So after two months of stressing over the paperwork, my husband and I finally sent our package last Friday.  We are in LA and the post office worker said the package would be delivered by this Monday.  Well, this has NOT happened at all.  The tracking has been stuck "in transit to destination" in Chicago for this entire week.  Even though I've called USPS and made an inquiry email, I haven't received any real help or answers.  I'm simultaneously angry and trying to be patient.  Anyways, this is just a warning to everyone who's about to send their packages out.  I suggest using FedEx or UPS because unfortunately USPS is too unreliable to trust with such important documents.

I used USPS priority mail to send a package to Ghana Africa. I was surprised it actually got there in 5 days. Its a hit or miss with USPS

I want to thank all of you here on VJ for all the great advice and encouragement over these past few years.  My husband's IR1 visa was approved today, thank God very much.  Luckily, he was asked only a few basic questions.  The officer had taken all of his evidence, looked it over, then called him to the window.  There he was just asked if his case was a reaffirmed one, how many children he has and if his child will immigrate with him.  That was it.  The embassy personnel then gave him the long awaited blue slip of paper instructing him to pick up his visa in 2 weeks. It has been such a long and stressful journey and I wanted to share our success to give others hope.

Congratulations for being so strong! The light at the end of the tunnel has arrived :)

    Best wishes for the interview.
I advise you to be on the premises for the interview and have him tell the CO that you are waiting outside.
You won't be allowed inside but at least they know you got another visit in, especially if you only had one or two short visits.
Hopefully you front loaded your petition with quality relationship evidence and he is bringing more ongoing evidence with him
    to the interview.
Ghana is tough, hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

    Thank you !!

  4. My fiance and i are almost to the finish line! He got his medicals back in 6 days and our interview is in 20 days from today. We are so excited , nervous but hopeful. The waiting was the hardest most stressful part, but we are so greatful to have come so far! Prayers needed ! Thank you

How long it will take to get through customs will depend on the airport and how busy they are. My husband flew into Salt Lake City, UT and did customs here. It wasn't very busy, but it still took him about an hour and a half. Since he was the only one on his flight immigrating to the US they had him come through last.

He was asked to provide the agent with unopened packet her received at DHL, along with his xRay from the hospital and his passport. They also asked him why he came to Utah. That was it. Pretty simple

I thought you only needed the unopen packet. You have to provide the medical xray to  is that inside the unopen packet ?

Maybe if you could give a bit of insight about his/your case so we can maybe look at it from "an interviewer's eyes" to give you a better idea?

You don't have to...but if there's something bothering you about what might be brought up that prompted you asking this question...we here might be able to help you a bit more with some background?

Generally, it could be a lot of things---huge age differences, vastly different religious backgrounds, how long you knew each other before getting engaged, etc.

I'm 23 he's 28 never married no kids both good jobs good income no previous marriage or K1 petition we met on social media but I'm good friends with his cousin who attends my church. but I had only known him for about 4 months before going over there then we for engaged the first trip but we talked about it before the trip. I guess when you know you know, 😊 the petetion wasn't filed until 5 months after the engagement because we wanted to be sure and  then I took a second long trip over there. We've only been together for a year now. I'm just afraid they will say we got engaged to fast and that's been bothering me a lot. I see lots of people denied for that

Resend everything through DHL. You won't get that mail. I sent financial information to my then fiance in 2015 and has still not received it.

Never send important documents through USPS. USPS has no authority there so they hand over the mails to the local post and they do whatever they want with it.

My fiance went to the central post office where it showed that the mail was but could find it even at the point of willing to bribe someone it wasnt found. The sad truth is that, some of the employees open the mails and to look for money then trash your mail. that's the unfortunate situation there.

Some times that doesn't even help. because it will show that your mail has been opened and they will be in trouble so they throw it away.

It got their in 5 days we Thank God!

  8. Hello I mailed the required documents to my fiance for his interview with the embassy and they were sent via USPS. I did priority shipping and it reached Ghana within 5 days but they updated a status today that says  -Missed delivery - Scheduled for another delivery attempt today,
GHANA.- Has anyone who's mailed things international or to Ghana seen this before and knows what it means ? The package is auppose to go to a PO box in the town he lives in.

Pay the fee first. On the recepit will be a recepit number. You need that to fill out the DS160 which is part of the visa process. Fill out DS160 then schedule interview appt because you will need ds160 confirmation to schedule interview. Then go to medical. You will get a confimation of Ds160 and interview once you fill them both out. Then take those to medical. Medical can take anywhere from a week to 4 weeks to get back so make sure you schedule your appt out far enough for that. Same with police report, it can take awhile to get back.

Can we just schedule the interview after we get the medical and police report back?

So pay the fee first at GT bank then go for the medical when should you do the DS-160 before or after the medical? And is the DS-160 the same thing as applying for the visa ? Because you have to apply for the visa online to right ?

You can just walk in but you have to have your proof of appt at the embassy first before they will see you.

Hello all I just wanted to share my good news that my fiance has been approved. We started the process at the end of October. I will say that we received our NoA1 fast but part 2 was at least 3 months. And evwen then I had to call the NVC to find out our status and case number. About a few weeks and we received the hard copy. In March I called again and they said that the case was sent to the embassy and I should wait. I understood..... We waited until the end of May to take further steps honestly because we never received any packets or interview. I kept getting mixed messages from some reading of vjers which is all good but a lot was saying that in Ghana you gave to wait for the embassy and you could not schedule your own. Well, as I said by talking with personal friends who have been through the process with a lawyer and another vj member we took a chance by filing the DS-160 and schedule an appointment. I was very nervous because our expiration date was for June 6. I emailed the embassy twice to inform that we would need an extension date. Within that time he traveled back and fourth to Accra. One week he went to get police certificate. He went to Accra because someone told him that he can get it back same day. WRONG! He ended up paying extra to get it faster. In which he did get it in a week. So he picked it up after he went to his medical appointment. Yes you are allowed to schedule that also. So he did that in which it took maybe 4 hours from the time the got there at opening. They told him results would be in the following Monday. Well that was yesterday and his interview was today. So everything had to be done and I thank Jehovah because he has seen us through every step. Because we surely were like lost sheep. He was scheduled for his interview at 7:30. He did not get out until 2 pm I don't have information about the interview yet because I need for him to rest because of long traveling back home. I will say this.....that we met one time last year after a year of dating. Traveled there with my friend. Because of our religion we have friends everywhere and we had a great time. So I shared photos of our worship, hanging out with friends and family etc....it wasn't a lot of photos I believe. I shared lots of WhatsApp conversation. And a lot wasn't just the cute messages, I shared the raw conversations of arguments also. I am a single mother and the only provider and my finances I guess are enough that I didn't need a sponsor. I live very simple. But one thing I was very proud of was because we were not sure if we would ever get approved and we just know that we want to be married so my son and I have a trip planned for next week to see him. But we were prepared for whatever that came our way. So I sent him the itinerary and asked him to out out in the packet. We are very serious about our relationship and if out came that I needed to move there we were happy to do so. I just say be authentic...... False relationship always show its ugly head and do your research. Sometimes I had to Google certain things. If you don't feel comfortable with an answer that you are given don't stop searching for it. Well i think that I have said a lot. Thanks and many best wishes......

Omg congratulations this is so exciting !!!!!!

Amen!! My husband had his visa interview this morning and was approved!! I'm so happy. Finally it is almost over and he will be here soon. He was there a few hours and says that he had a older white man that was friendly. He was smiling and only asked a few questions.

    Questions:

    1. How did you meet your wife?

    2. What have you been doing in ghana while waiting?

Then some small chat about doing Uber business (which my husband does). then he says that he was approved!

Its been almost a year exactly since we first started this process. We included chats from watsapp since 2015-present, Facebook chat from 2014, calling history, wedding pics, and maybe 10 pics of us doing things casually. also western union money transfers. my mom was able to attend the wedding and we have pics of that, so i believe that helped. I know it is common to front load for the Ghana embassy, but honestly I didn't. I only included 2 pictures from the wedding initially. Everything else I mentioned was taken to the interview. I'm not saying I'm suggesting this, but honestly I didn't even know about front loading when I submitted my NVC application lol. Good luck all that are waiting! And if I can be of help to someone waiting on the Ghana process let me know. I had a pretty straight forward and smooth Visa process.

Congratulations on your approval I'm so happy to see this!!! Praying for safe travels for your husband!!! We are almost there im so excited !!!
