My wife recently received her green card. She's from the Philippines and is going back to visit soon. Her green card is in her married name and passport in her maiden name. On here I read to buy the ticket in her maiden name to match the passport, but bring a copy of the marriage certificate. Is that still what everyone is doing? Any issues at all with it?

Hi I just came back from a 10 days vacation to the Philippines. My green card is in my married name and my passport is still in my maiden name. So far the travel was smooth. They don’t asked me for my marriage certificate and In case they do, I have it with me. The only problem that I had was in China that’s where our stopover, it took me like 15 minuets. You know that here in US they don’t print there tickets because if you need it, you can just pull out your emails. The problem is they don’t have WiFi in the airport and so we can’t acces our email. But overall the travel back was easy, from China to LA.

Hi, Just got an update on my case.

We filled on march 27th. On October 4th, I sent a service request online. They answered on October 19th but I never received the answer so I called on earlier this week to request the answer but they told me they couldn't investigate before 30 days have passed. I called back this morning, she told me they were working on my case. Later today I got a notification and my Green Card is now in production. I am not sure if the Service Request and Calling helped but I am happy I did it. I like to think it helped speed up the process.

I wish the best of luck to anyone still in the process.

What number did you call? We file march 8 and this waiting is insane. I will try to call and ask about my case. Thanks in advance

Plenty of people keep there maiden names when married. I have at least two close friends who have done the same. Here are a couple of pointers: Make sure you book any flights with the name on your passport and bring a copy of your marriage certificate when you travel just in case you need it. You MIGHT have an issue filing a Report of Marriage with the Philippine Embassy because of the Philippine "tradition" of name changes, but it really is none of there business. There are a few people who are very active in the Philippine subforum who have a great deal of knowledge about the procedures for the Philippines. You might want to post a question in that subforum like "Are there any concerns with keeping my maiden name when filing my Report of Marriage at the Philippine Embassy?"

Question why do we need to report of marriage in the Philippines?

    Hi, everyone

I just want to let you know that my I-130 and I-485 have been approved. Our interview was last week, July 12th at the Raleigh Durham office. The approval notice for I-130 was delivered Monday and the I-485/Welcome Notice was received today.

Our interview was okay. Tbh, I cannot say that it was good because of two things: my anxiety and the mini-argument at the end between IO and our lawyer.

So, after we swore in, Immigration Officer explained to us that there will be two parts of that interview: first is going through the forms and verifying all the information and second will be our story. Everything was going well on the first part, we answered each question without any problem. When it was time for the second part, which was about our story, my nervousness got me, I froze!! I was only able to say 3 sentences and my mind stopped. It should have been very easy because I did not have a reason to be scared but my anxiety got the best of me. Good thing my husband was able to do it and I was able to redeem myself at the end but recalling it now still makes me want to punch myself :))))

Anyway, after all questions were asked IO told us that he is going to approve us. At this point I was already relieved, however, before the it actually finished,  IO and our lawyer had an argument about my married name so despite hearing earlier the word "approved", we left the office without anything in our hands, not even a paper that says " we will review your file", nothing. In short, we were left hanging. I think the IO got upset on the argument so he just told us to wait for the decision in the mail, that's it. Two days of agony and I did not hear anything from them until I received an email on the third day with a change of online status that says card is in production for my I-485 case, whew!!! Thank you very much dear God!

On Tuesday, my status changed to card was mailed to me and if the delivery period will be the same as my EAD's, I will get the greencard tomorrow.

By the way, when I received the welcome notice today, I read it more than 10 times. In bold letters it said, "WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA".
It felt so good reading it again and again because I have been waiting for this moment for a long time and finally, it is here!!!

    Good luck everyone!!!
I am sending you the all the good vibes that you need!!

(Hi @nikaero, my update above as promised :)

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My advice on those who will have interview soon:
--- STOP READING about interview horror stories. You will not benefit anything from it but anxiety.

--- At least, 3 days before the interview, do not read anymore experiences of other people. Focus on calming your mind and spirit.

--- Not all interviews about your relationship are on a Q&A format, some IO would want you to narrate your story. That's what happened to us.

--- Your relationship is real, you have nothing to hide so you got this!!

    Congratulations 🎉

    Hello everyone,

We sent our AOS paperwork at the beginning of Feb but there was some delay with processing everything and we finally got our Notice of Action for AOS dated March 8th. We did fingerprints and we also got my spouse's EAD and AP ad the end of May.

Today, we were surprised with an update that says: "New Card Is Being Produced" for our I-485. They approved us without interview!! Yay!! We are so happy!!

    Good luck to everyone! :jest:

    Congratulations 🎈

  6. Hi I know how you feel, just like what she said LDR do work but at the same time it's hard. I came all the way from Philippines and now staying for good here in Houston Texas. Being in a long distance relationship is very challenging. And it's the airfare is quite expensive. I understand her frustration that you two decided to finally meet up but unfortunately due to some issues things didn't go as what you two has planned. I know that most of the people especially from the Philippines think that money is easy here in America, that's what I think before and now I learned the truth. You have to work hard to meet all the payments. I'm praying that you two will work this out. If it's really she's your destiny in the end, it will be 🙏

We got married on May 19 too! We're about to submit our AoS application next week but I want to confirm if a scanned copy of the birth certificate is good enough to submit because I might not be able to get my birth certificate from the Philippines before June 22 comes!

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you all and congratulations to all of us for getting hitched! :D

Congratulations. Im from the Philippines too. We did send a scan of my birth certificate and it's okay.

  8. I had the same experience during my medical. They say that something on my X ray results that they need further test. So I did the sputum test and I hate it and it grosses me, you where in open area, everyone is trying hard to give samples of their sputum. And after 2 months of culture test I'm negative and still they're not convinced and so they asked me to do the gene testing only then their satisfied with the results. I know how it feels.

I got a text at 9:30am from USCIS saying "Your case (I-131 case number) is now updated. Check "My Case Status" at www.uscis.gov. *Msg and Data Rates May Apply"

but my husband's combo card arrived a couple of weeks ago. I got my hopes up and thought maybe there was movement for an interview. But on the USCIS website there are no updates for our case numbers. Their alert system is very wonky

I received same text message. I thought there's a new updates since it's been a month after I received my card but to my surprise when I checked the website nothing's new. Guess they're sending text updates late. Oh well

Hello everyone!  I have another question. So my k1 visa case came out of AP after 4 months and went to Ready. My Fiancé got a call from Embassy and was asked questions about his education and job history. After that call the status went back to AP. It has been in AP for over 2 weeks. The non- immigrant says AP with an update on June 18th when embassy called. The immigrant says AP with an update on June 26th (concerned cause the Embassy was closed that day). My question is..Does anyone know if this is a bad thing? I really need someone's help on this. I'm just so confused again😕 I'm afraid that we are denied since it shows AP again for over 2 weeks and it was updated in the states (since Embassy was closed that day). Please any thoughts would be greatly appreciated😆

I remember back then I had the same situation, thinking that AP is a bad sign but it turned out they just need to do more background check. If I'm not good with remembering dates but I think I waited like 2-3 weeks till I received updates. Nothing to worry your getting there

All, I found a post online that mentioned a way to get EAD/etc. tracking numbers without needing to wait for USCIS to send them. It involves signing up for an account at usps.com, and setting it up with your address (the one that USCIS will mail packages to). Go to "Package Preferences" and set it to "Send me all future activity for this item." It will show you shipping labels that have been printed for your address! I just got this notification, while the USCIS page is still stuck on "We mailed your card".
