The local office might not respond to you but if you send the letter with tracking then you know they got it. If your case is just stuck somewhere- like if the supervisor needed to sign off on the approval (very common for many internal reasons having nothing to do with you specifically) and then the supervisor or original case worker got reassigned (quit/promoted/etc) then theres a chance your case got misplaced. It could be sitting somewhere waiting for someone to pick it up who never will. So if you send a letter to the local office its pretty much the same thing as an infopass. You are inquiring with someone at that location about where the actual file is and whats the hold up with it. When they get your letter they have to place it in your file- so they will find your file. This solves the problem if it was lost. They may not respond but who cares if they do- the point is to get the file pulled out from wherever it is sitting not to get a reply. Speculating- if you dont get a reply its probably because its not worth the time- they will just process the approval and ignore the letter. If you do get a reply then whatever it says is the most accurate information you can get. If you do use the congressperson make sure to be specific that you need help contacting the local office about your case since you interviewed there and it was to go to a supervisor there and you have not gotten an approval or denial yet and its been X amount of days.

    Everything happens for a reason.

I visited my now-husband over 40 times during the period we were “dating”, engaged , early days of marriage whilst waiting for my CR-1 to be complete. Many times I wished I would have just stayed. We even turned around on the way to the airport once when I was due to fly home and called the airline and changed my ticket to have another week because I couldn’t bear to leave.

Adjusting status is very “final”. Once you’ve started the process, you have to continue to the end or find yourself in an even worse situation of having to start the whole visa process again and the possibility of not being able to visit during it (your days of VWP would be over and trying to convince a consular officer that you are not going to overstay on a B-2 when you have done exactly that before on the VWP is going to be a mammoth task).

Also, it leaves you without the option to properly tie up your affairs back home, bid farewell to friends and family, enjoy your last months in your homeland before you leave for good. I am glad that I didn’t listen to my heart when I was visiting and decide to stay. I’m glad I listened to my head. I enjoyed those final months in England. I spent my time traveling around the country, seeing friends and family that I would not be able to see for a long time (someone also for the very last time), went on boozy nights out with friends, ate as much of my favourite foods as I could, and really overdosed myself on all things England. When my visa came through I was ready to leave. House had been sold, belongings packed and shipped, left my job, said goodbye to everyone. I still miss England but I don’t feel I left in the middle of something, if you see what I mean. I had closed the door properly.

I understand you can’t wait to be with your fiancé. We all went through that. But you have your whole lives ahead of you. Enjoy these last months at home - you will miss it when you’re gone.

    Hey everyone,
Just wanted to post that I finally got my EAD/AP renewal in case anyone else was still waiting for their green card like I am.  It took 5 months, almost exactly double the time it took for the first one.  I'm starting to feel like one of the only ones still waiting but I am sure there are more of you out there.  I have no idea what's happening with my application or why it's taking so long but the USCIS processing time chart now says it can take up to 20 months for AOS through San Francisco.  Last time I checked though my application hadn't even left NBC.  I also put through a case inquiry and just got back the standard we can't tell you anything and who knows how long this will take.  I don't really care that much about the green card but I am just pissed that all this time I have been here won't count towards when I can apply for citizenship.  At this point I am kind of hoping it takes longer than two years and then I can get a 10 year card and not have to lift restrictions, lol.  Oh well, hope everyone's journey is going well!

Hi, I just went through the K1 process end of 2016 beginning of 2017.  You only need the name-based criminal record check.  The other version is a vulnerable sector record check if you are going to be working with an at risk population (children, seniors, etc.).  I did mine about 3 months before my interview because I wanted to be sure everything was done well in advance in case of delays.  I believe they also state that they are only good for a limited amount of time so don't do it too early.
    Good Luck!

Over a year for me too now.  Kind of depressing but we are powerless really to do anything so have to just sit and wait and keep our fingers crossed that our cases will be processed soon!

It's like a giant mystery. If it was a Sherlock Holmes story it'd be titled: "The case of the transferred cases." Or, alternatively, "The USCIS tier 1 agent who didn't bark."

    Hey everyone,
Our AOS application is taking forever too.  So frustrating.  I finally got fed up and called a Tier 2 rep this week and she said my application is still sitting at NBC.  She said there aren't any notes on it being a potential interview waiver but it could still be waived.  For the life of me I can't understand why it wouldn't have been sent to San Francisco (my local office) already if I am not getting a waiver.  Like do they just throw them in a pile and ignore them for a year, ha ha.  She also told me I was silly for not already submitting my EAD/AP renewal because mine comes up end of April.  I sent it in this weekend but know I won't get the card on time but at least we get the extension so I can work.  Oh well, the entire system is just so broken.  It makes me miss Canada even more!
    Best of luck to everyone!

Hi, I got a RFIE for my marriage certificate (which I had provided a certified copy already).  I responded the day after I got the letter and I already have my EAD card.  This doesn't seem to have affected my processing as I received my card faster than a lot of people on here who haven't had a RFIE/RFE but I did also respond a lot faster than you.  I'm not saying your case will be the same but just letting you know about my personal experience with this issue.

Mine was approved on April 25th with no expedite.  By the looks of the board and all the approvals it looks like they are starting to catch up to our applications.  Of course it is all just chance and depends where you are in the queue and who is working on your case.

    Good Luck!

Hey, thanks for replying.  As chance would have it my EAD status just updated this morning to "New Card Is Being Produced"!!!  I'm so happy as I really want to start working.  Getting a bit bored hanging out with the dog.  I was super surprised that it went through so fast.

My AOS status still says "Response To USCIS' Request For Evidence Was Received" from March 10th.  At this point I'm just praying my case is being processed through the NBC and I don't have to go and interview as my office is San Francisco and it would be a pain to have to go there.  Fingers crossed

Hope you get an update soon!

Sorry it took me so long to see this! I've been organizing a move and dealing with all this stress, I haven't been on the forums pretty much at all. Any updates on your situation?

I've mailed my response to USCIS and they updated my case status for the AOS today to having received it. I checked with my lawyer-friend who does immigration cases and he told me to send the updated financial documents and tax transcript with the RFIE for the marriage certificate so that's what I did. I sent 2016 transcript, 6 paystubs as well as another original marriage certificate and a photocopy of my marriage license - with an itemized letter explaining everything included and what it's in relation to. Lawyer also told me to specify in the letter that my original AOS package did include the requested certificate but I am following their request by sending another.

Now all I need to do is update my address with USCIS (I move on the 30th so I'm going to wait a day or two then do the online address change - I don't want them sending mail when I'm not there to receive it) and continue the waiting game. Hoping I get EAD soon, not working is killing me! Ya think it sounds nice to take a few month "vacation" from work but I've gone completely stir crazy!

Edit: If it helps and if you haven't gotten any updates, said lawyer friend told me an RFIE for the AOS doesn't affect processing time for the EAD; he said only if you were to get an RFE for the EAD itself does it affect the timeline.

Hey, I'm in the same boat as you.  Sent in a certified copy of my marriage certificate and received a RFIE saying it wasn't provided.  So frustrating but glad I wasn't alone.  I sent another certified copy and a photocopy the next day after speaking with an agent on the phone who said the person processing my file "probably wasn't paying attention" while processing it and I should just do what they say.  My status updated two days later saying that they had received it but since then no changes to speak of.  The waiting is killing me and I'm super concerned that this will affect my work permit which I really need.  I didn't submit the 2016 tax return so I guess I'll see if I get a further RFE but I'll definitely bring it to the interview in case.
