We were married July 10th. Los Angeles County says it usually takes 6 to 8 weeks to receive official marriage certificate, and today, 4.5 weeks after marriage, we have not yet received it. The K1 visa entry was for 90 days, which expires tomorrow, Aug. 11th. AOS requires a copy of the official marriage certificate, so we can't file that yet. No one is likely to ask about immigration status, but it seems that we can't prove legal residence starting Aug. 12th until we receive the marriage certificate. Am I missing something?

On my "U.S. Immigration Timeline", there's a box for "Marriage", but it's not editable. Selecting "Edit / Add My Entry" brings up a page that does NOT include "Marriage" ! We were married yesterday. How do I fill in the "Marriage" date on my timeline?

I forgot to mention: It's been 17 days since entering the U.S., but the Social Security clerk could NOT pull up the immigration record to verify the passport and I-94 information. I think government staff cuts are slowing down everything!

The SSA woman agreed that a K-1 visa holder could get a SSN, but she insisted that we needed an EAD.
-
No, we are NOT yet married.
No, the I94 is NOT expired. Entered the U.S. just 16 days ago.

Everything I read here says a K-1 visa holder does NOT need an EAD to apply for a Social Security card. But we went to a SS office this morning, and the woman insisted that we needed an EAD! GRRR. I may try a different SS office tomorrow. But has anyone else faced this issue? (We want a SS number to get a California ID.)

Do we need a "certified translation" of my fiance's Mexican passport to get a California marriage license? Or are they OK with the passport as is?

My subject line says "SSN and K-1" We have a K-1 visa. He is NOT ALLOWED to work. We MUST check 'Legal Alien Not Allowed to Work' . We do not have and will not have EAD.
So I repeat: what doc?!

The Social Security Card application instructions (p. 3, Item 5) say, "If you check 'Legal Alien Not Allowed to Work' ... you must provide a document from a U.S. Federal, State, or local govt. agency that explains why you need a SSN..."
What "document" do you suggest?
We want a SSN in order to get a California ID (from DMV) and marriage license. DMV online info says "Evidence of your SSN is required on applications for an original ID card. The SSN is electronically verified with Social Security Administration while you are in the DMV office."
But this is on a webpage. Do I print that out? Do I go to DMV and ask for some document?

The medical exam was in December, but the TB tests were not complete until mid-February. The interview (assigned date) was April 4. The visa was delivered on May 7, with an expiration date of MAY 15, 2019!!! No one can tell me why. Ridiculous! But all we know is that we apparently have ONE WEEK to use it. GRRR.

Part of what's so stupid about this entire request is that they've seen both our passports at various points in this process, so why should they need anyone's birth certificate? We'll send both, but GRRR!

Isn't that confusing? I, too, think the petitioner is me, the U.S. citizen. But I, too, think they really want my fiance's Mexican birth certificate !!

At the conclusion of the fiance interview in Juarez, my Mexican fiance was handed one printed page in Spanish saying we need to supply additional documents.
Following the printed instructions on that page, I went to the website and eventually printed the courier pages that enable my fiance to send the docs (including his passport) to the Juarez consulate via DHL for free.
The first requested document is "Acta de nacimiento larga de peticionario"
Are they asking for my U.S. birth certificate or my fiance's Mexican birth certificate?
Thanks.

To Houssin Leslie: YES, after you receive the K1-FTP notice, there are definitely more steps you need to take. In my case:
About a week later, the US consulate sent my foreign partner a letter saying how to proceed. He never received that letter (the damn Mexican postal mail system), but, fortunately, the US consulate also sent me a copy of it, mailed from the U.S.! The letter said what website to go to next for my fiance to fill out the form DS-160, the lengthy online visa application. After that, I had to pay a new fee, and with that receipt, I was then able to schedule several remaining steps: an appointment at the Applicant Service Center for photo and fingerprint, an appointment at one of the approved medical clinics for a medical and vaccination exam, and the appointment at the consulate for the final interview.

sorry, but what is ASC
The Applicant Service Center, where the foreign party goes for photos and fingerprints shortly before the interview.

Does the Juarez, Mexico consulate (CDJ) typically allow the US citizen to attend the interview?
-
After photos submitted early in the application process AND photos taken at the ASC, does the foreign partner need to take new ADDITIONAL photos to the interview?

At Juarex, are the interviews in English or Spanish or both? Must the answers be in English?
-
Thanks, all, for the answers. I'm disappointed, but at least I know what to expect.

Are K-1 Visa interviews in Mexico always in Ciudad Juarez? Never in any other consulate or in the D.F. embassy? On my visa application, I wrote that we would do the interview at the consulate in Merida, Yucatan. But now the NVC has sent everything to Juarez, and I read elsewhere that Juarez handles these. Merida or even D.F. would be more convenient for us, so that is why I am asking here.
RFIE - birth certificate - maybe translation
in Adjustment of Status Case Filing and Progress Reports

add final question
I have received a REQUEST FOR INITIAL EVIDENCE for my AOS application for a birth certificate. I did include a copy of the birth certificate with the application, but without translation. Is that what the RFIE is about? (If so, I wish they would just say that!!) As far as I can tell, the birth certificate (Mexico) meets the requirements (state govt. civil registry doc, with seal, signature, bar codes, registration numbers, and names of both parents). I don't know if this is a "long-form" birth certificate or not - it is one 8.5-by-11 inch page. So, if you are missing a translation, is this the kind of RFIE they send?
