That's great! Congratulations!

I remember my sister going through the same thing before she married her husband and he is white. My dad was totally against my sister marrying a white man, but they loved each other deeply and got married and are still married til this day, that was 20+ years ago! Regardless of what a person says about your relationship, if God be for you guys being married then noone can be against you. God is the Ultimate sayer of all things. He ordained marriages to be honorable in all regardless of race. We are all one blood!
Love has no color and no boundaries. God loves us all and He has no respecter of persons, why should we, right? Just let your fiance come and enjoy the finer things of life here in the U.S. and settle himself. Let him prove that he is the man God sent in your life. Your parents will learn to love him eventually. It may take a little time.
As for your friends....hmmpfff....been there. I do think that marriages of today are ending in divorce more, but you can show them wrong that yours CAN work. Be an example. That's what I want to do.
As Bobby Mcferrin would say, Don't worry, be happy! Keep looking up girl!

hoot hoot hoot! That's great and I am so happy for you! I'm glad things went smoothly, especially with the Nigerian embassy. You will soon see your fiance! God is soooo good!

You're my Inspiration by Chicago. Everytime I hear this song it makes me miss him more. He calls it "our song".
Also, Right here waiting by Richard Marx, this song came on the Radio when I was in Africa and we just looked at each other and smiled.

Keeping you in my prayers. Everything will be fine.

I wanted to send a bathroom set (towels, shower curtain, rugs) and bedroom set (bed in a bag, pillows, etc) to my mother-in-law in Nigeria- but when looked at some quotes ...the prices were extremely high.....UPS was like close to $500...can you believe that?? I mean, if it took a month to get there...I would be ok w/ that....if the price was reasonable. Does anyone have suggestion's or idea's or recommendation's???? I was thinking everything would be under 20lbs. Any advice is greatly appreciated
Hi, you know maybe you can send the items piece by piece. I too wanted to send a bundle of stuff to my fiance, but decided to divide the things up to send. It can be quite expensive to send them all in one bunch. Otherwise, if you choose to send the items by boat which will take close to a month, I think it will be a bit cheaper. I don't know the boat price. Did you ask them?

...and by the way, Congrats on getting an interview scheduled!
I will keep you in prayer also.

My case left US and got to the NVC the same time as yours..our timelines are similar. On the 24th of July I sent my fiance to the embassy with the NOA2 and the NVC letter (although they initially told me the same thing they told you). He picked up both packets that same day, and has already scheduled his medical.
I would suggest u do the same thing, my fiance lives in Abuja so I understand what u mean( although he just happened to be in Lagos that day)
Wish u luck.
Thanks Naijagal. Both of the replies on this post gives me hope that he will no doubt receive the packets. I wonder if it will still be there next week, he will be going down there sometime then. I don't want him to go there and they've already sent off the packets.

Thanks JJ for the response,
My fiance lives in Port Harcourt, Nigeria which is hours away from Lagos, especially if by bus. We just wanted to save time by probably filing online.

I need some
people. Just wondering if it's possible to schedule a Visa interview online at Lagos embassy? I found the Nigerian website for visas and was kinda curious if I could schedule one online. Has anyone tried going through the online thingy?
-
I like the Visa card idea and also the pre-paid phone. But how many minutes does $10.00 allow?
About 90-100 and though it is not like having a contract as far as usage. But, you can migrate the number into a contract once they arrive, and that is what we plan to do. I think the prepaid visa is great especially if thaey tranfer in a another country or even if they have to transfer airport. They can use the Visa to pay for excess bagage, get a taxi, food and anything else needed for travel.
That's a good idea. I think I will try that myself.

Glad you brought this topic up, Princessmetzger.
Does anyone know if it is a tradition in Africa for the man to see the wedding dress before the wedding. My fiance said that the men see the dress before the wedding unlike here in America, the man see the dress once the bride walks down the isle. My fiance thought that was ridiculous!

I also like the fact that in Nigeria, the kids can still run around and be children. In the US, you have to worry about your 15yr old son being snatched by some pervert let alone your young daughter. At this point in time, I'm don't think I would move to Nigeria. But I might consider living in Ghana (although it would cause a MAJOR upset in my family if I moved out of the country).
So true, you can't even trust family members with your children here.
Hello! Let alone having your family members here not wanting to babysit the children because they are a sudden burden or have better things to do. In Africa they are more than obliging to help out with the kids or babysit them when needed.

I miss the fruit. These people live it up over there with all this fresh fruit. The pineapples are to die for. I miss the way we got together every morning at 6am and sang and prayed with the whole family. I miss my mother in law fussing at my fiance for keeping me out late at night. She is the best. I miss going to sit and listen to the live bands and sipping Swepps. I miss the sound of this lady singing this African song early in the morning before anyone wakes up.
I miss the morning prayer time and singing at 5am too. Every morning I'd hear singing coming from the living room while I was sleep. I was always reluctant to join into their family ritual. Now I wish I would have!

Yeah, the hugs are great. I miss his smell too...cool water! Everytime I smell that cologne I think of him. David Beckam cologne reminds me of him too. There was this one guy that passed by me and had the cool water smell that waffed my nose. I just smiled.

I miss everything about Africa.
Pretty much all you said hit the nail right on the head. I truly miss the togetherness there and the openness. Love was shed abroad everywhere. I was treated like I was a celebrity. If I could move there to live I would. It's just that family, especially my mom, keeps me from moving there.
I miss the pineapples that were so sweet and tasted so real, unlike the pineapples here in the U.S. tasted ok. Everything there is made of real stuff, i.e. real sugar, whereas stuff here is made of high fructose corn syrup to make things taste better. Everything is natural there. I miss the rich foods. I was brought up on rich foods anyway. I loved the okra soup, the egusi soup, and stews with rice and pounded yam.
I miss my fiance's mom, she was so sweet and open. She always hugged me when she saw me. I was like a real daughter to her(I missed the way she called me "my daughter"). I missed the house help that wanted to wait on me hand and foot. I miss my fiance's brother inlaw and friends who wanted to buy me everything even after I kept refusing. The people I stayed with wouldn't accept one red cent from me to help them out. I think their rent was like $225 U.S. dollars per month and they lived in a pretty nice place, 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom, large living space! I always said to myself, "man, if I could move here...."
I truly don't miss the cold water, however, I did get used to it. I missed the warm showers at home. I remember having to boil water and mix it with the cold in order to get a warm bath while I was there. I miss the power outages that made people say funny things when it happened, "how could this be ooooooh!" or "HEY, dey bobo Nepa turn off power again, Chei! I dey miss my telie!" I would laugh everytime it would happen.

Thanks everyone!

Wow! That's great and congrats! Wishing you both the best in your lives together. God is certainly wonderful!

Thank you Nigerianlove and Ladylove for your input and advice. I really appreciate it.
I wish you both the best for the interviews. I will continue to keep you two in prayer.
Would it be too early to get the medicals done? I don't want to have him get it done and then turn around having to get it redone again because it is not a recent one. Does it matter?

Wow!! I just joined the forum and already I find a case similar to mine. My case left NVC for Lagos on the 16th of July. My fiance does not live in Lagos so Im totally confused about when to tell him to go to the embassy to pick up pkts 3 &4 or schedule his medical.
I dont know how to track the case to see if the embassy has received it or not, talkless of an interveiw date. Im trying to avoid the embassy "mailing" it to him.......Please would appreciate any advice ....
My guy doesn't live in Lagos either, he lives in Port Harcourt. Therefore, he has to go and pick up the packet and probably wait
there in Lagos to do the medical exam and then wait to get the results and thennnn get the police report. He doesn't like going back and forth to that part of Nigeria(he said Lagos is like Newyork, hussle and bussle).
Anyway, I know what you mean. I am at a lost as to when I can tell him to go and pick up the packets because I don't want him to get there and be turned away. That several hour bus ride to lagos can be an harrowing experience, to and fro! I want him to go next week or maybe the weekend to get them, but am afraid they will give him the red tape.
To track the case, email the embassy and ask if the case is there yet. That's what I did. They emailed back the next day for me. Sometimes it's a couple of days before they email. Also, if you have a case number just put it in the subject line and in the body of the letter, give them the beneficiary full name and the petitioner's full name along with date of births. They then told me it was in their system.

We got an email for an interview date set for October 9th at 7a.m. I don't care how long away it is, just as long as it's scheduled. God is good all the time, wow! I mean, it is just so smooth! I just hope and pray the interview goes smooth too. I also hope the medicals go well. The email from the Embassy said that the packet was sent out and if not received within three weeks for him to go and pick it up. We will just play it by ear.
