I was just wondering how long it took everybody to receive notification of receipt of your package. We filled out the G form for text notification of receipt and we know that our package arrived based on the USPS tracking but it’s been almost 3 weeks and still haven’t heard anything. My husband’s green card expires next week so we just were curious.

We're in the same exact boat

You're only talking about 2-3 days notification from the carrier. The real notification(text/email)from USCIS is not reliable. Some people like me and my k2 didn't get any notification.

    My timeline:

    10-13-20 Sent packet via UPS

    10-15-20 delivered/received in lockbox

    10-30-20 check cashed

    11-02-20 NOA 1 received(noa1 dated 10-28-20)

I never get a text or email. I just knew that our USCIS mail will come within a week after they cashed our checks.

Just be patient and have faith Goodluck

Thank you Genski. I guess I am just nervous since we didn’t apply early when the window opened.
In your timeline when you mentioned delivered/received in lockbox, you checked your usps tracking number to see if it arrived at the location? This is what I was referring to on my previous post, I am unsure how everyone knew, unless It’s just a notification that your package arrived by checking your tracking number.
We did a cashiers check instead of our personal bank account thinking it’s safer that way - it would have been a good indicator.

    Thanks so much 🤗

There are threads here for the statement to be considered a resident alien for the tax year, and for the form for declaring worldwide income.

For me, personally, doing taxes hurts my brain, and I was used to having my brother prepare things when I lived in Canada, so for our first filing after I arrived in the US we did pay a preparer who knew about these things, just to be safe.  It was less than $200, so while that is pricey, to us it was worth it to not deal with the headache.

Again, search for the threads on here relating to the above noted.  MANY folks here did it themselves successfully, and there’s probably a lot of helpful info in there.

Thank you - I might have to go that route, after searching I found out FreeTaxUSA doesn't support foreign income 😕

    What a headache.

  4. I have been reading the IRS 519 publication for more than an hour trying to make sense of how to file our taxes jointly. My husband arrived here in July (less than 183 day rule for the healthcare exemption). He got his green card Feb of this year...I am trying to figure out the Resident Alien status or Non-Status. Correct me if I'm wrong, he would be Non-Resident Alien?

Also, his earned income in a foreign country, where can I include it? I cannot do a W-2 form because we don't have his  Employer Identification Number (EIN) - FreeTaxUSA isn't accepting the income without an EIN.

I am trying to do this without going to a tax preparer. Any guidance would be helpful.

I had a terrible experience too with my local social security administration. I should have checked the reviews of that office before going there, which confirmed the low quality of service. Unfortunately not all the administrations can grant the same level of efficiency.

I requested my SSN a week after coming with my K1 and in 3 months it never came in the mail. I called and went back to the office multiple times and I was never given the same answer about the status of my request. Each time a different story! I was first told it was pending, then I was told they were experiencing what they called "administrative delays", then that my request never went through, then that it was lost, then that I requested the number too soon, I was even told "I don't know" by a SSA employee over the phone. Very frustrating. In the end my I94 expired so they refused to look into it anymore.

I just let it go and requested a new one in the EAD form.

If your I94 is still valid you could try to go to a new SSA and explain your situation, but don't worry too much :)

Thank you so much for this! I take it that you went ahead and got married and applied for AOS without the social security number?

We got the license to marry and will wait a few more days for the SSN. In the meantime I am trying to get through USCIS Tier 2 officers and see if they can fix the problem🙌🏻.

I wanted to get the SSN for my fiancé so he’s able to get his drivers license with not too much of a hassle.

    Yay good luck !

I filed mine in July and still waiting for biometrics appointment which I hope coming up soon ( real soon )

I just want get it done done. xD

Where you able to get your social security number?

I am freaking out :(. We just came from the Social Security office and were told that my fiance's K1 visa is mismatched and we were unable to get the social.

  7. Is there another thread where we can continue seeking advise from one another after port of entry? The support from everyone has been irreplaceable!

My current concern lies with the timeframe of Adjustment of Status. The K-1 visa is approved for 6 months, after POE and marriage then applying for Adjustment of status — if getting approved for AOS takes more than 6 months would we be considered out of status as we are waiting?

Got ours too!! 😁😁 email came in at 09:39am EST!

    NOA2 - 19th April 2018

    NVC Received - 8th May 2018

    Case # assigned - 14th May 2018 😁🎉

Did yours say its being expedited to your consulate?! Im really confused by that!

No not yet, ours says at NVC still. It's on administrative processing then right after it will be expedited to the consulate, which means your case is on it's way to the embassy.

@Greenbaum  when I check my case I get the following message which leads me to these steps listed on this site https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/after-petition-approved/begin-nat-visa-center.html

Do we need to do this? I am trying to figure out the next step in this process. Thanks in advance

Yes tax forms are required to have a signature. There is something better to use and that's an IRS transcript available for free with same day download.

    https://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript

Just downloaded the IRS transcript. Do I need to print it, sign it and then scan it to email it over to my fiancee? Or can I just send over the downloaded form. I don't see why it needs my signature
