  1. 28 Days Later is bad ????? nooooo - it is a brilliant film, and the sequel was good too. Also agree that Transformers cannot be put in the shite pile.... I am donating "how to get ahead in advertising"...... awful, just awful. Top spots go to Lord of The Rings and Ben Hur - could watch them again and again.

  2. The community track where I go walking has a large pond with several geese and ducks. I was noticing that as of late, the ducks and geese just come up to the walking track and stare at me. There is this one with a red beak that I think could possibly be a turkey and it really just looks at me :o . I did not notice this behavior when I first started walking here almost ten months ago, but now it seems like these animals have an attitude. Has anyone else observed this with animals?

before the recession, these ducks and geese were used to handouts. however, wanting more like the goose that laid the golden egg, they voted for obama. they believed his claims of change and hope and are now left disillusioned and hungry as people are too broke to buy bread to feed these ducks and geese.

    :rofl::lol:

  3. Bill,

I decided to do a little searching and found some interesting things. One - this group that is behind these 'truthing out' revelations of PETA, is funding by the food industry, which has been a target of PETA. Not exactly a group that has a stellar record on the ethical treatment of animals. Second, according to one source I found, PETA's objective in taking animals from some shelters is because those shelters gas the animals or shoot them vs. lethal injection, which PETA believes to be a more humane way to put an animal down. Also, according to that report - PETA is only taking animals from the shelter who are scheduled to be euthanized.

Again, I really don't have an opinion either way about the group. The only time I really here about them is when they are target of scrutiny, which seems to happen often. Certainly, if they are breaking any laws, they should be prosecuted. If they are doing anything unethical, we should consider changing the laws to stop them or anyone involved in unethical practices regarding the treatment of animals. However, the idea that a group wishes to be an advocate for the ethical treatment of animals, whether they call themselves PETA or Bill - Friend of All Creatures, Great and Small, is a noble one, IMO.

This is probably the only time you will read these words from me...... I am with Mr Pants on this.

  4. I'm very happy that the Khmer Rouge Tribunal is taking place after more than 30 years of my father, mother relatives seek the justice that these people have done.

I hear my dad talking about war stories all the time when he was a soldier fighting against the Khmer Rouge as I grew up. He never get to see his parents again at 19. He got separated by the Khmer Rouge forces. They had to split to hide from them. He finally able to get in contact with her again after 20 years. She died last year. My father was so upset because he wasn't able to see her funeral.

I wasn't born during the war, but, I am close with my parents. Getting a one on one with them of how life is like, I can almost see the fears from the victims like I know them.

The US Ambassador to the UN on Economic and Social Affairs under Bush, Sichan Siv, is a Cambodian. His entire family died from the war except for him. He came to the US with less than $3 in his pocket. He was a dishwasher, waiter, then Taxi driver. He was in his late 20s when he came. Then, through a series of events he managed to elevate to a millionaire in a matter of 2-3 years.

There's so many stories. David Chandler have been writing books about Cambodia. Look him up to read more.

I was deeply moved by "First they killed my father". A powerful story.

I couldn't put that book down. When Broken Glass Floats is another one I recommend.

  5. Sheep are enjoying the thought of eating at the trough for free. Can't wait till the sheep realize the bill from the bureaucracy becomes due.

Tex, you are being blatantly ignorant or just plain stupid. If you have medical insurance now, it is with a private insurance carrier. The proposal is to switch from private insurance (for profit) to a single payer (non-profit). Doctors and hospitals will remain the same as they are now.

Less a bunch of administrative staff that they currently have to employ to accommodate the worst red tape of any heath care system anywhere in the world which has been brought to us by - you guessed it - the private enterprise insurance system we continue to serve.

    TOO MUCH LOGIC!!

To be fair, I think Dale brought up an important issue - how will doctors and hospitals be able to negotiate fees for their services under a single-payer insurance system? What will stand in the way of this public insurance from dictating what they will pay to doctors and hospitals?

Indeed. Great points that can be addressed by the medical/insurance industries coming to terms with themselves. They(we) are not gods and do not need to be overcharging out of greed. Maybe the government can act as a conduit to convey that message on behalf of the citizens and residents of this nation?

Forcing down wages will force those who consider themselves to be worth more than the wage ceiling out of the profession. Then you'll have a shortage of labor and of quality.

Ironically, take out the insurance costs that have been blown out of proportion by private carriers as well as frivolous lawsuits and right there you have a HUGE chunk of change as to why many MDs have such huge salaries.

The rest of the profession will have to come to grips with making a little bit less. Then that can help filter out those that are in it for the money instead of the calling to heal- which is what it should be from the beginning. Besides, they can still make QUITE A LARGE AMOUNT without being overly excessive. Nobody is taking their livelihoods away.

what a ridiculous post. Why should medical professionals "come to grips with making a little less"? They didn't study for years, and rack up hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt to have the likes of you try and hinder their income with your socialist leanings. You do not get to determine what is and what isn't an appropriate salary for anyone besides yourself. Stop hating on those who earn higher incomes - it isn't an admirable quality.

Another medical professional making idiot opinions? Oh no, its just Britty.

Check my previous post, foot-in-mouther. And re-read the one you react to like baking soda on vinegar.

why? - has the intended message changed?

  7. The liberals don't care. The productive members of society must be punished.

I dislike the use of the name, "liberals" to describe crooks, a liberal is a person that see things the way they are, see many faults in the old system, and attempts to find a better way of dealing with matters.

This is a situation where criminals are using junk science to gain more money in their pockets, just call them crooks.

    oh you are funny

  8. Its possible also that he exacerbated the situation and created a gunfight that could have been avoided - if the guy was permitted to take the money and leave.

We can only speculate of course - but if the customer was shot at least 3 times (it doesn't say how many rounds were exchanged) it was clearly a fairly protracted gun fight. It also doesn't say exactly how many people were in the restaurant.

    you are pure comedy....

  9. Yes, but that's not really the point is it? None of those employees taxes are not coming out of the bottom line of the corporation. They pass straight through. Same with stock holders. It's really not that relevant.

#######. As I said before, the rich are not crippled by taxes, they are only taxed at the higher rate on a portion of their income and it's not even that high relatively. I am not in the highest bracket, but I sure as hell would like to be and I wouldn't begrudge paying the higher rate :) Of course, the other thing to do is ensure that taxes are spent efficiently, hence the need for health care reform and other measures.

When you get to the highest bracket, if that ever happens, let me know and I would be happy to pass down some tips on handling your new "rich" status.

I am not ashamed that I don't earn that much - it would be nice and as I don't have a problem with the tax system, I don't suppose I would need to find ways to avoid paying taxes.

My point was that paying the highest rate of tax does not make one "rich". It is an uninformed assumption sometimes made.

  11. Yeah and he hit his head on Marine 1 too! Yay!

But I wish I had a video of it but something tells me that Obama didn't look quite as "dorkish" as Bush did. That's a guess of course, I could be wrong.

No comparisons! :protest: Let Barry set his own standard of dorkishness!

I haven't seen him be a dork at all. He's way too smooth for that. No way he's as dorkish as Bush or god forbid, Al Gore. Yikes! So I think he'll disappoint you if you're expecting him to be a dork. He's way too cool.

    medication much?
