It's interesting that the word "lesbian" is seen as a TOS violation by the VJ mod squad, and has to be purged from a post.
Meanwhile calls to violence and murder are allowed to stand.
I don't know what's more disgusting. The calls for violent murder, or the arbitrary suppression of speech. Both are so thoroughly un-American it makes me nauseous to see them here day-in and day-out.

This is only true if you look at the world in black and white.
Why do people always say there are two sides? Why not 3 sides? 8 sides? 20 sides?
Indeed. Not a lot you can really say to that.

You'd be comfortable with the laws creating an environment where you feel the need to carry your passport while your fellow US citizens of paler complexions do not feel the same need? If that's something you'd be ok with it, I guess there's really not much else to discuss, is there.

You truly are submissive. They should make it part of the test for citizenship to insist on your rights. This country wasn't built and made great by people that duck before authority but by people that have the pride and courage to stand up for their rights.
Psst. You're destroying not only a number of illusions but an entire line of argument. That of a fellow countrywoman, no less. Shame on you.

The US government doesn't give you a green card because you are brown. It gives green cards to all aliens no matter what color they are.
Once you naturalize, are you going to go to the extra expense of carrying a US passport card around in your wallet just in case someone stops you because you are brown?
It might not bother you that you have to carry around extra documentation because of your skin color. But as a US citizen, it sickens me.

An ID specifically for Hispanic people? Do you really think that any person would be happy to be singled out in that way and be forced to comply to some arbitrary law that everyone not of their racial/ethnic group isn't subject to?

Could you stop spitting venom around especially when someone's trying to help you? As you were informed, Air France takes cats on board. Check their website. They fly from London to Phoenix with 2 layovers in times between 16 hours 20 mins to 20 hours 42 mins. Lotsa choices for you. I'm sure your child (not the kid as you refer to it as if it was a thing you just had to drag behind) will be able to survive the trip just fine (even with 2 stops), especially if you bring her fav toys, nice snacks, the cat that she loves, she could watch some movie and you could give her some love too. Lots of kids travel on planes. Maybe your child would feel less anxious in general if you didn't keep stressing the small stuff (which can be solved easily btw) and provide her love, support and a fun life. I'm sure there are hotels in Phoenix that are pet friendly. And if you have to do the 2 hour drive, why don't you make it fun and stop on the way to show your child fun stuff and make her life more fun in general.

BY, the white supremacist gangs are a much different beast. They do employ fear, intimidation and violence as their main weapons, but they are different in nature. I'm not saying they are worse than the other gangs, just different. The end result with any gang is a degraded neighborhood.

Just to clarify something, Boiler is right in correcting the OP. The Visa Waiver Program is a US government program. There is a UK equivalent which indeed works in a similar way to the VWP but it is not the VWP.

Straw Man arguments!? - its what YOU said, you stupid #######! Jesus Christ - you would spend a whole day arguing that the sky isn't blue, if someone pinned you down on it and you didn't want to admit being wrong.
You stated, quite clearly that if a police officer overhears someone "sounding foreign" or not "speaking English" that this (and this alone) amounts to probable cause for the police to stop them and demand that they produce ID.

Nothing changes does it. Egocentric arseholes remain egocentric arseholes. What do they care if others are affected by unfair laws, so long as they can make their snide, pedestrian popcorn chewing statements. Selfish fvcks. These are the people who ought to be booted out of the country - tossers who have no interest in anything that goes on beyond their own front gate.

So what magically happens to a legal immigrant the day he or she naturalizes, that would tell these so-called "well trained professionals" (the po-po) that he is now an American and not an alien?
Does his diсk grow an inch?

Mexico has a strict separation of Church and State. (For those who are curious in terms of history, some important figures might be Benito Juarez and Plutarco Calles, and the Cristero Revolution.) A religious wedding has no civil (legal) value, which is why everyone has 2 separate ceremonies, usually with the "boda civil" civil wedding before the boda religiosa. However, it would not be that intelligent to share those photos with the govt or address each other in letters or in the interview as "my husband" or "my wife," because they would be setting themselves up for a denial or RFE (when technically they are not legally married in any country.) They should never lie, especially if they are asked about it, but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to confuse the situation more. As long as they have not done a ceremony with a judge, or any sort of paperwork at the Registro Civil to get married, I don't see why they would be considered married. Double check that they didn't do any sort of paperwork at the Registro. If they did have a legal wedding too, then they do have a problem and do need to cancel their visa and start a CR-1, but if it was just the boda religiosa, it should have no civil value.
In the US, however, religious ceremonies can have a legal value as long as they have a marriage license, or actually i don't know all the details since I didn't get married in the US, I do know that one can have just one ceremony in the US while Mexico always has 2 and 2 different sets of paperwork and certificates.

Sorry for the drive-by, but I just had to say to Gary:
Gary, I hope that you are, in reality, some kind of very deep-in-to-character comedian working on material for what will be the funniest show to ever tackle the subject of delusional, self-obsessed fools. You have seriously got it down pat. It's funny stuff man, stop waiting, start writing. I vote for 'Gary' to be played by Wayne Knight.

Guys-- the K visa is processed by London and other consulates with the immigrant visas because it has stricter requirements than say a tourist or student visa. And because the final intent is to remain in the US and get an immediate permanent resident card, the K visa is a horse of two colors. It's not a true immigrant visa where the green card approval and social security card are processed prior to leaving the UK. K visa holders do have to do the whole AOS process in the US, but it's so much more like an immigrant visa than the rest of these:

A-1/A-2 Visa Diplomats & Foreign Government Officials
A-3 Visa Domestic Employee of a A-1/A-2 Visa holder
B-1 Visa Business visitors, Domestic Employees, Academics, Researchers and Students
B-2 Visa Holiday, tourism, medical treatment
C-1 Visa Transiting the United States
C-1/D Visa Crewmembers working on air or sea carriers
    E-1/E-2 Visa Treaty Trader/Investor
    E-3 Visa Australian professional speciality
F-1/M-1 Visa Students: academic & vocational
G-1/G-4 Visa Employees of an International Organization
G-5 Visa Domestic Employee of a G-1/G-4 visa
H Visa Employment based visas including the H-3 trainee visa
    L Visa Intra-company transferees
I Visa Journalists & Members of the Media
J-1 Visa Exchange Visitor, Academics, Au-pairs, Interns
NATO Visa Foreign Military Personnel stationed in the U.S.
O or P Visa Persons with extraordinary ability in Sciences, Arts, Education, Business or Athletics
    Q Visa International Cultural Exchange
    R Visa Religious Worker
Wow, that's a bunch of visas!
It's not really about London thinking they're special. I know you're angry at them, but hang in there (to the ones still waiting.) It's the not knowing that makes you crazy.

Welcome to the world of US immigration. When I went for the biometrics for my citizenship application the instructions said "Bring your driving license as identification unless you are applying for citizenship when your Green Card should be used instead." On the day I was required to produce both my driving license and Green Card
What we in fact know is that those people were not asked for the original documents. If instructions tell you to take them, play safe.

Please wind your neck in, I was making a general point having been around these forums for quite a few years and visited the Embassy in London for both professional and social reasons for quite a few years before I moved over here. I still count some of the COs in London as friends. I made no reference to any one person but referred to comments I had seen made here which no doubt made in good faith were misleading. If you failed to see that I really don't see how much simpler I can put it.

I think you miss the point I was making which was in general terms rather that specifics as I've also seen people told that a letter of intent is not needed when the circumstances are the same. Practice and manual sometimes are out of sync and we are not the ones inconvenienced when they suddenly line up unexpectedly.

It is the other way around, the need is not consulate specific it is the Con Off manual for it to be produced. London at the current time do not ask for it. You cannot say it is not needed, rather that is not the practice to ask for it. Let people decide for themselves if they want to take it or not. Far better to understand the situation and to decide for themselves to take something not asked for than to be asked for something they don't have.
Use to read similar advice to people doing DCF in London that all that was required for domicile was to say you were moving back to the US. Of course the manual said otherwise and one day someone got asked for their proof of US domicile and denied their visa until they could prove it.

I've added this to the list, I'd love to hear how you do it!
    For everyone:
How to make a new page.
Say you want to make a new page called: UK - How to watch UK TV and Sports. You go to the UK FAQ page, and click edit on the Living in the US section, and create a link to a page that doesn't exist yet. You do this by typing double square brackets around the title of the wiki page. So in this case I would type: [[uK - How to watch UK TV and Sports]]. Then save the changes.
When the page is saved, you'll see your new link is red. This means there is currently no page with that title. Click on your new link, and it will open the edit page. Type what ever you like, and save the changes.
You now have a new wiki page, that is already linked to, from the main UK FAQ page.
