The endorsement stamp IS THE GREEN CARD...until the plastic one arrives.....Go to another SSA office or speak to the supervisor.......

The visa expiration date printed on the visa is totally irrelevant as of entry into the US.

Thank you!!! I told my husband we will try another office.

You would think they have a policy/procedure across all offices so that everyone is on the same page. Sounds like some people have been improperly trained.

  2. Hello fellow VJ members can someone help clarify this issue my husband is having with applying for a SSN.

His visa expired 5 days ago however he does have the I-551 stamped on his Visa. He entered US last month and even though we selected to have a SSN assigned he still has not received a Social Security card. We went to Social Security Administration to fill out for a SS card. When the agent was entering his information in the system she told us/him that she couldn't process the application because the Visa was expired and he would have to wait until his GC comes in order to apply.

From my understanding the "issued date" and "expiration date" on the Visa refers to the time he have to migrate to US. Once he entered the states, CBP would stamp/endorse his passport with the date of entry. The Visa would now serve as a temporary GC from that date to the following year therefore the expiration date on the Visa is not valid.

However, the agent was telling us that they couldn't proceed with processing the I-551 stamp  with the expiration date.  Then she said that the system requires an expiration date to be entered in the field and it's not going to take the date on the visa, and that is the only expiration date she see. I told her that expiration date should be a1year from the endorsement stamp. She told me that she was not going to enter a date that i'm "making up"

I'm confused!!! Have anyone else had this issue?

I would like to hear from others if i'm misunderstanding the I-551 stamp and applying for a SSN. We have gone to the SSA twice and both agents were having the same issue with the visa being expired. I even called SSA and the agent i spoke with also said that the I-551 should have been honored.

Hello everyone, I haven't been here since my petition was approved and sent to NVC. I just received an email with my NVC Case Number and Invoice ID Number. We received USCIS petition approval letter on the 25th of June 2019, case was sent on the 4th of July 2019 and email from NVC, today the 27th of July 2019. It was much faster than I expected. Praise God.

    Congrats!!

They look at the totality of everything submitted to make their decision. Sending the updated transcript should help, but usually once they say you need a cosponsor, you need to find a cosponsor. Maybe the new transcript and some proof of some assets to make up the shortcomings might help, but I don't think many people get them to change their minds about needing a cosponsor, but maybe it happens more than I read about here.

thank you for your response. i know there has to be others that has been in this situation. I do know the CO can be strict however I’m hoping it’s possible.

I heard news from my co-sponsor yesterday that our petition have been approved! We used her US address so she's the one receiving the actual mail. The form (NOA 2) was dated March 14, 2019, exactly 10 months after Priority date May 14, 2018. I haven't received anything in my email. Hoping to hear about your progress soon fellow May filers! Will see you in the next line (NVC).

    Congrats

Well I just wanted to know how long it will take to get an interview appointment after submitting documents to the NVC.

My documents were accepted as qualified last month.

From Case Complete it took me 27 days before my interview was scheduled. This is not including when  i actually submitted all my documents, you can reference my timeline.

Just a light moment. We get a considerable amount of them here. Do not take it to heart.

Maybe he already has the tourist visa and just needs the invitation letter to show to CBP officer as to the reason for his trip. This guy should not surprise you anymore..

Ok, i understand.  Their entire marriage (which i call a situation) would live you wondering  WHY DID THEY GET MARRIED...lol

that is not the only funny statement]

the one where the man from Ghana sends her money

you can  not send money to the USA from most African countries

and sorry but most in  ghana (like Morocco) do not have a job

the average income is now $2,200 considered  now a middle income country

Let me say this. They have put me in the middle and they both confides in me (SMDH) how he sends money is through his friend that is already in the US. He comes from a family that has very good businesses in Ghana and he has a nice job also. I'm only giving you all just 5% of all that has taken place since i met them both. This story would really amuse everyone!! As one VJ member said, you could sit back and eat popcorn reading about them. He actually told me and my husband that he doesn't want to come to the State anytime soon to live. He loves his country and his family to much to leave. Also might I add he alway talk badly of the US.
