That would be an illegal reason for refusal to hire: https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/employee-rights-resources/preventing-discrimination
But better to educate them than pursue any sort of enforcement. Save that card as an absolute last resort, if ever.
Thank you. I really hope they figure this thing out.

Wife used to get these robo calls for employment. "Press 1 if you are a United States Citizen", which is a violation of law.
I think because the EAD has an expiration date they think they will need to sponsor me after that date which is frustrating as it can be renewed. Although I will have my greencard in a month or so.

EAD stands for Employment Authorization Document and obviously the company does not know that. My wife only had her EAD and temporary SSN and she got employment at a national chain employee.
Exactly, plenty people have been hired so I am not sure what they are getting caught up on. They claim they are now checking company policies.

Hi,
Does anyone know how long it takes once you do your Greencard interview to actually receive the card?
Thanks

Hi all,
Recently accepted a job offer and was given a start date. The day before they tell me I wont be starting as they cannot determine if I am eligible to work with an EAD. It looks like its going towards the company saying that I am not a permanent resident and they will not hire me. Not sure what to do here. Can anyone pass on some advice!!

My application was received January 6, still no update for me either. Things getting really slow with the NBC.

Hello,
I filed the EAD with the AOS in california but for some reason it has gone to Missouri. The wait time there is 7-22 months! Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know if I will receive my travel and work permits before the green card? Really can't wait that long for I-765. The current date for Missouri is September 14 2017!!

Can anyone point me in the direction of the EAD forum with people discussing recent EAD processing times?
Thanks!

I’m with @C90 each state has their set of rules and document list, if the beneficiary is still within 90 days i94, they can get it for the validity of the i94, other than that you’ll need at least the EAD+SSN. Good luck 👍🏽🍀
Thanks for the help. What is the EAD?

Has anyone tried getting a drivers license?
we filed AOS around 2 weeks ago and social security card should be here this week.
is the social security card all we need to go through driver license process or must we wait for green card?
thanks

According to your timeline, you haven't yet submitted your AOS packet? I started my process earlier this month, and my estimated date of approval for AP and EAD is end of April. With that timeline in mind, if you want to travel back to the UK in May, you could be cutting it a little too close, and I wouldn't recommend booking anything until the AP is in hand anyway.
How do u find your estimated date of approval?

For those who have filed for AOS, when can you begin to travel out of the US?
we are hoping to visit the UK in May but not sure if we will be able to.
How has others experience been with this?
thanks for the help

Just to update anyone else looking. Took around 10 minutes. Guy skimmed through packet and said welcome to USA

How long do people typically spend in customs when they first arrive in USA with K1 visa?
Specifically in LAX if anyone has any experience with that
thanks

Does anyone know how I can check the status of my visa? The interview was yesterday!
thank you

We were also approved today!
very easy questions, was more like a chat than an interview. In there for all of 10 minutes and should have visa within 7 days according to the interviewer!

Im not sure, I would assume they will just make you get all the vaccinations which might be costly.

I was able to get an earlier date for my fiance's interview. We originally had it booked for November 8th but I kept checking the website (about 2-3 times a day, haha) and I was able to snag one for October 24th but considering it's only about 2 weeks till the 18th I would say it's unlikely you'd be able to get one.
It is possible that you'd get your visa back before Christmas with an interview on the 18th but I wouldn't book anything just in case! (Obviously, haha)
When did you have your medical? Sometimes Knightsbridge can take a while to send over results but if you've already had it then you should be good to go for getting approved on the day!
Thanks. We managed to get the 3rd of December!

I know it sucks but odds are even at this point if you do get an earlier interview date you won’t have your visa in hand before Christmas. After the interview if all goes well you’ll have to wait through Administrative Processing (can take days or weeks). I would say to most likely bet on January arrival in the US. On the bright side it will be your last holiday alone ☺️
We managed to get a cancellation for the 3rd! No lonely xmas!

We paid for the premium shipping for having the visa sent out, is this what you guys did?

My husband kept checking the website where he booked the interview to see if there were any earlier dates but he wasn’t able to find any. I don’t know if it’s possivle to swap dates with someone. Your best bet would be to log on at the same time and see if when they drop their date you can pick it up (idk if that works or not but that would be your best shot). If I were you I’d just wait until December 18th. It will be cheaper in the long run for booking hotels, transport etc than if you happen to get a closer date. Trust me I know the wait is long and agonizing but you’ll be with you SO soon ☺️
Damn, that's not good.
I don't fancy spending xmas alone lol

Hi guys,
I have my interview booked in London for December 18. What does everyone think my chances are of getting an earlier cancellation date?
Should I accept defeat and book my ticket to London for my already scheduled date?
Also, if anyone has to cancel their interview please feel free to pm me and let me know if swapping with my date will help you and me

in Bringing Family Members of US Citizens to America
Posted
Hi All,
This may be the wrong place, however i am trying to get a little info on bringing my mother to the US. I am a citizen and she is not (Lives in UK). If i were to sponsor her for a green card, does she have to live here for a certain amount of time?
Thank you!
