    Hi, everyone.

I just got my NOA1 two days ago, so still a long to go on the AOS journey.

But I'm currently considering getting a drivers license.

I have a Chinese drivers license and the international certificate of it.

I know with that, I can schedule a road test withouth getting a permit.

But problem is, I applied for SSN with my maiden name before marriage, and havent changed it on ss card yet since I was told to go in and update it with EAD by SSA employee in Minneapplis.

So will that be a problem if I go in DMV and request a written or road test?

Also my I-94 will expire on November 1st, so if I want a drivers license, I should apply for it as soon as possible correct?

My husband was trying to make me get permit first and wait for 90 days to take the road test. But I'm afraid by that time, my I-94 will expire when taking road test.

BTW, we went in dmv last saturday and applied for state ID with my maiden name.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

Just want to update my situation.

So I went to SSA and had my name updated to my married name. Then applied for state ID with married name.

Yesterday I went to DMV to take my written test with my state ID as identification since my I-94 already expired on Nov 1.

So it turns out even with the K1 visa expired, you can still apply for driver's license with state ID in Minnesota.

Yeah we have to wait but I’m not complaining yet because so far so good my case is going in a pretty good pace..In this one and a half months since I’ve started this whole process I was able to do my state drivers license which I’m very grateful for that was important for me so now I’m OK😄

    Good for you!

I will take my written test very soon with my state ID since my I-94 expired already. Hope all goes well for both of us!

Florida told me if she applied for a state ID when she first arrived it would expire when her 90 days were up and there is no way to renew it from there. Even when she gets her EAD (if its before AOS) that will also expire within a specific period of time. The only way she can get and ID for a longer term is when her green card is approved. Not sure how other states do it.

    Thanks for the info!

I applied for state ID three weeks ago and they issued me a temporary one expiring January next year (my I-94 expires Nov 1)

Was hoping to apply for DL with the state ID. Hopefully it will work in Minnesota.

  4. Got a lot of things done in the passt week!

Biometrics done on Oct 3. It was a very quick experience. Took us about 10 minutes!

And went to social security office to have my last name changed. Waited about 1 hour. Also very quick compared to the 3 hours when applying.

On Oct 4, we went to DMV to have my last name changed on temporary ID too!

Does anyone have any experience applying for drivers licence with ID?

When does your state ID expire? I’m not so sure if it’s the same with every state but in my case, my state ID’s expiration date is the same with my I-94’s expiration date. I had to wait until I got my EAD to renew my state ID and get a driver’s permit.

I havent got it in the mail yet.

They just gave me a temporay credential, and on it says temopory credential expiration is Jan 12, 2020, not my I-94 expiration date though.

  9. Hi, I already filed for AOS and hopefully will get my first NOA in mail next week.

My i-94 will expire on November 1. Right now I’m trying get drivers license in Minnesota.

I have a Chinese license and translated certificate of it.

I have done some research on here and it seems that even if I manage to get license next month in October, it will expire on November, and can only renew with EAD

I also read some old posts here from an OP saying they applied state ID first and renewed license with it for a year of extended time.

But since that post was back in 2012, I wondered if I can still do that by applying state ID first and apply for license and renew license with state ID in Minnesota.

From what I’ve seen on VJ everyone’s paper gets scanned as apart of the intake process. It’s how they organize the files. As someone else said you should just correct what was incorrect. I wouldn’t reprint anything. Just sign in the right place. I would also follow the instructions and return to the address they specified.

    Thanks for the reply!

I have been reading many VJ posts regarding to this resubmission issue and I agree with what you suggested above.

One more thing about the address though. If I resend everything to the POX one they specified while every address I put in my other supported documents is the Lewisville one, will it matter?

What do you mean he go the 'wrong' package back?

Correct whatever was incorrect and resubmit everything as they returned it to you. Check the USCIS site to make sure the form has not been updated online yet. If not, send the one that is current.

The Lewisville address is used for packages that need a signature (FedEx, DHL, UPS). The other address is used for other mail that does not need a signature. Neither is faster than the other.

Opps, I didn't mean to put in "wrong".

But thanks for the information about the addresses which I didn't know before.

So it's ok to resubmit everything along with the correct signature back to the Lewisville regardless of what the NOA paper states?

  13. Hi, everyone!

My fiance submitted the I-129F package earlier but got rejected because he signed the wrong page of the I-129F. And he got the wrong package back along with a green paper and a rejected NOA with receipt number on it. Before resubmitting, I have some questions.

    1. Do we have to reprint every document including the I-129F form? I noticed on every page of documents I submitted, there are some types of stamps.

    2. Do we have to rewrite the check too? There’s also stamp on the check but money didn’t go through his account yet.

    3. The date he put in the I-129F is August 31, and I notice that’s the expiration date of the form. I can’t find the newer form on the USCIS website. Will it matter if we resubmit this form?

    4. The rejected NOA says "Please sign and send the application form with the correct fees to the address listed on the bottom of the page." The address is the POX one, but we originally sent the package to the Levisville one because it's faster. So can we still resubmit to the Levisville address?

Looks like I have a lot of questions :p But a million of thanks in advance!
