Hello,
I applied for my US passport today at a USPS office. I noticed that the clerk there clipped my original naturalization certificate to the application form. Did this happen to anyone else? if not, do you think I can do anything to "sue" the usps for that?
Thank you
Please proceed to sue the USPS and let us know if you win so that we also can make money. Thank you.

Neither my wife nor son were required to sign their naturalization certificates when they took their oaths. Now we want to apply for US passports for them and there is some question about how to sign the name. The general advice is to sign with the full name as printed on the certificate but its also advised that it has to match the signature on the photograph which in this case not the full name for either of them. We are planning on using the same signature as on the photo unless someone talks us out of it. What have others done?
I've just signed my regular short sign(may or may not be exact match of my other signatures) before even reading the need for the FULL name signature. I did get my passport and other things settled without any issue. So, I dont think that you need to be worried too much about it. Just complete the requirement at your best.

Today I have received Passport Card. Going to send this for SS updates request.
Today I have received my Original Naturalization Certificate intact. This concludes my Naturalization Journey.
SS Update: Sent passport card for this on the day of card arrival.
DMV update: My DL renewal is in few months, scheduled an appointment for that.
I will update the status of my SS updates in my signature as they progress.

I just noticed that your locator number was 69, but received a NGP in contrary to what you expected. Can you please share from where your passport was mailed? My locator number is 69 too and then I'm hopeful to get a NGP either.
@AlexUSA: Your observation is correct. I have double checked and compared with New Gen and Old Gen, mine is Old Gen. I have updated the signature accordingly. Thanks for that insight.

Not online yet, they said at the USPS that it will take up to 2 weeks (3/10/2022) before it is in the system.
Another person that I know has filed on 2/17, found online on DOS site yesterday. But the receipt date was 2/24 on the DOS site.
So, give few more days to find yours online but it may have a receipt date earlier than now.

FBI name check does finds it. It may delay your N400 process with FBI (during this time, it sits with the NBC).
As the lookout notice is concerned for only Indian Penal Code(You're told by the CBP officer as per your post), it eventually doesnt impact for you US Citizenship. But there will be some prolonged concerns, delays due to this.
Given your circumstance, working with a lawyer would help you.
Consult a lawyer before filing (May be for an hour or two).
If you get any RFE(Queries etc) during the process, you may again review it with the Lawyer.
Also take the lawyer to the N400 interview.
If I am you, I do dare to spend money for filing and a year+ wait time for my citizenship

My wife who I am planning to sponser, has a birth certificate without her name on it (common in India)
Does anyone have experience getting this approved? With secondary evidence?Forget about that birth certificate, it doesnt work for you.
For any birth certificate issues, just get an NABC+Affidavit. Find more details here

I kept my other country passport next to me, filled exactly what is there for US Passport application.
Passport Card is more valuable as its not just an ID but its a FEDERAL ID (highest value of Identification across the world), you get it for just thirty bucks. Go for it while filing your US passport.

Try the "spoiler" option that looks like an eye (between the "Size" and search tool.)
Thank you, it did work.

I am trying to find how to use the "Reveal Hidden Contents" option to auto hide OR auto expand my signature blocks. So far, I am using quotes option (see my signature below) , which automatically expands the quoted blocks, takes a lot of space for signature. Thanks

The 2nd link is about a change to the Form I-485, "USCIS is revising Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, to include the additional questions needed to apply for an SSN or a replacement card."
It does not say anything about what happens after a citizenship status change
I would like to thank you for your keen analysis about this (my) interpretation.
Baseline for my opinion was:
1) The above i485 links that you have given(I think the same happens for N400 also, once the two systems are sync).
2) Also there is a facebook user who has confirmed speaking to the SSA and got the above response. I have copy-pasted that in my USC notes below (link in my signature).
I will update my language as its my own opinion, not official. Thank you again.

It may not yet be possible. Remember the majority of passport applicants are born in the US and sending nice, cheap birth certificates as evidence. If it gets lost, who cares? Just pay $20 for another one!
Really this is a great opportunity to exercise your First Amendment right "to petition the Government for a redress of grievances". Contact your house representative and/or the Department of State, and tell them you think it would be great, if under-privileged immigrants who have no choice but to use expensive Certificates of Naturalization/Citizenship as passport evidence, had the option to pay extra to get those documents returned with tracking and insurance! At least with insurance, if they got lost, the insurance should cover the replacement fee.
Actually you made a very good point. Let me work on the process of petitioning the government. May be we can start with a collaborative petition to the government. Thanks for the idea.

I applied for my USA passport on the 9th of January and it was received by the passport authorities on the 13th of January. Applied for normal delivery
and the passport was received 16 days later. There is not the need to pay extra for faster processing times. Currently they are quoting 8 to 11 weeks for normal processing
and 2 to 5 weeks for expedited processing. Obviously they have caught up on the backlog and are processing the passports rather quickly. Best...
I too agree with you. Unless and otherwise there is an emergency (within few weeks), there is no need to pay extra for expedited.
But folks are paying thinking that the return of the passport book/card/naturalization certificate can be done by the priority certified mail if we pay extra(I still cant get if its really happening paying extra).
BTW, we dont need a new thread for this, there is one running giant thread discussing the US passport applications. Can you please use it with your post above? Thanks -

Agreed. However, I booked an appointment today morning to correct the ID at DMV. After this I will ship out the NC & passport back to fix the passport.
I will not expedite it this time, actually, I’ll request a refund for the last one. This was not expedited service, and cost me money and time.
I have been asking other folks who requested routine service and it was a 3-4 weeks process.
Good luck:
Before sending the passport and NC back, dont forget to take a nice color photo copies of both for records.
Also write a nice cover letter to fix this and also refund your fees.
-
Good to know that your NC and Name Change certificates are back to you.
I personally dont care about SSA(SSA updates happens automatically in 4-6 weeks in general. You can check its update on your SSA account.) Also I dont really care about my DL update as it doesnt make any difference for me.
I only care about getting the right passport book and passport card and my NC original. Everything else can be done using the passport book/card from that point onwards. Try to fix your passport book and card as soon as you can. Good luck.
