We talked just about every day on Skype and spent additional time talking over IMs and such. We'd always make sure we talked about our plans for the next time we met. What we wanted to do, how much we wanted to see each other. It was hard, damn hard at times to get through when the biggest thing you want is a hug from someone thousands of miles away. I'm just thankful that time is over...

I was going to say that Permanent residents are able to vote in some local elections. The USCIS website states this. But it seems as if this has less to do with voting in a local election and more to do with registering to vote.

There's really no way of knowing what distinguishes one case from another when it comes to transfering. I stopped trying to figure it out a long time ago.

Well, what I've found from involvement in autism communities over the years (at least up to a certain point) is that a -lot- of people are self-diagnosing. I believe someone on a group I was in did a poll on how many had an official diagnosis and it was about half/half between official and self-diagnosis.

Additionally, I wonder how much of the boon in numbers is adults. I know quite a few people who were diagnosed as adults, and not as children. My ex's mother tried to get him diagnosed as a child, but because he wasn't 'low-functioning' they wouldn't diagnose him as having autism. I think the fact that it is now seen as a 'spectrum' disorder with Aspergers/High functioning autism at one end and the low-functioning people at the other end also opens this up for more people being diagnosed.

There has been some rumors about various things causing the increase, but most of them have been disproven. A lot of things seem to come down to genetics. But... this is just my opinion... I don't think having a child who has aspergers is a -bad- thing. My husband has it and he's a wonderful person. He isn't deficient in any way. He's smart, funny, and has every opportunity for a great life, just like any normal person.

I feel somewhat bad when people start saying 'autism stole my child' or 'cure autism now' because... I know so many great people with the condition and I wouldn't want any of them not to be a part of my life. Anyways, I know I'm a bit too close to this discussion.

ok I am wondering....what flags you to be either interviewed or sent to CSC without an interview?? I don't get it... I have been trying to find other people that are being interviewed but most of the people have been going to CSC then approved without an interview... ?????

I've heard all sorts of things when it comes to this. I've heard that a lot depends on the area you live in, and which local office your case would be handled by. I've heard that if your local office is backlogged you are more likely to get transferred. I've also heard that K-1s are more likely to be transferred. I really don't know and haven't a clue. We'll probably never know what separates one application from another. They sure aren't going to tell us.

Just reposting. I was basing the 'number of days' on the NOA1 date to approval, so the dates are a little different than those posted earlier. No worries folks, I'm still around and doing updates. I just don't check in until later in the day, usually.

No worries here I just wanted to help but thats what I thought I counted , from NOA1 to approval, but it was late and I had hubby whinning for me to get off the computer, so I think I need to learn to count again And I like your days better cause it looks faster

I think you did yours based on the 'received at lockbox' date, while I did mine based on the NOA1 date. The only reason I did NOA1 date is that sometimes there's a bit discrepency between when it arrives at the lockbox and when they are actually issued an NOA1, and the NOA1 is supposed to be representative of when they start processing the application.

My husband has Asperger's Syndrome (diagnosed) and he is one of the most loving people in the world to me. On the other hand, his parents have said he doesn't care about anyone. It's a stark contrast, but sometimes those on the autistic-spectrum feel far more comfortable expressing emotions with certain people as opposed to others.

My ex also had Asperger's and through him I was able to meet some of the autistic people in the Milwaukee area. Most of them were professionals who had real jobs and were quite successful in life. Out of a group of ten people, only one could not function on his own. They even have an annual convention caued Autreat which encourages support of people with spectrum disorders.

I didn't change my name after our marriage. My husband actually wanted to change his name to mine, but it requires standard name-change proceedure here in Illinois, it isn't something that happens automatically like it does with women. psh. We're going to wait it out and try to change his last name when he naturalizes.

Oh, and I didn't change mine because my husband didn't want me to have his last name. He doesn't even want his last name.

Yes.

When we first got into a relationship, my husband and I made a mutual agreement for him to finish his schooling of fin the Netherlands (which would have been another three years or so). After meeting each other, and spending almost a year talking on the phone and making visits between countries, we knew we couldn't go through this separation any longer. It was killing the both of us every time we had to say goodbye at an airport. So, we got married quite a bit earlier than intended, and my husband is starting his schooling over here in the United States. He's about two years behind most normal college students, but on the positive side, a degree from an American college would be more acceptable here.

My husband and I really don't fall under categories when it comes to religion. He'll often call himself 'athiest' and I call myself 'agnostic', but that's mostly because it's easier than trying to explain things to people. We've discussed religion, and our own beliefs, and we both enjoy learning about new religions and seeing how other people view things. We both have similar beliefs, but they aren't exactly the same. For the most part, we're non-religious, as in we don't attend any ceremonies or anything of a religious nature unless it's for a relative.

Yes, you can adjust status without an interview.

My husband and I never attended an interview, and we got his greencard not that long ago.

Usually cases that can be approved without an interview are transferred to CSC (California Service Center). There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to who gets transferred and who doesn't, but I've heard that if you are from an area that has a longer backlog, you are more likely to be transferred. For instance, cities like Orlando, Chicago, etc with high numbers of people immigrating. Of course, that doesn't mean -all- cases there get transferred. K-1 visa adjustments seem to get transferred more often, from what I've seen.
