  1. Salaries

No, not to the remote ones.  But the remote ones I've looked in to don't offer any health insurance, and they don't pay enough for me to afford it out of pocket so they've been no-go's for me.  If you can find a good remote job, I think that would be perfect for someone trying to immigrate.

The Brazilian currency is extremely weak, so earning a so-so salary with a US remote job is actually way more worth it for me. Good luck with the interview and the job search 🍀

I am a US citizen living in the UK and moving back to the States with my British husband and British/American children.  I've been applying for both remote working and state-based jobs and have had several interviews via Zoom, but most of the challenge for me is that we don't have a firm date for when we will be stateside as COVID has delayed my husband getting an interview date.  I've just had to turn a job down because they wanted me to start on 4th September and I don't think I can be there by then.  You should most certainly apply for jobs in the US, but unless you can go ahead of your husband or have a firm date for when you will be in the States, it is a lot less likely that you will be able to find something now.

Thanks for sharing your story with me. All we're waiting on is an interview date as well. Very frustrating. I'm focusing solely on remote jobs and will only consider on-site jobs once I'm back. Just to understand, even the remote jobs are requiring you to be in the States?

  3. Hi all,

Anyone want to share their experience applying to US remote jobs from out of the country?

I am a US citizen currently in Brazil. My husband's greencard process was almost over, but then covid-19 happened so we're stuck here longer. I am applying to remote jobs that are open to applicants worldwide, but was wondering if it's also worth applying to ones that are only available in the US.

I know that it'll depend on the company to decide if they want to hire an American out of the country temporarily, but l'm genuinely confused between thinking that I should do it anyway to feeling that I'll just be wasting my time applying.

If anyone can share their input or experience with me, it would be super appreciated by this confused job seeker.

Some bg info: I am working FT in Brazil for a Brazilian company, so I have authorization to work in both countries. We're hoping to be in the US as soon as possible.

    Thanks

  4. Hi. I've been keeping up with the general US Embassy Reopening thread but no one over there seems to have any news on Brazil. Hopefully those who get their interviews rescheduled will keep us updated here. At the end of May we got notice that our case was completed at NVC (which was suprising because we weren't expecting them to be operating normally), so now all we do it wait for notice about the interview. Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us.

  5. Hello. We received our case number and now are waiting on the fees to be processed. I have been reading the posts here to get myself organized for the application and document preparations, but I have a question that is lingering in my mind right now...

I am a US citizen but have been living in Brazil (husband's country) for the past decade. Our intention was to go back eventually. Being young and stupid, I didn't really think it was very important to keep my US bank account or mailing address. To summarize: I don't have any way of establishing domicile in the US and now I'm very worried that this is going to screw our entire case. The only thing that I can think of is my father in law (who will be a joint sponsor) writing a letter stating that husband and I will live in one of his apartments once we arrive in the US. What do you guys think of this? Not enough, right? I have filed my taxes religiously ever year since I left the US, so there's that...

Also: do I as the petitioner need to provide my birth certificate, or only the beneficiary needs to? We don't have any kids or have been married before. I'm asking this because I was born in South Korea and it's super complicated to get a birth certificate. I read through the pages at travel.gov and it wasn't clear if I need to or not.

Thanks a lot of your help in advance.

When you try to call NVC , till you don’t hear a  ring before the message start . Hang up and try again .
i do tant at each time and this « ring » is the « sign » that they gonna take your call .

if USCIS sent your case on 09/14 . It takes about a week for them to receive it but you have to call to know it . For the case number they gonna send you an email . You will probably hear something pretty soon ( Nvc received my case on September 10th and I received my Case number on octobre 4th for example )

    good luck !

Thanks a lot! It just so happened that I just got an email from NVC with our case number, woohoo!

  7. Sorry if someone has already asked something similar here. But I have bee. Trying to talk to NVC every day and I just get a message saying that all representatives are busy with customers and then it hangs up on me. My case was sent from Nebraska to NVC on 9/14 and I have no idea if they received it or not... Is it worth it to try to insist to get confirmation or should I just wait to receive the case number via email? Kind of confused what I have to do now. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

I love how this thread suddenly became full of Brazilians! I thought there weren't so many of us here before. 🇧🇷👯‍♀️🇧🇷

I do think your approval is not that far. If I'm not mistaken, VJ was predicting mine between July13th and 27th. I was freaking out, but I realized now that they only got it wrong for 11 days, since I was approved on August 7th. I did not file an I129 and I don't think it will be of any help if you file now. You're already too close to your PD.

    Keep us informed too! Abraço!

Haha yes, I lurked here for many months, despairing on how long this whole thing was taking. Thanks again so much for updating because it made my day :)

I will for sure keep everyone informed as soon as I have news as well. abraços!

OMG! I got approved!!! 🎊🥳🎊 It only took 377 days! I just received the notice per email surprisingly. I thought most people found out through my.uscis page. I hope I was an exception and that you guys don’t have to wait as much as I did. It’s been stressful.

And thanks everybody for your support!

Good riddance, Nebraska! You won’t be missed.

Congrats! We are also in Rio with the same service center. Your post made me super excited because (hopefully) that means that our approval is not too far away! Our priority date is in the beginning of September. Q: You didn't file I129, right? We were going to but gave up because we're so close anyway. Please kindly keep updating the rest of the info as you get them so us Rio filers can get a glimpse of what to expect.

    Thanks! Abraços

All September 2018 filers...hoping to get approvals soon for everybody. By the way, how did you guys (American Petitioners) file/will file tax returns? As single or married? What was your experience doing so, was it straightforward or complicated?

You comment reminded me to check my taxes again and I think you saved me (Thank you!). I have filed every year since I've been out of the US, but realized a fatal mistake! My CPA has done them as SINGLE every year, since 2011. And I stupidly didn't check to see if it was correct. Looking at our email chain, I implied to him that I wanted "married but filing separately" but he understood this as single. But what's done is done... I will have  him refile the last three years, because that's the maximum amount of years allowed to refile. I feel really stupid about this situation and that I have to pay for refiling, but better correct it now than later, I suppose.

Does anyone think that the years 2011 - 2014 filed as single will give me a lot of trouble with USCIS or NVC? I looked at other threads here discussing this but opinions seem to be divided.

    thanks

  11. Hello everyone,

I am a USC and my husband is Brazilian. We've been married since 2008 and we both live in Rio de Janeiro. We opted for the CR-1 visa and decided not to spend money on the K3 visa.

I-130 packet sent to Chicago Lockbox on August 30th

    Email received on September 6th

    Payment processed on September 12th

NOA1 received on September 21st with priority date of Sept 4th

Case sent to Nebraska service center

    Fingers crossed.
