BTW what 4 questions did they ask your fiance if you don't mind me asking? Thanks

i was going to write up a review section but the questions were similar to the earlier reviews :

    1. how did you meet

    2. how many times did you meet

    3. are you going to have a engagement and/or marriage ceremony

    4. do you have relatives in the U. S.

the answer may vary depending on how you answered and supported  your I-129f but just answer honestly.

    hope this helps

Congrats!!! Were you with your fiance for the interview?

yes. it was worth the $2000 (airfare, hotel, other expenses) , i spent to fly out to Vietnam.     I felt my presence helped my fiancee. I think one thing not mentioned many times is that  It is very chaotic in the initial steps before waiting to be called up for the interview.  people in line mingled with  non k-1 visa applicants and they have different document requirements. people in line befriended each other and were sharing or asking the person next to them about the visa process who were not there for the same purpose.  for example, a misinformed person told my fiancee she needed 2 photos when you only needed one for fingerprint scanning.  i told her she needed only one but it placed doubt in her mind.   i reminded her we prepared  all the documents beforehand so don't divert from it.

my fiancee was given many instructions while standing in line and trying to follow them was difficult.  for example, an EMS form was given and told to fill it out. i was holding her purse and document folder while she scrambled to find her passport information and case number to complete the form.  she used the documents folder to write on.  it can be a challenge trying to write while standing with your purse and thick document folder.    what annoyed her was that person next to her keep asking her for help.  my fiancee being a nice person tried to help her but it really frustrated her.

so basically i was holding and guarding her stuff, putting documents in order for the next step while she stood in line for fingerprinting  and helped guiding her. Because i knew the process  learned from this site, i was a big help.

i saw many people alone and or a mother with a baby trying to do this alone was saddening.

i saw people confused and very nervous and scrambling for documents by  ripping open envelopes trying to get to the papers they needed.

during the interview, CO, only asked 4 questions.  they did not seemed to grill her on the proof of  relationship because i was sitting down staring directly at them.  interview was less than 5 minutes and was told "Welcome to the to America"

in a nutshell, i was her guide, aide, coach,

and  moral support. To see her nervously go through the process and be there for her,   it was not waste of a trip at all.   when she could not believe that she passed, It brought tears to my to my eyes.

i would recommend being there if you can.

The website doesn't mention the fee. I called but no one answer the phone or reply email. Would anyone in here could help please if recent had passport renewal?

    Much appreciated.

Yes. i called them before.  Very poor service.  Felt rushed and never gotten a clear answer.  Call them around 9AM or 9:30AM when they open for business.

Hello, Me and my wife are filing for AOS and she just makes a 100 dollars under the poverty guideline with her annual income. With over hours she makes at least 2 k over the poverty guideline for a household of 2. But the over hours are not guaranteed even when she gets at least 6 over hours a week. Since we have savings(around 7k) could we use those as assets to fill up the gap of a 100 dollars? I read that you need 3 times of the amount that you are missing. So that would be 3 x 100 = 300 dollars.

    thank you!

    Hi Everyone

My fiancee completed her medical exam and vaccination.  She received an EMS package containing the following:

    * Chest x-ray CD in sealed white CD envelope.

    * White copy of the vaccination documentation worksheet that indicates U.S. vaccination requirement is COMPLETE

    * yellow vaccination record with physicians signature.

IS the hospital sending her any more document?  I am guessing that the hospital is sending the medical exam results directly to the U.S. consulate where we will go for the visa interview?

    Thanks in advance.

Nevermind folks. , we received a blue envelope which appears to be the medical exam results along with the documents mentioned above.  :D

Not only was it required for the beneficiary, they also insisted that I fill one out too. Please make sure that you have one for yourself!

Why did they ask for a family tree?  Were you or your fiance previously married? Does she have a relative in the U.S.?

One of the advantages of doing a K-1 is that the Vietnamese authorities are completely out of the picture. The K-1 applicant only needs to deal with the US Embassy or Consulate. Since corruption is so endemic in VN, not having to deal with VNmese bureaucrats is a huge relief. A drawback of the K-1 visa is that the beneficiary will have to request a green card in the US, and pay about $1,200 in application fees to USCIS. To me, the $1.2K is well worth not having to deal with the leeches in VN.

I have helped several friends and acquaintances with the K-1 and CR-1 visa processes so I am unfortunately too familiar with the sorry situation in VN.

Yes. it is very unfortunate that happens in VN.  Good point there.  ;)

So my fiancé and her daughter can get the vaccinations in the U.S?  Of course that would be the best, but not sure how the consulate would react.  Do the vaccinations need to be done by an approved medical facility, or can she just go to her local doctor in Cam Ranh?

    thanks,

    Mike & Tuyen

After you schedule your visa interview you can go to the medical exam and vaccination.  Many folks on this forum went to the vaccination, first, then to the medical exam.  The doctor completes the form DS-3025.  See attached.    Vaccination is optional for k-1 visa but is recommended to complete while in vietnam because it is cheaper than in U.S. and you need it completed when filing for Adjustment of Status (AOS).  Also, you need to go to a civil surgeon to update the form if you decide to get the vaccination later in U.S.  It is better to get it done while in Vietnam.

Make sure the COMPLETE box is checked on DS-3025

Just wonder about how long would it take for NVC to send my case out. Cause it is now 1 month already since it sit still at NVC. May i ask your experience?

    Thank you

When it was still at NVC, I called them almost every other day and checked the CEAC web site https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx.

It should be in TRANSIT status which means they sent it to U.S. Consulate in HCMC.  If not after few days or so then you should call them and find out what is going on.

    Our case left NVC on

2017-09-06 and consulate received on 2017-9-8

    Is this normal?

What is the next step i have to do once NVC isseued me the case number in K1 visa

    Thank you

U.S. Consulate in HCMC got our case in few days after NVC sent it.   You can inquire about your case at https://vn.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/immigrant-visa-inquiry-form/

You need to attach copy of beneficiary's passport (ID page only)

There is and it's called Single Status Certificate that you can get by filling out a form at the local People's Committee where one resides. I asked my then-fiancee to apply for one and it took all of 15 minutes or so. You just need to bring your House Registration (the Red booklet) and your ID (Chung Minh Nhan Dan).

You don't need one for a K-1 as previously stated, however.

thanks for clarifying.   According to my fiancee, she has the Single Status Certificate which expires  few days before the visa interview.  Apparently, Single Status Certificate expires after 6 months it is issued.

if she doesn't need it to show at the k-1 visa interview then i won't tell her to get a new one.

Depends on country, but for US immigration it does not require such document of one's singleness.

The following links is for WA State to get such a letter if you are getting married at a country that requires it:

    http://www.doh.wa.gov/LicensesPermitsandCertificates/BirthDeathMarriageandDivorce/SingleStatusLetter

To clarify my question, my fiancee is vietnamese and lives in Vietnam.  I petitioned  for k-1 visa to get married in U.S.

  15. Hi Everyone

My finacee posed a question about whether for not she needed to still provide documentation that she never married and is single .  The K-1 visa instructions says to provide marital status documents for proof of legal separation.  Does this apply for fiancee who never married, single and has no out of wedlock child?

    Marital Status Documents:
 Applicant’s evidence of the legal termination of any prior marriages (Copy and original of divorce decree or death certificate of ex-spouse, if applicable).

    Thanks in advance.

  16. Great knowledgeable folks on Visajourney who has gone through the process.  You can get rid of the lawyer and use that money on your fiance(e):D  I am sure that same lawyer checks out this site for answers.

In my opinion, being not fluent in speaking English isn't negative; however, be ready to answer if the CO ever ask how you guys communicate :)

yeah. i think CO will ask my Fiancee about that.  She speaks basic English.  my past 2 visits, we spoke English and communicated fairly well.  i was actually surprised at her level of fluency.

There is a cable TV  show  called "90 Day Fiance".  one guy communicates with his Thai fiance using Google translate.  i think he got Approved for K-1 visa.  if this guy can then shouldn't be a problem for us. :D

  19. Hi Everyone

My fiance is ready for her medical and vaccination

I read some earlier post on this forum that vaccinations can be done first before the medical exam?    The K-1 instruction packet says to do the medical exam first then do the vaccination.

I also read that you should avoid  Cho Ray Hospital and instead go to the International Organization for Migration for medical exam.  I read that at Cho Ray the customer service isn't that great.

    Is this still true?

    Thanks in advance.

I dont think you need to be married to get the 5 year visa. My parents did it last winter and they are both USC. And im about to do it also. Its just a 5 year visa with multiple entries.

you might want to check with the issuer.  according to my Vietnamese  travel agent he say you can be either an  USC or not as long as married and can get one.

  21. 7 hours ago, Seth And Quynh said:

You can apply for the 5 year visa and it allows you to stay 6 months at a time. It's only 50$

yes.  i heard about a visa for married folks.  my travel agent quoted me costing $100  valid for 5 years but need marriage certificate.

in regards to my question, I received a response from a great traval agent: It appears that Việtnam visas with overlapping validity dates don't void the other.

    Dear Peter,

Regarding your question and to my understanding, the new visa doesn't effect the old one at all. Obviously you will use the old visa which validates until 3 November, 2017 to enter Vietnam.

I am sure you won't have any problem with the entry on 15 October. However, IMPORTANT:  if you wish to stay in Vietnam later than 3 November and then use the second visa, you will have to inform the immigration in Vietnam. In this case they may give you an option to stay OR leaving Vietnam over 24 hours to a week before coming back to Vietnam.

If you leave Vietnam before 3 November, you can come back any time in one year (til 29Oct,2018) with the second visa.

Hope the above information would help.
