So glad to hear this. I resubmitted on May 23. Hoping for DQ this week!

It has been a long crazy haul at NVC. I never thought I would be here this long. I got to NVC in Feb (the day my baby was born!) and despite having a newborn I was determined to get everything done as soon as possible. I had all the paperwork ready, I had all the steps memorized... come to find out 5 weeks (!) after submitting documents that the Canadian police certificate requirement changed a few months ago, and what the US asks for isn’t a standard item in Canada. We went to our RCMP (police), watched them hem and haw about what type of certificate to send, and then they took fingerprints. Then silence. 4 weeks later we hear back from them that the fingerprints weren’t clear enough.. what?? So my husband went back to redo them. I found a thread on Visajourney about using a company called Commissionaires that could provide the same document. So we had to book a day off work, drive 2 hours to this Commissionaire office but they got us the right thing and seemed to know exactly what they were talking about. It took 2 weeks for us to receive it in the mail. So that brought us to May 23, the day I resubmitted. Honestly I thought we’d be selling our house by now and have everything packed up. That’s okay, the timing is in God’s hands so I’m not worried about it. However, it is frustrating when things drag on and on outside of your control! Hoping for our case complete any day now.

No, we had to order the proper police certificate. Not sure how long it takes. Maybe I’ll get it this week or next and then can upload. I am with my spouse in Canada so we aren’t separated, however the sooner the ball can get rolling the sooner we can deal with selling our house and stuff. I guess at this point i’m hoping for an April CC 😕

I had accidentally uploaded my household member’s docs under joint sponsor. Actually because I was unsure (they don’t make it super clear) what category we fell under until I was uploading docs. So I added the same person as a household member (you have to use a different name so I added her middle name). Then when uploading the i-164 I added a note in the note section saying “I mistakenly added this person as a joint sponsor when they are in fact a household member, not joint sponsor”. It was accepted. I never had to call in.

Yes all other docs were accepted. Just waiting on the new police certificate. FYI to anyone from Canada, the rules have changed since last fall, the travel.gov website doesn’t clearly describe what you need. See the thread below for further info - hope this helps someone. I searched for days before stumbling upon it.

Update: I received an email March 28 (5 weeks after submitting to CEAC) to let me know that my police certificate was not the right one so we are resubmitting that. It was SUCH a relief to hear back finally, after calling them twice and sending an email! I am so relieved that we can just submit that document now, get back in line and hopefully be done with this all soon I was seriously worried when I was told “no time frame”... don’t google ‘administrative processing’, you’ll just stress out
Thanks everyone who reached out and replied - I really appreciate the camaraderie and helpfulness of others in the same boat.

    Hi Kacey,

Here’s what my timeline looks like:
    NOA1: March 21, 2018
    NOA2: November 16, 2018
Transferred to NVC: December 19, 2018

I expected it to take 11 months, now it’s looking closer to 12 or 13 from sending your initial paperwork to completing your interview. I would say not much difference for Canadians, except that you aren’t disadvantaged by being from a country that requires more evidence, more proof that you’re not a terrorist, etc. Also other countries have long embassy wait times for their interviews and I believe Canada is pretty quick. Best of luck to you!

    Hi Giggles,
Once NVC gives you a login for the online visa application, you’re looking at about 3 months out. Of course, give yourself time to fill out the application and collect the documentation carefully so you don’t miss anything. It takes 60 days or so to process, and then about 30 days to get an interview date. You get to pick your interview date from a selection of dates. If your visa is approved, you generally get a 6 month window in which to immigrate. Hope this helps!
