From the US's POV, a green card holder's primary residence must be the US.  Claiming residency in another country puts the green card status at risk.

If I am already a resident of Canada, do I've to inform and give up the residency ? Is there any benefit of doing so ?

  2. I've a question related to SSN. I indicated in the D260 form that SSN should be issued. I saw it online that it takes 3 weeks since they mail the card. Is there a way to keep an update on it's tracking as well and what do people do for these 3 weeks  ?

I’m hoping to get in touch with this service tomorrow. I just got the email did pick up at the consulate. I live in Windsor Ontario though so definitely need courier! Any advice?

I spoke to them today & they did sent in the person however I forgot to attach the letter by the embassy. So just make sure you do so. He'll go there tomorrow. I was surprised that Courier company didn't point it out

  4. So my CAEC status got changed to Issued but in the box below it says the following. Is it normal ? Also no email from the embassy on pickup so I'll wait for couple of days before sending some one

Your visa case is currently undergoing necessary administrative processing. This processing can take several weeks. As the officer told you in the interview, if further information is needed, you will be contacted. If your visa application is approved when administrative processing is finished, you will receive notification to collect the passport with the visa from the Loomis branch you selected when you booked your appointment.

Please note: Under the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act, Immigrant Visas for "Diversity Visas" cannot be issued after September 30th of the year in which you were selected to apply for a Diversity Visa. For example, entrants into the Diversity Visa Program in Fall of 2011 were selected for Diversity Visa 2012 Program, and selectees MUST apply and receive their visa prior to September 30, 2012 otherwise they lose eligibility to receive a Diversity Immigrant Visa, regardless of additional administrative processing. Also, some immigrant visas may not be able to be issued if the annual numerical limit for that category has been reached.

I'm sorry to hear that! That's #######. When my fiance sent me the documents required on his behalf for the interview, he had sent through USPS/CP .... and it took a lonnnnng time to arrive and arrived the day before I left for Montreal I believe. We were unable to locate it and it was very frustrating. These rotating strikes are probably causing a lot of mail to be lost/untrackable, and it's not cool. I hope yours comes to you soon!

Yes I hope so too. My CAEC is getting updated regularly but no response to my email from Embassy or change in AP status

Thanks Mevora. I booked my return flight for 1pm hoping that the interview process, from start to finish, will not last more than 3 hours. My interview is at 8am🙏. It looks like for most people it was 2 hours according to this https://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.php?cnty=Canada&page=1&dfilter=5&topic=

It's super tight so if I was you, I would've changed it to a later time. I was the first one to get interviewed so justmake sure you're there by 7:00 to get ahead of every one

We don't know anyone in Montreal, so we wish to find some other service to pick it up on behalf, but cannot find such service. I'm stuck here in Ontario at lease till next week, wish the strike is over soon.

I don't think so it's going to end in a week. It might take a month atleast or even more. Why would you like to work when you can get paid without working.

You cant have a visa issued without a passport.

Yes. This is what I said. They asked me to send the passport which I did but haven't heard back in 3 weeks now

  8. I emailed the embassy as well. Generally they respond within a day or two but it's taking long this time. Tempted to go to Embassy. I wonder if I go & the visa isn't ready, would they give me an option to pick it up or leave it there till it's stamped ?
