My hubby naturalized in 2011 and he had to bring all his green cards, current and expired ones, they took it at the oath ceremony, so I recommend you to bring both of them

Based on what I read on various forums it is a good idea to keep the 2 year old one even though they suggest to "bring all the documents USCIS has issued in the past" because according to them you would not need them since you become an American. In my humble opinion, given that the US keeps deporting its own citizens (https://news.vice.com/article/the-us-keeps-mistakenly-deporting-its-own-citizens) , I feel any naturalized citizen should safeguard and preserve any documents that they received and that prove they have been through the naturalization process. I did surrender my 10 year old card but nothing else.

Joao aguiar nato reacted to Jay Du in N-400 Retired more than 20 years in a foreign country
    Hi All,

My parents have been LPRs since Nov 23, 2002. They have been retired for more than 20 years and they retired in China before they came to US on Nov 23, 2002. They have never worked in US after they came to US. They have not filed any Tax returns and I have been declaring them as my dependents in my tax returns.

Now, I am going to file N-400 for them and I have the following questions.

    1. In "Part 8. Information About Your Employment and Schools You Attended", In Question 1, I plan to enter "retired" under "Employer or School Name" and fill in the address and name of the employer in China, and the date of the retirement date in the column of "Date From (mm/dd/yyyy)". And select the corresponding "Your Occupation" from the drop down list box. Would this be good enough or should I fill it in a different way?
    2. As for the tax returns, should I attach a note to explain why they don't have any tax filing to the application or should I wait until the interview time to explain if asked for?

    Thanks in advance.

    Jay

Make sure you try the poutine when you visit!  It looks like garbage on a plate, but it's really really good....

I just put in my online application on the 14th so I'm keeping my fingers crossed all the way
    Congrats to you too!

You don't have to file anything with USCIS after becoming a citizen.

However, it's a good idea to keep all that stuff because you may need to refer back to things later on down the road if you decide to ever sponsor someone.

When I become a citizen, I plan on later on filing the form with them to request the return of all of my original documents submitted to them over the past decade or so.

First of all,,,congrats on passing your interview!!

Some oath ceremonies have a table set up for people to apply for passports right after the ceremony, I've heard.  Some places also have a SS table for people to change their status too, I've heard.
I'd bring photos just incase they do.  If they don't offer that service, you can still use the passport photos elsewhere to apply so it's not a waste of money.

Personally, I plan on NOT going through USCIS to submit my passport application---only because I'd rather do it at a USPS passport agency after because, well frankly, I'd like to cut my ties with USCIS altogether after dealing with them for so long, and seeing them mess up so many times with other things.  Plus, I want to photocopy my naturalization certificate first before just sending the original document away mere minutes after I've worked so hard and long to receive it.

Yes, you can apply as soon as you have the certificate.   You may want to do this separately though so you have time to make a photocopy of the certificate for yourself, as you will be sending in the original with the passport application.  I am doing this.  Besides, most oath ceremonies don't have someone there doing all the processing and mailing for you.

It is advisable to do this immediately, as the Social Security Administration advises at least a 10 day wait before notifying them of your new status and most state DMVs (who verify through the SSA) advise at least 24 hours after notifying the SSA before notifying them.  So you might as well do the passport first.

You can also register to vote right away, but I'll probably do this when I finally do go to the DMV later.  I want the Oath Ceremony day to be fun and stress free.

I found the interview to be very straight forward, friendly, and easy. I had documents that were listed on the letter to bring the originals to the interview. I offered my folder saying it contained the the requested documents and the lady said, "Nah, I don't need to see those".  Then she went through the application line by line...your name is....you live at...etc, etc.  At one point I said "I wasn't sure if I answered that question correctly" and explained. She made some notes and moved on. That's how I know you can amend anything at the interview. It was about a traffic ticket I had received and hadn't listed, but wanted to make sure that was correct.

    Hi Rodrigo,

There are no green cards being obtained from this marriage. I already have my 10 year GC and my partner is a USC and has lived here his whole life. There should be no questions of fake marriage.

Typically they don't mail the oath ceremony notice until a few weeks before the scheduled oath ceremony.

The oath in-line status you currently have commonly occurs a few days after interview approval.  But as some field offices have a ceremony every month while others only have one twice a year, some have to wait longer for the info on their scheduled oath date since field offices typically send such info 10-20 days before the oath ceremony date.

Congratulations on being approved!  You're almost there!  Hold on!  Boston do a fair few ceremonies, so I don't think you'll have long to wait.  You can look up the list online, it's a couple a month, with various different venues, so logistically it's a lot to manage.  Be patient!
