This is what I've heard as well. You don't have to register the marriage in the U.S., it's already recognized. Supposedly once you're married you're supposed to file taxes as married. Option 3 above is what I will do as well.
good idea. its bad financially speaking but u can fix it later once spouse here and dont have to worry about gettin ITIN...

Hmm ok. Thats what i thought. I dont see a any good reason to file as matried because eventually i will have to amend for her AND even though i am married my marriage has not been registered in the us yet.. my lawyer told me this..
to my knowledge all the irs cares about whether ur married or not doesnt matter where u got married or if she has been to usa or not or if registered here.

Hmmm.. interesting.. how did you include your wife in your tax return as she is not registered as your wife in the US right now and she does not have any social or allien number.. please advice as i have to do my taxes too.
well as of 31 dec 2017 i was married so i had three options
1. married filing jointly
2. married filing separately AND get exemption for her
3. married filing separately without exemption for her
options 1 and 2 require me to get her an ITIN # and that looked complicated so i decided to go to option 3. financially it is the worst decision but i didnt need her itin number to file and i will amend to married jointly when shes here in 4-6 months and get the refund then.

Question... on December 5th, they told me that I should get a notice within 45 days (keep in mind they did not mention 45 working days, they just said 45 days) so assumingly January 19th would be the 45th day. Right? Or my assumption is wrong? Lol
no i think ur assumption is right...

Hmm. Funny because last time they gave me a period of 45 days. Which ended on January 20th. Now they are saying "shortly". How shortly would you guess I will get a notice?
not sure but generally speaking they give estimates on larger side to give them room and so people wont keep bugging them but it shouldnt take full amount. like even nvc people are like give us 6 weeks to receive case but obviously it shouldnt take that long. i guess after the wait period is over u have a case where they must give u an answer...

I called as well! My case was received on 1/8...they said it takes 2 weeks to get a case number & that one should be assigned by end of day today. So hopefully they'll have it when I call tomorrow!
also how do u add signature of ur caSE HISTORY? i noticed u had huge wait between noa2 and case sent to department of state. mine was 8 days.....

this makes sense because we are paying for it also if u look up history of shutdown most are few days to a week so till monday it would be two days.
quick question. i got the approved letter and it has notice date of jan 10 but on uscis website it says they sent to nvc jan 18 so whats the diff between these two dates? im trying to figure out when should i know they sent it so i know how long its been and when to contact nvc thanks

Just found this in an article:
But it isn’t in itself essential to facilitate legal immigration to the US. US Citizenship and Immigration Services will largely be unaffected by the shutdown simply because it doesn’t get its money from Congress; it’s funded by the fees it charges applicants. But companies seeking work visas for their employees might run into trouble, because the Department of Labor office that needs to approve their petition would be closed.
😊

would government shutdown cause issue with uscis or nvc?

It is funny to receive a response like this, isn't?
"On 01/05/2018, you or your representative contacted USCIS concerning your I-130 to notify us that you believe your case is outside of our normal processing time. Below is a summary of what we found and how the issue has been or may be resolved.
Your case is currently being adjudicated. You should receive a notice of action* shortly."
why is it funny? it just means they're looking at ur case now and should receive answer soon so thats good.

Hi everyone how many people for Nebraska center has received NOA2?
We have been waiting for 280 days now and nothing I called them and all they said is just keep waiting you are on regular processing time!! Really!! is this normal processing time? how does USCIS think this is normal!! to keep families apart for so long and this is just the first step and they haven't even get to it yet I know they might never read this but I would like an explanation from someone at USCIS why takes them so long. How? one of the greatest nations on earth capable of sending the Hubble telescope and explore the universe, spending billions of dollars on war and hi tech missile and aircraft How?? they can't process an application to keep a family together this is a health issue of your citizens do you really care about your citizens? to me looks like you don't care at all lets say the US has better priorities than his people and there is no money to spend on keeping a family together how hard will be to let us know hey people we have a lack of personal to process your applications so we have to raise the fees 100% but that will cut your waiting time in half I'll be more than happy to pay $1070 fee and even more if necessary and get them here in 6 months I spend more money on plane tickets and travel expenses visiting my wife, so is not about money either so what is it? That's what I want to know are you punishing us because we felt in love with a foreign citizen?
I know everyone here has a different story to tell some harder than others but on my story I don't know if anyone here share the same frustration waking up every morning and put your self together hoping that that day will be the day you find something online or when you come home you will find that letter and nothing!! the world needs to know what is happening here all I need is a yes or no if you said NO I'll just move out the country and start from scratch at least I'll be next to my wife and son and we call it done because if you move and have no income in the US you can't bring no one here unless you find some to sign an affidavit of support good luck with that! and on top of that if your love one is on I 130 process they can't get a tourist visa because you might apply for adjustment of status?? I have look every option either way we are trap. I'm a proud US citizen but what America is becoming to is a shame when is time to kill and destroy the US is always number 1 but when it comes to families and their people they go at the end of the hole and sent you to Nebraska "service" center.
i feel ur frustration. it seems like they're slow because they dont have enough people. im sure this is a common problem of taking long so why dont they just hire more people and its not that complicated job so shouldnt cost too much. also ur keeping families apart who are going through the process legally so u should help them as much as u can. i was reading article where author was also complaining about slow process and said something like bush sr won gulf war in 42 days and it takes years to bring one person over. doesnt make sense. as of now we should be getting close. im also at nebraska and they received ours april 12. whats most frustrating is how people from may and june have got accepted and we're still waiting. doesnt make sense but who knows.

If spouse gets exemption we require it ....
yeah i found an easy way where i file separate now without exemption so i dont need her itin number and i lose money now but when shes here i will amend to joint and get money back so its easy and still get benefit. getting itin is really headache.

When I file my 2017 taxes I will still file "head of household" since he wasn't in the US. Next year I will file jointly since he'll be here in the US.
ahh thats good if u qualify for it.

I am a tax accountant too ...😄 So IT IN takes couple of months. But you need to send your original.passport to IRS or we need to get passport copy attested from US embassy in that country
ahh nice. do i need itin for all three situations below?
1. jointly
2. separate and get exemption for spouse
3. separate and no exemption for spouse
