I had my IR-1 interview this morning at the Consulate in Montreal. Here is a recap for anyone that might find it useful:
My interview was scheduled for 8:00 this morning at the Consulate in Montreal. I am from BC but the timing worked out that I had been visiting my spouse in the US (East Coast) for Christmas so I came directly to Montreal from visiting him. I, therefore, scheduled my medical in Montreal and stayed 6 days in an Airbnb awaiting my medical results and the interview. I was slightly begrudging of the idea that I would be staying 6 days alone in Montreal in the dead of winter, but I really enjoyed playing tourist. It is kind of a special experience to visit Quebec in the winter - perhaps a rite of passage for all Canadians. Some things that I did were: walked up Mont-Royal, walked around the Old City, visited Musee des Beaux-Arts, shopped the after-Christmas sales on Rue Saint Catherine, and enjoyed the amazing food and cafes in Montreal. If you're feeling a little negative, like I was, about having to come all the way to Montreal - try to look at the silver lining. Montreal is a really beautiful city!
This morning, I left my Airbnb at 7:00 for my 8:00 AM appointment at the Consulate. I arrived just before 7:30 and there were 3 applicants in line ahead of me (2 families and 1 other lady). We went inside, one by one, and presented our letter and passport to the attendant. She gave us the infamous laminated page with your number and the list of documents you need to organize. I passed through security (just like the airport) and they took my phone and gave me a ticket to pick it up afterwards. We then went down some stairs and waited in the waiting room for about 15 minutes. My biggest piece of advice is to have your documents organized and in order. There is lots of information on the exact documents you need and order on the Consulate review page as well as the checklist the NVC publishes. I had organized all of these documents in a file folio the night before and I brought a binder with all of our paperwork from the whole process (start to finish) as well. I noticed some other people had to rummage around to find what they needed and put it in order. For me, having it all prepared removed a lot of my anxiety.
We were then taken upstairs in the elevator and instructed to wait in the immigrant visa area. We were called over a loud speaker one-by-one by our number to come present our documentation. A few things I was slightly nervous about were my police check (new one with the privacy act) and the Affidavit of support (I-860). Police check was fine - no need to also request the Visa one - the privacy act is what they want. Affidavit was also fine - she asked me if I had my husband's W2 and I said "No. I have his tax transcripts and tax returns", she said it was ok and she didn't even ask to look at them. I was asked to sit again and wait for my interview. I brought a book and read. The waiting room did start to get quite full and I was glad I brought something to occupy myself because otherwise you're just staring at the wall or fretting about your documents.
I was then called, by number, to do the interview. I swore that I would tell the truth. She asked me "Where did you and your husband meet?", "Where was he living at the time?", "When did you get married?", "What does your husband do?", "Have you ever been convicted of a criminal offence?", "Have you ever had trouble entering the US?", "Have you ever stayed in the US more than 6 months?" and "Have you travelled outside of North America or Europe in the last five years?". She said everything looks good and congratulations! I was so happy and did an awkward little celebration! She handed me two white pages of instructions about how I will receive the visa and I was one my way. I was leaving the Consulate and calling my husband to tell him the good news by 9:15.

I had my medical exam at Medysis in Montreal today and it was super easy! I will summarize here for anyone who might find it useful.
My appointment was for 1:06 pm and I arrived a little early (around 12:45). I provided the receptionist with my interview letter (email), 5 photographs, and vaccination records. She also took a photocopy of my passport. I sat down and shortly after the doctor called me in. She was friendly and efficient - asked me a few questions about my medical history, then asked me to put a gown on. She examined my lymph nodes, abdomen, and listened to my heart and chest. After, I went back to the waiting room and shortly, a nurse came and got me. She said my vaccines were up to date (yay! I am 31, grew up in British Columbia - to prepare, I got a TDaP booster and a flu shot). She took my temperature, height and weight. She checked my vision using one of those letter charts and then took my blood pressure. She then withdrew a little bit of blood. When she was finished, she instructed me to go to the washroom and pee in a cup that she provided. After that, back to the waiting room. The radiologist came and got me shortly after and I went for the chest x-ray. You have to take off your clothing on top and put a gown on. The radiologist took two x-rays: one from the back and one from the side. I dressed and went back to the waiting room. The receptionist called me up and said now is time for payment - I paid $461.00 CAD. She said I can pick up the results in 3 business days. They will email me when the results are ready - their opening hours are 6:45 am - 3:45 pm, so she did say I could pick them up the morning of my interview. I'm not going to risk it and I am waiting here in Montreal until my interview on the 15th, so I will go to Medysis on Monday to pick them up. But it is nice to know they open early so you could hypothetically retrieve them on the day of your interview, if needed. Finally, they took a quick photo of me and that was it! I think I was walking out at 2:17 pm.
What are people's thoughts on the government shutdown? Do you think it will affect us? Don't want to start a worry spiral here but it is something I am wondering about.

For anyone who has had their interview recently, which police check did they want? Did they want both? Or was the "Privacy Act" one sufficient? Our CC is October 17th and I just submitted the Privacy Act check to NVC as our case transfer to the NVC was after the date where they changed the rule in September. Just wondering if there is some actual discrepancy between the new rule and what the consulate wants to see. If you had an interview in the past few weeks or if you have one coming in the next few weeks, can you please let us know?

Hey everyone,
I just found out about another hiccup in the immigration process for those of us going to Montreal.
The consulate posted last week that they will not be mailing us back our passports until further notice because of the Canada Post strike. The website says: "Applicants should be prepared to collect their document in person or as instructed at the time of their interview. This will help ensure there are no delays in receiving your U.S. passport or U.S. visa." (Reference: https://ca.usembassy.gov/beginning-october-17-2018-no-document-deliveries-via-canada-post/)
This is good news I suppose, that our passports will not be stuck in limbo, and I am grateful that the Consulate is staying on top of it. I am, however, annoyed with Canada Post right now.
I also wish that this information had been included in my interview email which I waited for before booking my flights.
I already booked my return flight and obviously cannot cancel it or change it because I now don't know when I will need to fly back.
I wonder if they will start issuing them the same day or if we will have to wait until the next day to pick them up.
I just wanted to let you all know in case some of you are booking your flights still. Personally, I would only book one-way since we don't know yet when we will be able to pick them up.
I am sure they will have the strike sorted out by your November interview. Canada Post is an important service and I don't see the bargaining stretching out that long... otherwise many, many other important functions will be affected (beyond visa delivery) and there will be a lot of pressure on the parties to settle. October interviewees might be affected... November people: In my humble opinion, I wouldn't worry too much!

I'm one of the September cases still waiting and hoping for a December appointment (cc: sept 13th). I'm not even sure i'm going to be getting one then since December is a short month for them considering the holidays and closings. They might only do them up until like the middle of the month or so???? Anyone have any info from previous years on who Montreal works in December for interviews?
@SKB2017 I understand your calculus... just trying to optimistic! I'm really hoping September filers will get their dates soon. It looks like the Consulate is officially closed for holidays Dec 24th and 25th as well as Jan 1st and 2nd. That doesn't account for people taking holidays in addition to those dates so you're probably right that it does slow down.

KN2018 we should start a list like the August filers did. Do you want to copy and tag the other September and October people that you know about in this? Courtney made this suggestion, and I think it's a great idea!

We just got our case closed/ documentarily qualified with the NVC today (October 17th)! So happy to be on to the final steps. For any other October filers out there, I am wondering if we might get interviews in December. I count 12 people on here from August who got interviews in November. I count 6 from September who are waiting to hear about interviews. Maybe they will be able to squeeze in some October people in December? Perhaps optimistic but... fingers crossed!

We submitted all of our NVC documents 2 weeks ago and still waiting on a Case Complete email. I'm from Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Following along on this thread closely to see when you all get your interviews scheduled. Thinking good thoughts for you all!

Just wondering approximately how long it took for people from the point of requesting the Privacy Act police report to receiving it?

So what is the issue?
Are you saying there should not be an issue? Just saw someone posting that I should not be travelling under a non-immigrant visa (visitor) while immigrant visa (IR1) is pending. Worried that I would be in violation of 214 or something https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/waivers.html

Did you overstay?
No. 143 days of 180 possible days in the past year.

I have perused this thread and I haven't seen anyone talk about this yet. It seems like people are mostly concerned about CBP stopping you at Point of Entry when visiting a spouse on a tourist visa/ VWP. In my experience, I haven't had any problem at CBP travelling from Canada to the US to visit my husband. I also have NEXUS so that probably helps. I am curious though, on my DS - 260 I have to declare the past five times I have visited the US and I wonder if the issue of my visits to the US would come up during my Visa Interview at the Consulate. Is there any chance that they would have a problem with my visiting history at the interview or is this primarily a CBP issue? I am not overstaying my visitor visa and I maintain strong ties to Canada. Just wondering if this could be a basis for denial of the immigrant visa?
