!!! What questions did they ask? My husband is also in DR and we hoping for interview soon.
Thank you! I didn’t go to the interview with him and I asked what questions did they ask. He just said they asked a lot lol. I guess he’s just overwhelmed right now so I’ll ask him again once he settles down.

Was hoping it would be a little quicker than that, but it doesn't even matter. I'm sure you guys are on cloud 9 right now.
PS. Don't forget to pay his Immigrant Fee online before he leaves for the US so he gets his Green Card ASAP. Best of luck to you guys.
I was wondering about any other fees. Thanks!

My husband had his interview today in DR and was approved! I’m so happy. It was a long road. Finally our one year old can bond with his dad. If it weren’t for this website I don’t think I would have been able to do this.
Thank you to everyone. And to those waiting, it’s hard but hang on because there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Ok. I got CC on April 22 so I am waiting to get the interview letter. I am praying his interview is before I get there June 21 so he can come back with us. I'm taking our daughter back to DR for her graduation trip for a week and I am praying that we do not have to leave without him. Miss my MAN!!
Girl I know how it is. Based on other DR interview dates here it looks like they typically do their interviews in the beginning of the month. So you may get lucky.

Hi Jmariega,
Did your husband had vaccinations records or that amount he paid included the vaccines they had to put him on the Medical Exam?
He didn’t have vaccinations records so that’s the price without.

My husband ended up paying $480.

Wow thats a little more than what I paid. I went last week, with no immunization record, and it was a total of 450$
450 sounds a lot better than 580. Which clinic did you go to?

My husband just when last Monday he told me it was about $580.00 dólar he didn’t had his immunization records either
Ok great. Thank you.

Is there anyone whose spouse is in the Dominican Republic and got their medical exam done already? I’m wondering about the price for someone who doesn’t have vaccination records. My husband is going this Wednesday and we want to make sure he has enough money to pay for the exam.

My fiance is going on Monday and he has $400 for it, if you want I'll let you know how it goes and how much he paid 👍
Yes please. Thank you.

Hi did your fiance get his medical exam done already? My husband will be going next week in DR and he doesn’t have a vaccination record either so I’m wondering about the price. We have $500 set aside for it so hopefully it won’t be more than that.

Thank you for the responses. I have put in a petition for child support about a week ago. Seems like may take awhile. Im also working on the custody paperwork. A couple questions: if he does not file his taxes or files incorrectly would I be responsible? We are married filing separately. What if he goes back to DR. What would that mean for taxes, custody and child support?
