  1. So we had another appointment with MVD to get Arizona ID and/or Drivers License (attempt number two). We brought my husband’s French passport, EAD card and two pieces of mail with his name and Arizona address on it. They took his photo and the clerk started entering (promisingly!) my husband’s info (height, color of eyes, etc) in the computer. Suddenly she stumbled on something and asked for a SS card. We informed her that we applied and are waiting for an appointment with a SSA office. After consulting with her supervisor we were told “Sorry come back when you have a SS card”.

Oh well. At least we tried...

    Glad to hear that!

I also got approved on the spot and my case status hasn't changed yet, so I started to worry.

    Thanks for your information 😉

I wish the lucky folks interviewed for AOS shared their experience here.

How does it happen, approval on the spot? The officer just says at the end, “You are approved”? Did you get your passport stamped? What questions were you asked? What bona fide documents did you show? Did the officer keep any of them?

  3. For those who are still waiting for their SS card after receiving their EAD/combo card.

My husband got his combo card on September, 29. We contacted SSA, found out he is not in their system. That means USCIS neglected to forward his info to SSA. We were advised by SSA to contact a local SS office and to apply for SSN in person. We contacted a local SS office (by phone as all SS offices are closed to the public and services are by appointment only). They asked us to fax them a copy of my husband's passport, combo card and SS-5 form. We did it on September, 30 and followed up with the call. The SS office confirmed they received a fax and promised to reach to us by phone with an appointment date.

As nobody contacted us as of today, we made a phone inquiry with the local SS office again. They explained that they have only 1 (one) day of week designated to appointments for new SSN and there are "many, many" applicants, so they are backlogged and approximately 3 weeks behind. We told them that my husband has a job offer. They answered, that as he has a valid EAD he can be hired ok. "How can he be paid without a SSN", we asked. They answered that employers know the current situation and are allowed to hire people without SSN as long as those candidates have valid EAD. The employers would report to SSA and IRS the wages paid to the employee retroactively as soon as the employee gets their SSN.

I sent an inquiry in Sep 21, finally got reply. Here is the what they said

Our records indicate that we are awaiting your appearance for biometric processing. Your case is currently in suspense or on hold until we receive your biometrics.  Your application information has been entered into the system which schedules applicants for biometrics at their local ASC. Once you have been scheduled, you will receive an ASC Appointment Notice containing the date, time and location of your appointment.  You must take the ASC Appointment Notice and photo ID to your appointment."

I am not sure what they mean" our application information has been entered into the system which schedules applicants for biometrics at their local ASC." Does that mean I should have the biometric scheduled already just need to reach out local ASC to confirm the biometric date?

What they say is: You got your number in the queque, now wait.

You don’t need to reach to anyone. When your biometrics is scheduled, you will be notified (letter in the mail).
