I don't think they check your visa. As long as your I-94 is valid and you have proof that you're currently applying for AOS you'll be fine. When you receive the ID, just know it's only valid for 1 year because that's how long they anticipate the green card to take for approval. If you get the green card before the ID expiration date then head back down and show them proof of green card and residency so they can update the ID. It might be worth looking into a drivers license too. Works the same way!

I was able to get my Michigan state ID after applying for AOS. I just had to take my NOA1 to show I'd applied and my ID was valid for 1 year. If you go to SOS they will give you a checklist of what you need to get an ID card

I'm in the process of enrolling in the college around my area and they're a small school who have never dealt with a K-1 before but they've been extremely helpful and I'm being charged as an 'in county resident' so I get the cheapest fees. Look around before you decide which to study at, find a course and ask lots of questions to the school you're interested in. Some schools do charge international fees but if you can explain your status that could help with fees

I filed December 5th so we're kinda similar in timelines. For the USCIS processing times, as of January 31st, they were working on Julys cases. Which put them roughly 6 months behind so technically because now we're almost to the end of March, they should be on September.

But that's not necessarily true however. The processing times tend to be slow and outdated, and not including delays such as employees being on vacation so cases are left on a desk for a week or two or RFEs.

Last month, they said December were working on March which was a 9 month wait, so it's really just a waiting and hoping game. Visa journey is great in terms of looking at other people's timelines that are similar to your own so you can check and compare with people's experiences with the same field office.

I can't reply to the employment questions but regarding the address you should put your mother and step fathers house. I
moved over to the US in October and my husband was sharing a tiny apartment with his friend for a month then we bought our own place. Once you finally move out and get a new address, there is a link on the uscis website that allows you to change address. Then we filed for AOS a week later and all mail has come to that address no problem so you should be fine  they definitely do not pay a visit lol, I don't think they have the manpower to do so!

Lstanick15 got a reaction from Diane and Chris in Travel while waiting for Green Card
Hi all, I have a quick question...

i have filed for my AOS from K-1 visa and awaiting green card. However, I did not apply for the travel document as I don't plan to leave the US until after i receive my green card. So my question is, can I travel to another state with my passport as long as I don't leave the country or do I still need the travel permit? My passport is still valid and obviously stamped with the k-1 visa.

    thanks in advance!

I've just checked again and the site appears to have been fixed so dates are all different again, but it doesn't look like it's been updated because it's still showing 'as of November' dates. Hopefully it gets correctly updated soon enough!

Last time I checked on USCIS before the website went crazy they were working on Octobers applications, so they should be working on Novembers now. Take a look at processing times on this website, people update their timelines and it's usually a pretty close estimate of when you should be approved.

We also have similar timelines of when we applied, just a few days apart so we should definitely be hearing something in the next few weeks!

If you happen to pass the 90 day period of when you applied you can contact USCIS and request information on case status.

Fingers crossed you hear something soon!
