as of 2015 the IRS stop letting you ammend a tax return for someone who didn't have a SSN at the time it was filed.
i was not aware of this rule and i spoke with like 6 tax professionals and did a lot of research online. i filed separate and was going to change to joint when she gets ssn. i guess we'll see what happens.

they consider the most recent tax year to be for the prior year up to the tax deadline of that year, so for them to say most current we would all assume once we do our taxes that is the most current, so look at it April 2017 to April 15 2018 to be 2016 taxes...after April 17th of this year the most current tax will be 2017
yeah that makes sense when u look at it that way. but I HOPE if i tell them i have my 2017 tax transcript, they would prefer that because obviously that is most current data which should be more meaningful for them....

I thought only pivot cases are taking longer....I think my case is a pivot case that'll be going to Islamabad. I haven't seen my husband since 10 months.
yeah im trying to make sense of the process or whats going on but seems like there isnt some pattern. islamabad is pivot so I THINK once we get case #, REST SHOULD BE QUICK (I THINK CC in 3-4 weeks)

No ours is not a pivot case. We are in the U.K.. It's normal mail process. Ours is ir5 case. And we haven't seen our son since 3 years.
oh wow i hope they consider this when working on cases because they affect people lives who are following the rules and doing it the right way so they should make the process as fast as possible. i would get it if theres delay due to security checks but most seem to be because not enough resources to work on it or bad systems and process.

you can but not as your main supporting evidence for support, as they are not requesting that one right now only requesting 2016
hm i can ask them but online it says for the most recent tax year. so i did my 2017 taxes in january and have everything done so i would think 2017 is now most recent for me. if u didnt do 2017 yet or filed extension, then 2016 would be most recent for u.

Exactly! I was so excited to be out of hellbraska but now nvc....... I just don't want to think about it anymore.
what embassy do u have is it pivot case? i know once i get # rest should be hopefully quick so i guess it balances out and no control over it so what can u do. i dont mention to my wife unless she askss because then shes upset how long its taking and we havent seen each other for 4 months. so i check up on this but have other stuff to keep mind busy

I called NVC this morning and they are closed!!! And here I was hoping to get my case # soon. I hope they dont plan to be closed for long 😞
wow i was going to call soon. i hope they reopen tomorrow and work saturday all day lets see. first theres delay from uscis to send over stuff, then systems going down, and now weather issues. seems like everything is going wrong lol.

as far as I know right now NVC is requiring the 2016 tax return not the 2017 yet, until it passes April 17th this year so you are fine submitting the 2016
I got my case # yesterday filled out the DS-261 and when I got up this am the welcome letter was in my email, and I am able to pay the AOS and DS-260 bills
hey khallaf. i already filed my 2017 taxes and even have the tax transcript so i can use that if i submit them say next week right?

your a pivot case, or what the call CEAC filing so from what I have heard those cases are taking longer
yeah i might have supervisor call me. i talked to them once and they said same thing so didnt see a point of talking to them. i also submitted online inquiry on asknvc section to see if that helps.

I called nvc just now and asked the lady if she can send my case to a supervisor. She said it will set back my case by 6 weeks if she sent it to a supervisor. Don't know if that's true. She told me to call back next week and check if a case number is issued. She said they have been thrown a lot of cases and they were working last Saturday and will work again this Saturday.
lol thats weird and doesnt make sense. on one hand going to supervisor is suppose to be good because it'll take priority buit shes saying it'll take longer. so whats the whole point of sending to supervisor.

one lady yesterday told me not to expect a case # till April, another said it would be this week, really I don't think they know.
they are cases that have been submitted for USC for brothers and sisters.
that is right
in that case shouldnt cases for spouse take precedence over brothers and sisters. i hope its not april

I still have no case # yet as NVC is getting through 15 thousand cases that became active after sitting on the shelf for 10 years, those are getting put in first.
oh wow didnt know that. wish they could tell us what dates they're working on and how many they process a day so we can calculate an approx time frame. how long do u think till our # comes?

Guyz, do you need your passport for NVC after approval? my passport is due to expire in a few months time, i was thinking to get it renewed but i can't decide weather i should apply right away or wait from NVC for case number and other stuff. it's been over two months now since NVC has recieved my case but they didn't even put a case number on it.
yeah petitioner also send copy to nvc as proof of us citizenship but i think if ur expires in few months its ok u can call and ask. beneficiary i think cannot expires in less than 6 months.

Another question regarding police certficate, did your wife get it from the police station of the area where she lives or from some other police station?
yeah i think it has to be in ur area.

So , should I take a police certificate from place where I used to live for an year as well ? Beside place where I do live now .
thank you in advance
i dont think so. she only had to do it in two places because one state she currently lives in, other state she has her family home which is listed in some official papers so i think thats why.

Hi everyone.
I am new here. It's good to see everyone helping each other. Best wishes to all of you for your case. I am waiting for my case #.
Can anyone from Pakistan tell me how you get a police certificate and how much time does it take to get it? Thanks
it took my wife i think only days and she had to get 2 of them. one for area where she lived and second where her family house is which is in different state so she had to get from there too.

personally I told them a lot worse last week, I mean if they don't answer phones on the weekend maybe they should use that opportunity and do overtime to catch up
i think in the end they really have no idea so best just to call and ask and if they dont know say thanks and call back later. thats what i do.

Hi.
How do I know if mine is a pivot case? and what does it mean?
We got approved Dec 13, 2017. NVC Received our file on Jan 30 and after i called them 2-3 times every week they sent a request to supervisor on 21st feb. Its almost been 5 weeks since NVC received our case and 12 weeks since NOA2. Just so frustrating.
if urs is going to islamabad then its pivot meaning u will submit everything online and not mail it in.

yeah i think that says u dont need to birng it to interview but u still need to submit to nvc.
