Absolutely right - it is not required. But it is something they often like to see as part of financial commingling for AOS applicants. But the amount of evidence needed to convince an IO depends on the circumstances. Canadians are very low fraud, so unless there was something that really stuck out as unusual, the interview is typically simple and things like joint accounts are not quite as important to include.

Just as a note regarding hr license, her Canadian license was fine as a visitor but only valid for 30 days as a K-1 holder. See https://iowadot.gov/mvd/driverslicense/dlmanual/section1.pdf.

    "Who Needs a License?

...You are considered an Iowa resident for purposes of driver licensing if you have: ... lived in Iowa continuously for 30 days."

When we called the IADOT enquiring the law,  they said you can drive with DL until like 1 year.   I was able to add her to my vehicle insurance with her canadian license.

I mean if you are pretty sure that you don't need a SSN for the next 6 months that is an option. Have no experience with name change so might be easier just to check the box on the form...

I remember I needed SSN for banking.

You dont need to have a joint account.  It was asked during our GC interview and we said we dont have a joint bank account and the officer was ok with it ( and GC is approved and waiting for the card).

My wife did not need to apply for iowa DL as her canadian license was valid and once she got SSN and EAD,  we went and applied her DL.  THe DL was given until her EAD expired which is like 1 year.  Now we will have to change DL with Green card.

Would suggest to get SSN by going to the office before getting married. He/she has time since not working, don't be lazy, SSN might be useful getting insurance, filing joint taxes etc before the EAD is approved.

You will have to go twice to SSN office since she will be using her Maiden name before marriage.  Then after marriage, you will have go and change to married name.  One of our friends had to do this.  But we just let USCis apply sSN for us and it was sent when the EAD approved for my wife and with her married name.

1- My spouse worked only in January 2018 and left the job the in FEB 2018. so will i put zero income for most recent Year 2018 in form i-864? or i will put my spouse income which earned in January?

NOTE: she didn't file taxes because she didn't make enough in 2018.

2- She wrote the letter explaining why she didn't file taxes in computer. does she need to sign the letter? or just write the name will be enough?

i think she still needs to file the returns even thought she did not earn anything.  She would have got all back in the refund.

  5. Interview done today.  The immigration officer was courteous and made us feel very comfortable.  He just asked questions to verify the I-485 form data.  Then he asked questions like if my wife was working or not. currently she is not. we did not have joint bank account and he asked if we did and we answered as no.  Over all very simple than I thought.  He gave us a document that states who did the interview and what the out come was.  He said he had checked Review option but he said he will approve by eod today and we will get the approval notice via mail in a week and GC (with 2 year condition) by end of this month.   The extra documents that he asked was the latest tax documents and marriage pictures.

    Thanks!

September 21 filer here. I just received a notification that my husband's EAD was approved and status has changed to New Card is Being Produced! YAY!

Question for those of you already approved: From my understanding, his EAD and AP should come on a combo card because they were filled concurrently. However, the case status for his I-131 still has not changed. Has this happened to anyone else? I am just wondering if it's a technicality and they will still come on the same card, or if they will in fact come separately.

    Thanks in advance!

We got the status updated for AP.  But i think you are good to get the combo card and the two NOAs.

Today has been 30 days waiting for a reply after submitting an online enquiry for my EAD and still have heard nothing. I called last week and they said after the 30 days I can submit a secondary enquiry which will be brought to a higher level... but again that can take 30 days for a reply 🙄

Just wondering has anyone any suggestions what I can do to help nudge things on at this stage? Should I try contact my congressman.. what do I need to ask from them?

Anyone hear of anyone else waiting this long for their EAD?! ..over 7 months now.

We were told the same thing when we called last week but by last Friday we got our ead and AP approved and today we got approval notice in mail.  You will get soon too.

Any September filers get approved for their combo card recently? We filed Sept. 21 and still waiting - 194 days so far.

My husband's uncle is terminally ill and we were intending of returning to the UK next week to try and make it before he passes. Unfortunately it's looking like we might not make it. Looking for any signs of hope at this point.

same here. waiting and applied on sept 17th
