  1. Thank you for your reply, @chiggins82 ! I can always show them proof that I will return with the car (which is what we settled on for a plan), because I have discussed it with my father already, through texts. Hopefully that is good enough ! Thanks again :)

If your name is on the insurance and you have the registration, I wouldn't worry about it at all. I doubt they'll ask, but if they do, just tell them what you said above and it should be fine.

    Good luck with the trip!

  2. Hey guys!

I need to reassure myself that my situation is fine and won't complicate things at the POE. My visa is in the mail and I am mentally preparing for the trip down :)

My father is letting me borrow his car to move my things down (a lot of my stuff is already in the US, long story, been married for 5 years!). I'd be crossing with my husband and our pet dog. I was wondering if there would be any issue regarding the fact that I am crossing for the first time as a permanent resident. I've crossed plenty of times as a tourist with the same car. The plan is to have my father fly for a visit later this year, and then he could drive his own car back up.

Would there be any questions related to the car? I do have the car papers, it is insured and my name is in record as a second driver... but my father doesn't speak English, so if something would come up and they would want to talk to him, it would probably be a headache. 😕

We were documentary qualified June 28, and are waiting as well.  Our friends had their interview July 16.  It took them 3 weeks from being doc qualified to get their interview date.  I think things are really backed up :( I called today and was on hold for 1 hour and 20 minutes just to hear that there is nothing they can tell me.  We will be notified once a date becomes available.

We were qualified June 29th and still waiting too -- Please let us know when you get news!!!

    Hi all,

Just to keep you guys updated... I received my welcome letter from NVC. It was dated the 24th April (received in Australia earlier this week). So that took a little over 12 weeks.

Fees paid and waiting to get the next section done :)

Good luck on the rest, Michael! It took us much longer than we thought to gather everything... We even lost my police cert in the mail, but in a few days short of 2 weeks after we submitted everything, we got the notice that we were "documentarily qualified". I hope for you guys that it means that the NVC caught up some of their delays!

  5. Called just now.

Last week, an agent put in a request to a supervisor to generate my NVC case number (as it's been 9 weeks now...). The same agent recommended, based on my situation, to apply for an expedited processing - which I was refused less than 48 hours after I sent out my request...

So... I called back to inquire about my case number. The agent mentionned the petition was under review (which it is not since I got an email saying no...) so I clarified that I was calling for my case number and then he said that the supervisor is given up to 6 weeks for review.

?? So confused. It takes up to 6 weeks to generate an NVC case number when I am already in my 9th week ???

I feel like calling again later because it does not seem to make sense.

    Hi all,

NVC also received my case during Feb (16th) and I still have not received a welcome letter. When I email they just say "wait another 4 weeks then try again" and when I call they say that my case is a "new electronic" version and I need to call another number. When I call this number it is an automatic answer which just says "go on to our website to view information" then hangs up.

Any advice on what to do ? Also once you hear from NVC please update the forum and I will do the same.

Now at 13 months since originally filing with USCIS and still need to do the NVC part :/

    Cheers,

    Michael

Michael, call them. You are in your 8th week right now. If I got them to put in a request to a supervisor for my case number, you should be able to get that as well! Good luck :(

hmmm guess maybe but I hope that helps bump you! We are rec'd 4/5 and I guess it will be quite some time for the case number :(

That's my hope too. The agent put in a request to his supervisor so my case number is generated but even that he said might not be done in 2 days (was wishing to call back on friday...). It seems that they will do that when you've been waiting 8 weeks. Sigh.

This process is the most challenging thing I've ever done in my life... It feels like my patience and resilience will be beyond human after all of this lmao

Hi all - just wondering what the process has been like since your NOA2 (congrats btw!).

From the moment you receive your NOA2 - what can you start doing? Can you complete your DS-160 before you get your case number or do you have to wait for your case number? Should you being going to this website https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/ and paying the Visa Fee and completing the DS-261 Choice of Agent form right away?

Trying to be as proactive as possible to understand what needs to start getting put in motion right after the NOA2 on our end since we have to wait for awhile before the Consulates start contacting us. Ideally, would like to have everything ready to go so that we can send in everything required to get access to interview dates as soon as possible. The process just seems to be a bit confusing and I can't find a granular outline of what steps have to be taken/what can be done in advance. If anyone has dealt with the Canadian consulate, that is the consulate we will be dealing with as well. Thank you!

AFAIK nothing can be done before you get a case number, which is generated when they enter your full info in their system :/ You can start putting some of the things you MIGHT need right now, but things like police background check etc I think can't be done too early either... I could be wrong.

I feel like now you are over the 8 weeks you could email the expedite email address?

I did! I got a response this morning. It took them 2 days to get back to me, that's really quick. They didn't say we were denied, but that the US Consulate could not expedite our case and that NVC would continue working with me...

Is it their language for a standard denial? :/

They are super backed up at the moment, as you can see on the NVC filers topic. For pivot cases like Canada, it has been taking 8-10 weeks unfortunately. :(

Try calling again and asking for a supervisor.

I just did... I didn't have to ask for a supervisor, the agent put in a request right away. Seems like I will need to start calling regularly. :(

Would you mind explaining the concept of pivot cases? I had never heard this one before!

  11. As the beneficiary, are tax returns needed from me or simply my US citizen spouse?

I am asking as I, a Canadian currently living in Canada, had not earned enough last year to even file - I was a student (and was for many many years). My husband and I lived together the last 5 years going to school together, but he was earning a good wage and now has a great job (and moved back to the US for it) and there is no worry for the financial side of things. Just wondering if I need to file before the NVC tells me I need to send them tax documents :c

If anyone knows, I would very much appreciate the insight!
