I am witness that this process is long and exhausting mentally , but be assured that it will end soon ,, one of the main signs I looked at was the constant back to back updates ,, look for that ,, and advice to all ,, the embassy will contact you before your medical expires, but keep record of your expiration date also, know when it expires yourself,,, be prepared!! Blessings to everyone, keep your mind busy thru the process ,, with positive thoughts,, you will receive positive results! Once again,, updates are a good sign , that your case is moving forward!!

Ugh I'm sorry you guys are still waiting. I'm recalling our first conversations about a year ago ... I think you shouldn't be too far behind us. 
Are you making a trip over this winter? Good excuse to go to sunny Spain. That's what I did this summer, and we got the call just before I  went back to the US. That airport goodbye was one of the happiest ones since we knew it would be our last, inshallah! !
He will arrive in about a month after packing up and closing down our business.

Wanted to share some good news to help other see it through. to sum up my last few posts, my fiancee was contacted ~2 weeks ago to update her medical and criminal records. Asked for my updated taxes as well. She had everything turned back in to the consulate in Casablanca last Thursday.  Since then noticed a few changes on CEAC (first time it was updated in over a year!). Checked her case today, and it says issued! So now it's just the logistics of getting it through the courier they use to deliver. A little bonus is I had saved up so many miles from traveling back and forth, I'm treating her to a business class ticket to her new home   Sadly because of work I can't fly there to escort her home.
 
Total time in AP: 411 days -or- 1 year, 1 months and 16 days. 

This whole process sucks. It is literally nothing but a waiting game by the administration to force people to abandon their applications. It only took 2 weeks to actually process her visa. The extra 13 months the case is just sitting in a file.

How are you all doing? I just came here to tell you all to calm down and everything will be fine soon. I had gone through this process and all I did was exercised patience. I was on AP for 9 months. I have been in the US for 4 months now with my family. Don’t get panic or discouraged. No matter how long it takes you will get your Visas. I’m sending this message from New York.

I have a huge news to report too. On Oct 16 our case got touched on CEAC but I thought it was due to senator's inquiry. I had senators and congresspersons inquire over time with no avail. On 11/13, the case changed to expiring soon.  This morning, 11/14 it was back to AP.  I have an Indian co-worker whose husband's company relocated them to Canada due to uncertain immigration future and she was in the US this week. She asked if I heard anything about my hubby (she met him 5 years ago when he was in the US) and my answer was no.  5 minutes later I checked my email. There was an email from embassy...
The embassy's email starts with "Your visa is ready for issuance...."  and asks for updated forms and tax returns and medical.
 
We are IR-1 since submission Aug 6 2014!  I am US citizen for 35 years or so, being a legal child immigrant from Poland ages ago.  He received DS5535 in early Sept 2017 (his interview was late August). My husband is from Mali (native French speaker) and is a musician who traveled all over the world. The DS5535 went into volumes of additional pages.  It was tough trying to piece the travel history of concerts and tours and getting the correct English names for all countries to his native French.
 
We are working on getting all the updated forms ready and figuring out logistics of his travel to the embassy (1400 km one way) between my booked travel to Mali last 2 weeks of this year. Hopefully our visa journey is reaching its end and we'll finally be together again in the same house for the rest of our lives. I am so happy! I'd love to be able to fly to Mali, visit with our family (it's been a year since we went to Dubai in the summer) and just collect my husband and fly back home together. Fingers crossed. I am so happy today. For those still waiting. Never give up. One day when you are almost ready to give up hope, good news will come. We are not finished yet, but after 4+ long years this is the best news ever!!!

To answer the question — after interview , they only  made copy of passport, it was NOT KEPT BY EMBASSY!

Basically what I'm saying is that now with trump and ds5535, the wait/process time has more than tripled.

So at least they were working on the case after the questionnaire then most likely got hung up on something and/or waiting to hear back from another source.    
 
I thought i saw somewhere a spreadsheet is someone updating one?  I'm curious to see if type of visa, if petitioner is  US born, beneficiary m/f or PD makes any difference.   Have you seen any patterns?
 
I honestly would have been OK with going through this process last year but the fact that my case was returned to USCIS and reaffirmed and now they decide to add extra scrutiny is extremely frustrating.  

Yes, status changed to AP yesterday about 4 pm local time.
hopefully today we will have the holy "issued" status!

Hello, Shazyyo and @Sarac9  I would suggest considering @aqz17 experience and send an email to the Chief of immigration visa dep at the embassy you had your interview, explain the hardship you are facing due to the delay of being apart for more than 5 years, etc.... I believe at least they will send to the US asking for an update and this may move along the process and you may get positive feedback, don't just wait and being frustrated DO something. You have nothing to lose.
 
Thank you @SabrinaJerome you raised this question and Thank you @aqz17 for sharing your experience.  I have just recently tried the same approach, and it seems you are correct, monitoring any update during the forthcoming weeks if no update, then I will do it over again.  Good luck all.
 

Keep asking. I got some meaningful answer from the embassy after 4 different inquiries over the period of 5 months. The embassy is not likely to move at initial inquiry. I suppose senators are slightly more effective, espicially those who represent populated states.

Hi I must say that congressional inquiry is the only way we can count on. Some Senator's offices are really nice. Once the inquiry is made it sometimes have quite an effect, not decisive though.

My husband has similar story. He was born in Iran and has been living in Sweden for almost 15 years. His case is pending on AP since January. It's been almost 10 months. There were several updates in September but no news. I contacted the senator office too. They inquired about our case but nothing happened so far. 
He also had a pending visitor visa back in August 2016 with no update at all. 
I hope this difficult time ends for all of us soon. It's very frustrating
