  1. Update:

We had our interview yesterday a 9am at the Las Vegas Office.  Easy!! Maybe 15 minutes total. Agents very nice, professional. Really appreciated the agent's kind demeanor and courtesy.

First asked for our IDs and Passport and wife's EAD card. Agent made a copy of those and we followed her to her office where we were both sworn in.  We were together the whole time.

For some reason my wife's medical records from Bangkok were not in her file. Agent asked if we had a copy and we did.  The doctor had given us a copy of what he sent to the embassy prior to her Packet 4 interview. The agent made a copy for the files and said that was a great help since she would not have to wait to find out where the original file in the sealed envelope we surrendered at the POE went.

Nothing was asked about my wife's English language ability.  Agent stated she would ask my wife questions and if at any time the question/s were needed to be repeated, just ask her and she would be glad to. My wife asked her if it would be okay if she asked me to help as well if she didn't understand and the agent said that was fine.

Agent asked if we had photos to show her and we handed over a booklet of about 40 photos with annotations on each one that covered out 7 year relationship from 2013 to 2020. The agent was going to make copies and we told her no, the booklet was prepared just for the interview and we had copies.  Agent appreciated that.  Agent thumbed through the booklet for about 20 seconds and put it in an envelope.

The agent asked if we had things like utility bills or bank account statements showing both our names.  We had lots of stuff and the agent didn't want to see everything, just took four or five pages and said she didn't want anymore.  Didn't ask for marriage certificate or my birth certificate or I-864.  Agent did ask each of us how many times we had been married.  For my wife, only one for me this was my second.  Agent asked if I had copy of the Divorce Decree which I did and gave her a copy.  The copy went straight to the large folder which appeared to be  either the original of everything we had previously submitted or a copy of the digital files.

Agent proceeded to go though the I485 asking my wife to confirm the contents. Agent read the last few pages with the Yes/No questions and asked my wife to answer each one. Had 2 clarifications, one with the  no middle name.  I had put NMI (no middle initial) and the agent changed that to NMN (no middle name) and a clarification on being refused a tourist visa in 2016.  No issues with either.

That was it!  Agent said she a couple of things to check but that my wife was approved.  Checked USCIS website this afternoon:

    New Card Is Being Produced

On January 13, 2020, we ordered your new card for Receipt Number

That was it!  Hope everyone has the same great experience!

  2. Bummer you have these issues Loren.  My wife is also on a K1 from Thailand..  Sent in paperwork for AOS in June, received EAD/AP card last week and then....surprise!!  received AOS green card interview for 13 January!!!  Somewhat taken aback by the rapid interview date so soon after the EAD/AP and total time only about 7 months instead of the nearly year long process we were expecting. We are going to get her Nevada Real ID renewed this week even though the Green Card interview is only a month later.  Will get another Nevada Real ID updated again after we have her Green Card...no big deal to pay the few dollars for a new ID, besides, my wife will need to learn how to drive and get a driver's license (yeah, a real driver's license, not a 3000 baht under the table driver's license, and a driver's license for a car, not a motorbike with no helmet)  soon thereafter.

Our appointment is for 9am, so if it is decided that we need to use the translation service, it is within the 5pm time EST time window (of course, it will be lunch time in D.C. and they will all be on lunch break, LOL!!!). We will be practicing the AOS interview questions on this site, just as we did for the Embassy interview in February.  We find that practice, practice, practice is the way to go...boosts confidence, calms the soul.  Of course, we have been together for 7 years in January, so we have a pretty good idea of what makes the other person tick.  Maybe the length of our relationship has speeded up things in the eyes of USCIS, who knows, but we are treating this interview as newlyweds.

We are not planning on needing a translator.  Again, practice, practice, practice asking the same question in as many ways as I can devise so she is not thrown by simple question asked in a different way (when is your husband's birth date, your husband's date of birth, when was your husband born).

My wife has a job offer at one of the strip casinos but we are going to wait until after the interview to start work so we don't have to ask for time off.

Hope you hear from USCIS soon on your rescheduled interview date.

Please keep everyone posted on any updates to your situation and we will do the same for all the Visa Journey members.

  3. 2000 Baht!!  Price has gone up, we paid 1500 in February and received the report in AoNang (Krabi) in 4 days.  As I remember, the officers (all female) didn't mention expedite, they just quoted the 1500.  I was aware of the true 100 baht cost, but like Zoltan, we just wanted it done and over and $30 more at that stage of things just wasn't a big deal.

  4. We had to cancel our March 14 appointment.  We sent a notification to the email address shown in the Packet 4 instructions (visasbkk@state.gov) to notify of our need to cancel and to request a new date.

As per my post above, we didn't receive any reply.  Went to the traveldocsth site and emailed again regarding the status after a week. We used the email shown there:  visasbkkiv@state.gov. and received a response within hours and after some back and forth via email, received a new interview date today.

I pointed out the difference to the embassy in the email address in the packet 4 instructions and the one we were using to communicate, perhaps there is an error in the instructions?

Whatever, the Embassy has been very responsive.  Recommend Packet 4 folks in Thailand mark the  visasbkkiv@state.gov to communicate with the embassy.

  5. Bummer!!  Had to cancel today's interview appointment due to medical issue discovered during medical on March 7.  Immediately emailed the embassy on March 7 requesting a new interview date.  Haven't heard anything from them over the past week.

    Suggestions?

    Call embassy

    email again

    ??

    Thanks

  6. Called Bumrungrad yesterday.  Hospital recommended medical appointment for March 7 to allow sufficient time for all test results to be completed before interview date of March 14.  Ok, at this stage of things we just want to geterdone.  We will fly to Bangkok from southern Thailand on March 6 and book a hotel until interview day then fly back to southern Thailand.  Staying in an inexpensive hotel for the week or so will just about equal the cost of taxi and another round trip ticket for us both.  12 days to D(ecision) Day!

  7. Good Morning Thailand Members

Fiance received packet 3 today.  I am flying to Thailand next week. We will meet in Bangkok to complete packet 3 requirements.  We want to do the Medical at the same time to avoid the cost of another round trip from southern Thailand to Bangkok.

Question:  Any Thailand members have any experience with doing the Medical before receiving the Packet 4?  I emailed the embassy last week about this but no reply as of today.

Will hospital/doctor require the packet 4 before allowing to scheduling the medical?

    Thanks

  8. Called the NVC this evening to see if the shutdown had an affect on NVC processing of my case.  Talked to 'Mandy'.  Very nice person, and she stated that the NVC is operational and not affected by the shutdown. Gave her my Receipt # and was informed that the NVC had received my K-1 from USCIS yesterday (Dec 27) and it wasn't in the system yet (well, duh!).  I told her I didn't want to bug them everyday and Mandy stated that I could call everyday if I wanted, "That's what I'm here for".  I said that given the holidays I did not expect much to happen for several weeks and that I would take her up on her offer to call everyday starting around the 3rd week in January. Almost sounded like the typical Thai response, "Lao de khun" (Up to you!). I was very pleased with the NVC person and her courteous and professional response to my questions.  Things are moving along and falling into place. Planning on heading back to Thailand early February to see the rest of the process through and await the Packet 3. Happy Holidays!!

  9. Approval noticed dated 10 Dec received today! No RFEs. Thank you USCIS! Timeline updated.

However take a look at the 2 photos of sections of the I-797:

The first sentence states approved, "and forwarded to the listed consulate. Please contact the consulate with any questions about visa issuance," No mention of the NVC.

The reverse of the document under 'APPROVAL OF A NONIMMIGRANT PETITION' - contact the consulate.

under 'APPROVAL OF AN IMMIGRANT PETITION' : If this notice states we approved your immigrant petition and forwarded it to the National Visa Center (NVC), the NVC will directly contact the beneficiary with information about how to apply for a visa.'

All the searching and reading on the forum shows everything for the K1 goes to the NVC.

No mention on my I-797 about forwarding to the NVC....so is it going directly to Bangkok?

It is Friday evening and no one to call at this hour as it is Saturday in Thailand.  Was hoping for some feedback from the forum.

    Thanks!

  10. Hi Folks

Getting ready to mail the K-1 with all requested supporting docs.

I have signed and dated the I-129F on page 10.

Made a copy of the Part 8 page 13 page to include additional info to items in previous pages.

    Part 8. Additional Information
Item Numbers 1.a. - 7.d. If you need extra space to provide any additional information within this petition, use the space
provided in Part 8. Additional Information. If you need more space than what is provided in Part 8., you may make
copies of Part 8. to complete and file with your petition, or attach a separate sheet of paper. Type or print your name and
A-Number (if any) at the top of each sheet; indicate the Page Number, Part Number, and Item Number to which your
answer refers; and sign and date each sheet.

Ok, so just to be sure I signed and dated the additional Part 8 form I used since I don't know if the sign and date refers to the separate sheet of paper or the additional Part 8 form.

Besides the Intent to Marry letter, the two places mentioned above are the only places in all the instructions I've read that require a petitioner's signature, right?

I don't have to sign and date all 50 plus pages of the entire petition, Right???

    Thanks

  11. You are correct Kali4nia58, I don't see any specific requirement to show financial support. However, in the Step-by-Step guide on How to File for a K-1 visa on this site, pages 2 and 3 mention showing some proof of an ongoing relationship....letters, call logs, etc. Each case has its own individual take on things.  For mine:

We have lived together in the same rented home in Southern Thailand for more than 3 years.  My fiancé has not worked during this time (I mentioned in Part 8 that it was not worth her working 50-60 hours each week for the equivalent of $225-$250 a MONTH when my income was sufficient to cover our living expenses). Actually, except for a part-time job in her home town in Isan while I was away in 2014, she hasn't worked in over 5 years.

I returned to the US in February to set up a residence/home for us and apply for the K-1.  She still lives in our rented house in southern Thailand waiting for the K-1 approval.  I support her with monthly wire transfers to continue to pay rent, internet, utilities, food...all the things I was providing for when I was living with her there. I would think that would be proof of an ongoing relationship, in addition to the Skype screen shots, no?

Perhaps a statement similar to the above should be included???

Kinda front loading for the Embassy? (The embassy denied a B1/B2 tourist visa about 2 years ago, the no home ties thing.) Just want to show the government we're still together after 5 years and are serious.

Input, thoughts appreciated in the spirt of the forum.

    Thanks

  12. Did some research (which I should have done before asking the question...duhhh).  DS160 "Case number/application ID number" is not an 'A: number.  "USCIS does not assign everyone an A-Number. USCIS creates an Alien Registration Number for every permanent resident. Generally, they do not assign the number to nonimmigrant visitors. Nonimmigrants include anyone that is in the United States on a temporary basis. B1/B2 visas are nonimmigrant visas for visitors."

  13. Thanks payxibka!  BTW I did some research on the "A" number (which I should have done before I asked the first question) and no, the Case Number/Application Id number is not an 'A' (Alien Registration Number).

  14. Hi Folks

    Two questions:

    1. We tried to obtain a tourist visa about 2 years ago and it was denied.  However the paperwork shows a 'Case Number/Application ID" number.  Is this an "A" number that I use on the I-129f on page 4, Part 2 Item 2?

    2. I read in the instructions that photos should be in a plastic bag.  Do you think I can include multiple photos in one bag or should I put each photo in a separate bag?

    Thanks for all your help!

  15. Hmmm...?

I may be overthinking this, but if "I do not intend", is the Embassy going to wonder how she will support herself once she arrives?

She hasn't worked in the 5 years we have been together in Thailand.  We were/are living on my income and I expect that will continue once she arrives, at least until/if she decides she wants to work in the US, so of course I would continue to support her.

What line of work is she in?

Patti hasn't worked in the 5 years since we got together.  I supported her when she returned to her village in Isan while I returned to the US for business.  Before that she worked as a waitress in the restaurant on the bottom floor of the Tower Building in Bangkok.  I returned in 2014 and we have lived together in Southern Thailand since then. We both figured it wasn't worth her working for 60 hour weeks for 6000/7000 baht a month.  I have adequate income to support us in Thailand or the US.

My (poorly worded) question was if any member has any experience bringing a same sex partner (Ladyboy in this case) as a fiancé to the US via the K-1 process.

Your first step will be to visit USCIS.gov and print out a form I-129F to apply for a K-1 fiancé/fiancée visa. The main requirement for a K1 visa is you guys must be ready to marry within 90 days upon entry to the U.S. and also have physically met in person within the last 2 years prior to filing the petition.

Yes, I have the forms and most of the documents I need to submit.  Patti is flying to Isan next week to obtain her birth certificate and single status docs.

I was wondering if I should be concerned regarding the same sex finance issue.
