So the military can't keep you in custody... I didn't see anything prohibiting the DOJ from doing so. Or anything prohibiting the military from engaging you as a possible threat to be handed over to civilian authorities at a later date.
We should never, ever, EVER encourage the military to conduct anti-terror operations on US soil. Read the constitution. They didn't even want a standing army. They knew what that does to the civilian population. We didn't support it then. We cannot support it now.

There would need to be millions of UNARMED protesters to threaten the government.
If even a couple hundred of these folks were armed, the government would be paying attention pretty quick. Notice how seriously the tea party was taken? Only a very small majority of those folks showed up armed yet the implication was, "we have guns" and it was immediately taken seriously.
Liberty's teeth is the second thing government will acknowledge. Money is first, but arms are a close second.

It was intended NOT to function. It is SUPPOSED to be difficult to pass a law. Our government was not intended to run things that were intended to be run by private business. That is why it will always fail miserably. It is trying to do something it is not designed for

Congress has "functioned" all too well. We have the disasters of Obamacare, TARP, "Stimulus" Spending, and deficit funding gone wild.

Unfortunately they keep trying to "fix things" with pieces of legislation, each one more retarded than the next.

I have always been puzzled by the basic acceptance in many parts of the media that the *gasp* N-word is the worst thing that can be said. I get that it's offensive. But there are lots of offensive things out there. Why is it given a virtual pass as being the worst thing out there. In high schools, for instance, the F-word is accepted as commonplace but using the N-word can get you a quick trip to the guidance counselor.

somewhere between 1.6 - 2.8 million muslims in the country, and the FBI thinks that are all evil?
While I don't doubt there are sleeper cells here in the states, it's a bit absurd to place an entire group of people into one classification.

I hope they are telling the Agents how much they screwed up by not listening to a certain agent that raised alarms that some students at a flying school were learning to fly planes but not land them and should be looked into further.

I'm not even sure why we have an FBI. Isn't it enough that we have several hundred or thousand armed people patrolling the streets of every town, city and state in the country?
    Don't we feel safe already?

I wish I had a dollar for every time I had to explain this to someone. I wish I could use all that money to further educate folks.
"But they're just not like us. They're different."
I wish people were as distrustful of their government as they were of Islam.

This is it in a nut shell to me. It is what I want every American to realize can happen to all of us. If we demonize all of a certain people now then how long before we ourselves are demonized? These laws that have been put in place to keep us safe supposedly can be used against ANYONE. I remember when the Patriot act happened that we heard that if we are doing nothing to cause the Feds to come after us then why worry? The reason we have to worry is that when the constitution can be ignored for the supposed good then a line has been crossed that makes it seem OK to trash any part of that document.
I personally think that most Muslims are just like us. Hard working, God fearing, family types, that just want to live a good life and try our best to do good. At the least the few Muslim families in my neighborhood does and they also come to the same B.B.Q., same events and we all talk about the same things. I have seen none with horns or rant and scream about Jihad. A few weeks ago a couple that used to come over and join said that they stopped because of the very few Muslims started joining us. I was proud of a friend that I would least expect to say this but he said, "well you are not missed at all and they were more than welcome to join us." I concurred and said that to please stay away when I next host the B.B.Q. Besides he always brought the most crappy beer and Omar always brings the good beer.

I 'get' what the article was saying, but at the end of the day just because a select group of a religion is different, doesn't mean you take on the whole religion.
When you look at the people we've killed overseas in the wake of 9/11 (many of them defending their home/way of life and not really 'terrorists,') then it becomes abundantly clear that we are in the wrong 'war' with the wrong countries and should get out now before further damage to overall humanity is done.
This isn't a war against islam, terrorists, etc. this is a corporate defense contract war in which we make certain companies and indiviuals wealthier. It's a 'jobs' plan for American troops and private security firms.
When you look at what's really been going on and get a good grasp of it, you start to realizing that all the blood shed, all of the lives lost have been in vain. They've been for nothing more than a bunch of wealthy bastards wanting to make more money.
If we truly gave a damn about our men and women, gave a damn about our national security, we wouldn't be frisking every American before they get on a plane. We'd have a secure southern (and noorthern) border in which would be virtually impossible to pass without detection. Is that the case though? No, not at all. A 'smart' terrorist doesn't give a damn about airplanes. He cares more about buses, trains, large buildings, etc.
The American sheep have spent a decade in 'fear' over nothing.

People have overcome a lot more than this at HCMC. If your relationship is genuine there's nothing to worry about. There might be a few delays, but in the end you will get a visa. Is it worth the heartache? Only you know.
