Question for those who may know more than me: When they do name checks, are they just interested in the individual who is adjusting status, themselves... or also family members?
In my case, my husband has a fairly rare combination of names, so much so that it gets about 3 hits on google, and they are all a dutch PHD person. But his father, on the other hand... he is a fairly famous businessman and world traveler and is on the U.S. watch list because he's been to Iraq, Iran, and a number of other middle eastern countries. Do you think the relationship father->son would effect the time spent in name checks?

Anyways, hubbie got to school okay and is in class now. I feel better knowing he got there okay and such.
Hey Arazia- my AOS was touched the business day after it said it was transfered. I think it's normal!
Also, I looked at other CSC transferee timelines, and the 'pending' e-mail can come anywhere between 15 - 30 days after the date that they transfer you. Some don't get an e-mail at all, but I've noticed that most of the April/May transfers are getting prompt pending e-mails!

We have two cats, both indoor for a couple of reasons.
A.) The shelter we got the first cat at made you sign a contract prior to adoption agreeing not to de-claw the cat or to have it as an 'outdoor' cat. The rescue we got the second cat from had a similar contract.
B.) I live in a semi-urban area, where it would be dangerous for cats running around. We have a few strays that live in the area, and I constantly fear for their safety.
On the other paw, we have tried both cats out on a halter-leash system and allowed them to go out for 'walks'. The first cat, my big black lazy butthead freezes and freaks out if brought outside. My bengal cat loves it though. She'll sit outside with us, with the leash and halter on while we do our gardening.

Also, what is that thing on the update list where it says "transfer" what does that mean? I am very curious.
That is the column for the date an application was transferred to CSC (California Service Center). Generally, cases transferred there get approved without an interview, although from looking at timelines, it seems to take a bit longer at CSC than it does if you go through the interview process. There is also a CSC transfers thread for all the people who got their cases transferred.

Today is the husband's first day at college. He has just one afternoon class. After making a spectacular crash on his bike and ending up all hurt last month when we first got the bike... I'm obviously a little nervous about him getting there and back on the thing. Oh well, fingers crossed.

People who got W2 + 1099 RFE - did you initially send tax returns or tax transcripts?
I sent tax returns, but I think my problem was that I forgot my 1099-INTs for my bank accounts and my certificates of deposit.

NOA1 recieved today dated 6/4/07!!! wah HOOOO! Not sure where we belong, we mailed in May, NOA in June who wants us?
mailed my AOS may 26, and got my NOA recently dated June 1. am i a June filer too?
If your NOA1 date is in June, then you're a June filer. That's the easiest way to determine the cut-offs. Good luck to you all!

@Steve-n-Ana: Sorry to year you're a June filer instead of a May. It seems like the cut-off receive day was the 25th. Good luck to you!
@ali1978: I would need more information from you to add you to the list. What day did USCIS receive your EAD application? Have you gotten an NOA1 notice or a biometrics appointment?
In general, I removed anyone who I haven't heard back from with dates, or anyone who sent their application after the 25th. If for some reason their NOA1 dates still put them in May, I'll be glad to re-add them.

I was just in the BMV (what Ohio calls the DMV) and they had signs up saying that any males under 26 (or 'between 18 and 26' or whatever it is) applying for a licence or state ID, etc etc etc, would automatically be registered - so that's another way it could happen. But I agree, definitely best to make sure!
Ahh, we did get a State ID for my husband as well, so maybe it came through there instead. I just remember something on the AOS saying that they will contact selective services so that you can register or something like that. It's in the instructions but I forget the exact wording.

If you have moved to the USA and going through the green card process make sure you register for selective service. When I moved across a couple of years ago I remembered reading on a form that I was automatically entered into selective service. So I did not do anything. This is not the case. If you are under 26 years old, you have to go register. www.sss.gov has the info or go to a local post office.
If you don't do this, you will be unable to apply for US citizenship. Fortuanately I was looking through the citizenship forms a few weeks before my 26th birthday and noticed. So I managed to mail in a form and get registered just in time. In fact it was processed on my 26th birthday. So I got the confirmation number and was on selective service for less than a day. As you are removed the day after your 26th birthday.
It is nothing to worry about as no one on selective service has been called up since Vietnam.
Actually, my husband was automatically registered through his AOS. I don't know if this is common for other people, but he just received his conformation today, and I verified it by checking the sss.gov website. Of course, if you don't get the confirmation, you should certainly make sure you register on your own.
I also don't believe you are removed from selective service when you turn 26. You just cannot register after you turn 26. Selective service is used to determine if you are eligible for federal loans, certain government jobs, and other such things.

When I first started dating, my first boyfriend had no wanting of having children, ever. Amusingly enough, after a few years of dating, he said that I was the only one he'd ever consider having kids with. Even after we broke up, he still said the same thing. Years later, he made the choice to remove himself from the reproductive cycle, and I think it was a great idea. This man, even at the age of thirty when I last saw him, was not capable of being a father. Some people just are not meant to be parents. He and his current girlfriend want no kids, and more power to them.
On the other hand, I would like to have at least one child of my own. I'm not sure it will be possible due to some physical issues, though. My husband and I discussed that if we aren't able to have our own kids, we would willingly adopt. I have a neice who was adopted and taken from a bad situation and is a loving part of our family. But I'll admit that we are selfish. We don't want kids right now, although maybe in the future when our lives are more 'settled' it would be a possibility. It's a matter of personal choice. Besides, if people want a way to carry on their genetics without being involved in the child's life to a great extent, they can always donate eggs/sperm.

Nothing new really from us, although hubbie starts school on Monday. We had a bit of a panic because hubbie and I signed up for a convention together and I got a confirmation postcard and he didn't. His got returned as 'undeliverable'. We got an e-mail from the convention staff about it. We've never had problems with anyone receiving mail at the house before, and the address was correct. So, knowing that people have had issues with things like this, we put our names on the mailbox just incase.
It's just weird because it hasn't happened before. He's gotten mail from his bank in the Netherlands, three mails from USCIS, and from relatives out of the country, so it's just odd. In either case, better safe than sorry... and there's the small worry that this might have effected a notice sent or something, but there's no way of knowing so I'm not going to overreact about it.
