  1. has anyone had to get police clearance from Saudi Arabia? My fiance, who is in from the Philippines, was there for 14 months. I posted a question in August about if it was necessary, one person posted that we needed it and to go to the USCIS website or the ASAWA website. I can't find instructions in the USCIS and the ASAWA website is closed.

Anyone that can help me? I really appreciate any advice you can give us.

    Thanks as always

My husband had to get a police clearance from Saudi Arabia however, he lives and works in Saudi Arabia. He had to go in person to pick it up. I think a possible problem will come into play if your fiance has to pick the report up in person which would mean he would have to fly to Saudi. I will ask my husband when I talk to him tonight if he can get more information for your situation and post the answer to you once I find out. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

  2. I read alot of posts about how stressed out people are, how the wait and separation is killing them, and how they can't stand to be apart. I'm not like that, not because I don't love and miss my hubby, but, I'm just not that emotional or needy (no offense intended to those who are).

Any more taking the wait in stride, or am I an oddball (as I've been told frequently)?

It irks me when ppl say their 'life is on hold' I don't feel that way. I think it's a lil ott, but hey..diff strokes for diff folks. But I also think that people have a way of rushing through life...when you're young it's 'oh I can't wait til I'm 16/18/21' then it's 'i can't wait til college is over/til I meet someone/get engaged/get married/have a baby' I think the tendency is to always be waiting for the next step, and often times you forget to relish where you are in the present. D & I use the time apart to our advantage...there's absolutely nothing we can do about the separation, so might as well try to minimize the 'unhappiness' of being apart by keeping as full a life as poss.

Oh, btw,I don't think your above statement in red could be taken any other way then being offended. You really should work on not being so condescending. Why automatically brand people as 'needy'? I think it's very short sighted and quite rude.

I also infer from many of your posts that you like being the oddball/standout/etc...don't worry....we're all unique in our own way...you don't have to try so hard to point that out constantly ;)

oh, No offense intended btw ;)

    I had a good chuckle when I read this...btw I loved your response (F)

  3. Just interested to know whether anyone else new to the US has had a variety of assumptions about where they are from? Im from London and its clearly obvious I am from my accent, however, Ive been asked if I am Australian, Welsh?, South African, and today, wait for it....Norwegian !! Now dont get me wrong, I realise that not everyone is familiar with an english accent, but I have always been able to tell the difference between Americans, Aussies, South Africans etc so I can never understand why it doesnt work both ways? :star:

You don't have to be from another country to be mistaken for someone outside of your own country. Just this week I was asked by the people at the social security office if I was hispanic. Both of my parents are not hispanic and I believe I speak English without an accent. Go figure

  4. According to the VRU at NVC, my case was reviewed this week and additional evidence is being requested. A letter was sent Friday with a list of the documents needed. I will be calling on Monday to find out what documents my case is missing. Does anyone knows if the operator will be able to tell me this information?. I don´t want to wait for their letter in the S N A I L M A I L, ( I still haven´t received the DS-230 package).

I´m assuming my AOS (I-864EZ) has issues with my income tax/employment situation. If this is the case, I have already put in gear plan B, which is to resubmit I-864EZ with a co-sponsor. I hope I´m wrong and get a RFE on my DS-230 instead. I´ll keep you posted.

On the positive side, I feel good about my case been reviewed relatevely fast. I was expecting between two or three weeks for a decision. So, probably my case should´ve been closed last Friday had they not requested for additional evidence. That´s why I need to find ASAP what documents or information they are asking from me.

    Any tips, suggestions?

I can only speak from my experience, the automated voice messaging said my case was incomplete (this was in reference to my DS-230), I telephoned the NVC and was told I was missing documentation. My husband did not mail his original birth certificate or a certified copy. Men gotta love them!!! I hope this helps :luv:

  5. I sent my I-864 to the NVC about a month ago and a couple of weeks ago I received a letter from the NVC saying they were missing the DS-230. My husband sent the DS-230 and they received it on yesterday. I checked the voice recording today and it says they have received the missing information and expect 6-8 weeks for the processing to be complete. Does anyone know if in fact it takes 6-8 weeks for them to review the DS-230 and send the information to the consulate? Does anyone also know how long it takes to get an interview? The thought of having to wait another 2 months is quite depressing, we have already been apart for 8 months. If anyone knows anything pleeeeeeeeeeeeease let me know :crying:

  6. I've been searching for help on this on the forums, but haven't really found anything, so I'm hoping someone out there can help me!

I'm starting to write my resume (my work authorisation has come through - wooo! ) but I don't know to address my degree...I have a UK degree and don't really know what to do about my grade. Should I list my grade? or just say I have a BSc in my subject?

Any other tips for a US resume would be great (or website links!)

    Many thanks!

    Vanessa

    Hi Vanessa,

Congrats on your work authorization  I used to work in the UK many years ago for Oxford University Press and I loved my job. I hated to leave it but I had to return to the US. Anyway, I said that to say this, speaking from experience (although it was a while back), there is a difference in what is required in a resume here in the US vs the UK. Some of the differences I have found are format and spelling. For instance the spelling of authorisation is correct in England and in the USA it is spelled authorization, even the way you write the date is different. I remember being pulled aside by my supervisor when I was in England and him saying to me "Pam you have got to watch the way you write your dates." I was writing the date July 6, 1984, 7/6/84 and he took that to mean June 7, 1984. Those are some of the minor things that you have to watch out for.

As for your degree....I can't remember exactly what BSc stands for, I believe it is Bachelor of Science degree. I also know you have A levels and O levels. If in fact you do have a university degree then you would put that down as a Bachelor of Sciene or Bachelor of Arts (also known as a BS or BA degree)in your subject. I wouldn't put your grade down.

A website that will help you create your resume is: www.monster.com

This is great website to help you create your resume. Finally, if you can write a resume that is one page long, great, if you can't, try not to make it over 2 pages max. Also a lot of the organizations will use computers to weed out resumes, and if there are no key words that relate to the position you are applying for that a computer they use for scanning your resume can pick up on, then your resume may not be seen at all and put into the discard file. However, if an organization actually has someone to screen your resume, they like to see a quick summary of your skills at first glance and they do not want to spend time going through pages of information to decide whether they should invite you for an interview.

I know I have said a lot, but I think these suggestions will help you not make mistakes too many people make when writing a resume.

Congrats once again to you and good luck (F)

  7. Hi,

The other thing you want to make sure of is that you send the appropriate documents with the DS230.. depending on which consulate the DS230 will be going, they may require additional paper work to be submited with the DS230.. along with the bar code cover sheet

    good luck

You are so right on this one. Our case is pretty much like what you described, we had to send in the barcode and additional paperwork along with part 1 and part 2 of the DS-230 to the NVC.

  8. Does anyone know what documentation should be sent with the DS-230, I am using James's shortcut and have my barcode sheet ready to go but not quite sure on the documentation to send to the NVC. My husband's interview will be held in Riyadh. I have heard two different things, one is that Part 1 of the DS-230 along with the biographical page should be sent in only. The other information I have heard is that Part 1 of the DS-230 along with all the other information should be sent in such as birth certificate, police certificates, marriage certificates etc, to the NVC. Anyone who can help me out I would appreciate it.

    Thanks! (F)

  9. :help: Would anyone happen to know what the meaning of this message left on the NVC voice response concerning our case mean?

"The NVC is awaiting the return of the biographic forms from the petitioner, once this packet is received allow 6 to 8 weeks for the reviewing for all of your documentation and you will be notified of the outcome of the review."

The IV fee bill was recently paid and I am now wondering if they are refering to the return of the DS-230 since those are the only forms left to complete. I was confused by the fact that the voice response said they are awaiting the biographic forms from the PETITIONER. Does the NVC actually mean the beneficiary? Does the beneficiary become the petitioner once you are this far along in the process? Or are they saying they are awaiting the forms from me (the petitioner ) because I am the agent of choice?

I hope I haven't confused anyone with the question and hope that someone can figure this out for me and answer the question. Oh and one more thing does it really take 6 - 8 weeks to process the DS-230? Thanks!
