Rodney1 got a reaction from RLA in SSN insists on EAD
Success! Today we went to a different Social Security office, and they said nothing about needing an EAD.  They took all the information, and said we would receive the Social Security card in the mail.

My subject line says "SSN and K-1" We have a K-1 visa. He is NOT ALLOWED to work. We MUST check 'Legal Alien Not Allowed to Work' . We do not have and will not have EAD.
    So I repeat: what doc?!

The Social Security Card application instructions (p. 3, Item 5) say, "If you check 'Legal Alien Not Allowed to Work' ... you must provide a document from a U.S. Federal, State, or local govt. agency that explains why you need a SSN..."
    What "document" do you suggest?
We want a SSN in order to get a California ID (from DMV) and marriage license. DMV  online info says "Evidence of your SSN is required on applications for an original ID card. The SSN is electronically verified with Social Security Administration while you are in the DMV office."
But this is on a webpage. Do I print that out? Do I go to DMV and ask for some document?

Thanks for correcting my misinformation. I see now that we should check the "Allowed to work" box. We will do that.
