So just to clarify, I know it is currently at the NVC. It'll take anywhere from 2-4 weeks to be processed there. Following that, it'll be sent to the embassy of her country, correct? They will in turn, contact her with an interview date. I know she has to go to a doctor to have a "check-up" type of appointment. Is that something we have to set up ourselves or is that something that the embassy will give her? Also, when will I need to fill out the DS-160? I am just trying to get a tentative timeline/guideline on what is left in the process and what is needed. Thanks everyone so far for the responses!

Once your case gets to the embassy you won't immediately get an interview date. First you have to complete the packet 3 documentation. Which you have to send a few things to the embassy, those things include: copies of passport, birth certificate (translated to english), kids birth certificate, former marriage / termination of former marriage, single status certificate, immigration records. They also need originals of the following: DS-2001 (print-out after completion), 2 passport style photos, confirmation print-out of completed global support strategy registration, evidence of financial support (I-864, most recent federal income tax), police records of the country they live in, police records of any country they have lived in for more than 12 months, court & prison records, and military records.

It's best to use the time the case is at the NVC to start preparing all the documentation for the packet 3. My wife was able to send in the packet 3 before she actually received the packet 3 paperwork in the mail. The packet 3/4 information that pertains to the country your fiance is coming from can usually be found on the US Embassy website for that country.

  2. Generally that's the status that you case gets after the local office has processed your biometrics. Next is to just wait be sure to check if your status lines up with your local office's timeline. Houston shows an average of 437 days. Would be easier to tell if you filled out your timeline information.

As for the interview date / time, my wife and I had our case status at Interview Scheduled for 2.5 weeks before we actually got the letter in the mail with the information.

  3. The only thing my wife had to gather for her medical exam records wise was an immunization history. Which she didn't have as they don't really keep track of that. So she went to the red cross medical hospital in Bangkok and was tested to see what she needed. She worked on getting the immunization shots at the red cross center as it was much cheaper than one of the embassy approved hospitals in Bangkok. Any that were missing were then administered at her medical exam.

Hi guys I have a question that one of you can help answer, so we are trying to get Social Security for my Husband he came here on a K1 visa and we went to our local SS office with his passport, I94 and our marriage certificate and they told us that because his status change because we got married it needs to change on the I94 as well and I printed out the I94 and it still says that my fiance came to the US on Fiance Visa and the lady told us that we need to go to the immigration office and have his status changed and then we can apply for his SS! I though a person can hold an SS on fiance visa, is anyone else having the same problem? and you guys please advice me on what to do!

We were able to get her SSN without any issues. The local office just stated that there is a large communications issue between the Social Security Administration and USCIS. So it took them a bit of time to determine her immigration status. We just used the passport, I-94, and marriage certificate; we brought extra copies of everything else too just incase though.

  5. Looks like I get to join the Sept. party too. Submitted the AoS packet on the 31st of August. Got a message this morning about the check being cashed. Luckily it seems the processing time in Raleigh, NC for the green card is faster than the EAD.

She's been keeping herself busy at the house while I'm at work, and she started her ESL classes yesterday. With the rapidly approaching hurricane looks like we'll both be house bound for a few days.
