Question about documents: My fiancé's police certificate is the equivalent of the uttømmende politiattest, just that it is entirely in English (as he requested). Is it necessary to provide the Norwegian version too? I know the English translation is required, but what about the Norwegian version? I'm thinking not, but I don't know how pedantic to be about it!

There is a specific Police Certificate for USA Visas. you can find it through Politiet.no
Mine was all in English and I received it digitally. I never received a Norwegian copy, and the embassy excepted it without any problems.

  2. For anyone in the same situation in the future.
I called the USCIS today. Talked to tier 1 and tier 2. Neither admitted that the US has made a mistake. But they did admitted that I had used the correct form and was not supposed to submit a filling fee. So I can only conclude that somebody messed up and did not notice that I filled the I-485 at the same time.
They told me to resubmit and include an explanation, all the documents I send the first time and the I-797C for the I-485 and I-765

  3. I received my NOA1 for my I-131 and I-485 yesterday. But I  am having problems with my I-765.

I submitted the I-765 together with my I-485 and was under the impression that I did not have to pay a separate filling fee since I submitted the forms together. The I-797C that I received for my I-765 says that "The payment amount is incorrect of has not been provided"
The I-797C also says  "The application was filed on an outdated version of this form." I have double checked https://www.uscis.gov/i-765 And I send them the most current version of the I-765(07/17/17).

    I used eligibility category C09

I don't understand what I submitted wrong, so I don't know how to fix it. Does anyone else know what to do?

Old passport too? When I renewed my passport last year at Politiet, they took my old passport so I do not have that. Would that be an issue? "list every time you have (ever) entered the USA, and the number of days you stayed", is there a way to look that up? I've been back and forth since 2007 for high school, college and now to visit my fiancé. I don't think I have any old boarding passes or anything in my email back from 2007 and 2008.

You don't need to bring old passports, it is just a good idea to do so if you have them. I have never heard of anyone being asked for old passports though, so don't worry about that.

Yes the DS-160 wants to know every time you have ever enter the USA, and the number of days you have stayed. You can look up your travel history from the last five years through the I-94 record, so that should help some. For the rest just do your best.

Have you gotten your social security card yet? If you have (or if you havent) you take your marriage certificate in there and they will change it.

hi there, when you apply for AOS, fill it out with the new name and that is how you do the official name change.  I came on a K1 visa too and this is how i did it. when i filled out my AOS/EAD/AP application forms, i filled it out with my new married name, and included a copy of marriage certificate (among other things) as proof of name change. side note, the forms ask you to list all your previous names, so i listed my maiden name there too.

the NOAs for my AOS/EAD/AP came with my married name already. so from the day I received those, I have been writing / using / signing using my married name.

    hope this helps you.

But my marriage certificate has my maiden name on it. As I was not allowed to change my name when we got it.

  6. Does anyone know the best way to change your name after getting married on a K1 visa
My fiance and I got married in Vegas recently. When we got our marriage licence we were tolled that I could not change my name with them that day, but that I would have to do it in Washington State were we live.
But I am confuse as to how I can change my name in Washington State. We have not filled for AOS yet, so I am not technically a resident in Washington State yet. I know how I can change my name in Norway, but if I do that than my passport would no longer be valid, and that is my only legally id in the USA, so that seems like a bad way to go about it.

Anyone have any experience with this?
Is it difficult to receive a new green card, with a updated name, if I wait to change my name later?

Can anyone tell me the next steps after your k1 is approved and issued? What forms are next once my fiance arrives in US?

After you are married you fill a Adjustment of Status. For that you need form I-485 Adjustment of Status, and I-864 Affidavit of Support. Optional forms you can fill for free at the same time are I-131 Advance Parole(allows you to travel outside the US earlier) and I-765 Employment Authorization (allows you to start working earlier).

Issued means that the Embassy has printed the Visa and it is ready for pickup by the mail service. The CEAC website doesn't update beyond that. If you had to use ustraveldocs.com for Norway like my fiance did for Nepal that website is actually better for tracking the Visa/Passport. We were able to track based on her passport number where it was and that told us when it was available for pickup before she got any message to come pick it up (Nepal does everything through the main bank in the country).

Thank you for the information. I will start checking ustraveldocs.com ones the CEAC says issued

Hi :) This would be embassy specific. So if that's what they are telling you I would assume they will send it within two working days, maybe you could call them?. Its funny because I'm Norwegian too but don't know much about the US embassy in Norway as I went through London.

Thanks for the Input  Actually K1 visas go through the US embassy in Stockholm. Calling them is also completely useless, as the person you call does not actually work at the Embassy, and can't provide any more information. E-mail is the best way to contact them, but they are selective in what questions they bother to answer over e-mail.

    50 minutes ago, CopperChem said:

It always goes to Administrative Processing right before it switches to Issued. Odd that it took them so long after the interview to go through that though. When CEAC switches to Issued then you should expect delivery of the Visa in that two day window provided they mail them back to you in Norway.

Yes the passport has to be mailed from Stockholm Sweden to me in Norway. Probably will take more than 2 days, as I have been tolled by the embassy that they use regular  mail services, and it is the week before Christmas. Literally the  slowest week of the year for mail to be send in Norway <_<
Does issues mean that the passport has left the embassy? Or does it mean that the passport is ready to be picked up by the mail service at the embassy.

  10. Had my embassy interview Nov, 29th and got approved that day. Was tolled my passport would be mailed whiting 10 days, that did not happen.
Today the CEAC finally changed from Ready for interview, to Administrative Processing. It also says "If your visa application is approved, it will be processed and mailed/available within two business days." Anyone know if that information is reliable, will they actually mail it within 2 days???

  12. I am in the same situation. 14 days since interview. CEAC website still says ready for interview, and passport tracking says passport number not valid.
I talked to the Stockholm embassy through e-mail(seems to be the only way to get any information). They tolled me that my passport is in the final processing stage and that I should not worry about the CEAC tracker saying ready.

So I can't really answer your question, but I hope you feel better knowing your not alone.

What Embassy is your petition being handled by?

  13. I had my K1 embassy interview November 29th at the Stockholm embassy. The Interview was really quick and easy and we were approved. (they had received my medical in time and tolled me that they had all the documents that they needed) .I was told they would mail the passport within 10 days. (on VJ it looks like most people receive there passport withing 5-10 days from the Stockholm embassy)
It has now been 13 days
The CEAC tracker has been updated several times since the interview, but still says it is "ready" for the interview.
The phone tracking of my passport  through the embassy does not work. Both my passport number and UID get a "number not valid" response.
I tried talking to a embassy representative on the phone, but they sounded like they had no information about the situation, and tolled me that the embassy was allowed 60 days to process my case.(sounded like a standard answer)
I have also e-mailed the embassy, they only tolled me that my passport is still being processed at the embassy(as of December 12) and ignored the rest of my questions.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Is there anything me or my fiance can do to make the process go faster at this point?

I am wondering if anyone here had a visa prior to filing for K1. I am asking because the difference with my case is that my fiance had a J1 visa (under an au pair program)  while here in the US, so i suspect that having a prior visa will eliminate petition going to NVC. Anyone have information about this or have a similar case?

I have had a previous J1 and F1. The petition is still send to the NVC and goes through the normal NVC process.

God förmiddag :) My fiancé and I are currently awaiting our NoA2. It will probably be a while since we're September filers, but due to an upcoming busy season for me at work, I made an action plan just to know what to be prepared for. Any input you may have would be greatly appreciated. For those of you who have been through the process - was there anything in the DS-160 or the I-134 that took longer than expected? I would like to deal with that now rather than when working 80 hour weeks.

    1. When NoA2 is received

Check when the next medical appointment + X-ray is available (visumintyg@sibyllekliniken.com

Start to collect documents listed below in 6.1-2

    2. Two-three weeks after NoA2 (or more )

Call NVC at (603)-334-0700 to get case number

    3. After receiving case number

Check ceac status at https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx, - when status is "Ready", submit DS-160 at https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/

Book medical. The medical should ideally be about 14 days before embassy interview

Book embassy interview at http://www.ustraveldocs.com/se/, pay fee $265

    4. Few days to a week after “case ready”

Receive checklist from embassy (petitioner will receive this)

    5. Medical Appointment - What to bring

Vaccination records (minimum requirement is that they show MMR, DT(aP), flu shot)

    Passport

    Separate passport photo

    Pay fee $520/4350 SEK

Ask for copy of vaccination records DS-3025 needed later on for AoS

6.1 Embassy Interview - What to have ready from petitioner

    I-134 Affidavit of Support

Statement from the bank (date account opened, total amount deposited the last year, present balance)

Statement from employer (date+nature of employment, salary paid, whether temporary/permanent)

    Two pay stubs

    Two tax returns (W2)

    Updated letter of intent

6.2 Embassy Interview - What to have ready from beneficiary

Passport valid 6+ months after issuance of visa

    Old passport

Birth certificate/extract of the population register, including family. Must contain DOB, POB, names of both parents, in English (120)

    Police certificate/utdrag belastningsregistret utland

2 identical color photographs, 2 inches square (50mm), full face, centered in frame

Evidence that we have met and valid relationship. Letters, written correspondence, phone records, photos, screenshots

Proof of registration of address (UID confirmation number, received when scheduling interview), print out and bring

the DS-160 has some questions that potential are time consuming to find the answers too. But it only askes for information about the"beneficiary".
-list ever country you have visited in the last 5 years
    - list every time you have (ever) entered the USA, and the number of days you stayed
    - list every secondary of higher educational institution I have attended, and when you have attended it.
    - they also want your work history, but I think it only wants the last 5 years.

     3 and 4
The US embassy in Sweden's webpage states that you may not book your embassy interview before receiving packet 3(embassy checklist).
But you can make your account with the embassy before receiving packet 3, enter all the personal info(like e-mail) and pay the appointment fee. I did this, and therefore I as the "beneficiary" also received a copy of packet 3 directly to my e-mail.

I received a full copy of the medical paperwork at the embassy interview including the DS-3025.

     6.1
    List of stocks and bonds

The embassy wants "recent" dates on the the letter of intent to marry and your I-134(and relay anything your fiance brings to the interview)So if you send them to your fiance to early he/she might be asked about getting a new copy at the embassy interview.

     6.2
you also need the DS-160 confirmation

  17. From what I see on VJ, it looks like the CEAC tracker could say a variety of things after the interview, and regardless of what it says, it is no reason for concern. As long as the embassy tolled you that you were approved, and did not ask for any more documents or are still waiting or your medical results, you should have your visa soon :D
My interview was November 29th and my CEAC tracker still says that the embassy is ready for my interview, even though it says that they last time they updated my case was yesterday.

So I have my embassy interview soon and I noticed that the embassy instruckens say that the birth certificate "must state the date and place of birth of both parents".
I have gotten copies of all 3 versions that exsist of a Norwegian birth certificat, and the only information they have about my parents are there names.

Has anyone had a problem with using the Norwegian "flerspråklig fødselsattest" ?
Is there anyway to get a Norwegian birth certification with place and date of parents birth on it?

My visa was approved yesterday :D
So for future reference for any Norwegians reading this. The Embassy just want the "flerspråklig fødselsattest"

  19. The reason Vermont appears to be faster is because there have only been 3 NOA 2 at Vermont registered on VJ from 2017.
There timelines are 87 days, 91 days and 361 days. I guess VJ is ignoring the 361 as an outlier, and averaging the other two timelines that are from earlier in the year, when the average from California was also shorter.

You can easily see all Vermont VJ timelines through Igors list.

I would email and print the firm and go to your interview. If worse comes to worse they can always approve you and give you AP until they receive the original if they are that particular about it.

There are some services you can mail internationally within a week or so. Hopefully it won't take that long.

it may cost a lot but if you send via FEDEX or DHL you should receive the paperwork in within 1-2 days.

Thank you both for your suggestions :)
I think that supervision put in a request to have my e-mail answers quickly, because I got an answer from the embassy withing a few hours, and they tolled me a scanned, e-mail copy is fine due to the circumstances. I also though it would be possible to get delivery withing a few days, but we did the research. FedEx and UPS don't deliver to were I live. And DHL's quickest delivery option for my town in Norway is after my interview date.(I guess that is what I get for not living in a big city)

  21. Hey, my K1- interview is in one week.

I was reviewing the documents I am bringing to the embassy and noticed a mistake in the I-134 form. (we forgot to fill out the additional information section)
There is no mailing option that allows my fiance to resend the form to me in time for the interview.

Has anyone else handed in a e-mailed copy of the I-134 form? If he e-mails it to me it will be printed on a A4 type paper so it will be obvious that it is e-mailed.

I have tried finding a printing company in both Norway and Stockholm that print on US sized paper, but have not found any.

I have tried calling the embassy 5 times to ask if a e-mailed I-134 form is acceptable  but for some reason all of the employees I spoke to seem to have absolutely no inside into how the K1 proses works. One of them tried explainint to me how the I-129f works. Another said I needed to e-mail the Embassy in Oslo, even though the embassy in Oslo does not do K1 visas.
I finally got one of them to ask there supervisor, but that was not helpful at all. As the supervisors reply was that I need to wait for the Stockholm embassy to e-mail me back.

I have e-mailed the embassy in Stockholm, but they normally take 3 days to replay, so by that estimate I will not have an answer before Monday, and by that time it will definitely be to late to do anything about the situation.

I would appreciate any advice of inside, on what to do.

  22. So I have my embassy interview soon and I noticed that the embassy instruckens say that the birth certificate "must state the date and place of birth of both parents".
