So, any other nominations?
War and Peace. More people have lied about reading this than any other book.
lol... Or how about Ulysses, by James Joyce -
-
I have never listened to his show. The article appeals to those who like Rush. So what? He is not a politician, I don't need to know what he says or thinks - I do not even care what he says or thinks.
If he ever stands for election, I would of course seek to find out more about him - but I do not foresee that eventuality.
Living proof that the article is correct.
Along the same logical lines you would also believe a Simon Callow fan saying it's not possible to understand what it's like to live in America if you don't watch American Idol.
I presume you mean Simon Cowell - Simon Callow is in fact an reknown actor and is considerably older than Simon Cowell. Its always good to get the right guy...otherwise you could be attributing all kinds of horrible things to the wrong guy! fancy that!....

If I was a business I would be extremely hesitant to accept money from the government - it usually comes with conditions and then you lose control. In regard to AIG etc - if the government has simply let economic nature take its course none of this bonus payments would even be an issue. American is supposed to run on capitalism?
I suggest you take a look at the UK's economic history during the 70's pre Thatcher years to see how privatisation affects the people - I always was told Americans prefer less government interference?

"Apparently the BBC reckons most people will have only read 6 of the 100 of the books here."
I am not sure how the BBC went about compiling the list - other than people were asked to nominate their favourite book - if the voters had to vote for ONE book then it is no suprise the list is so varied. Also possible that although - if it is true that most people have only read 6 of the 100 they may well have read other books not in the 100.
On personal note - when the group of work colleagues decided to do this challenge they agreed as a group that they could scratch off any on the list they had read in the last 2 years - and once it got underway it was amazing how many people said they had a copy of a certain book/s and willingly lent it out - it was also suprising how little anyone had to buy or borrow books from the library - it seemed a lot of people had a reading habit!
-
Excellent idea.... A few years ago a group of colleagues decided to read as many books from the BBC'S Big Read poll....they took the challenge to read as many from the top 100 in a year as possible - the only rule as such was to actually read it rather than just flick and pick parts. It was interesting that when I was reading books that I normally wouldnt really have bothered with I quite enjoyed them ! Revisiting Wuthering Heights for instance was vastly different as a adult from the time I read it as a child. I also discovered new authors Paulo Coelho for instance. It also sparked a new interest in film - those books which had been made into films found their way onto my DVD list too -

I too would need a bit of time getting the book nominated as EVERYTHING here has to be ordered online - but i certainly would love to join.

I actually watched the whole Glenn Beck show regarding the 9/12 project. The title 9/12 he picked because he felt that the day after 9/11 the people in the USA seemed to know what "doing the right thing" was - REGARDLESS OF PERSONAL POLITICAL BELIEFS. He feels ALL politicians should be held accountable and discussed the "assessment" that those in the military have to go through, suggesting that most politicians could not reach the high standards that the serving men of women of this country have to live by. I may not agree with everything he says - but I can only be constructively critical if I actually listen to what he says - maybe go check it out if i dont beleive it - but an open mind is essential.
I sometimes wonder if people dont want to listen to something because they are afraid they will have to see/hear something they wont like? Then they will be in a quandry that they may have to make changes? After all - the comfort zone is great - stepping out of it might be challenging and uncomfortable.
-
I watched the Glenn Beck show when he promoted this 912 project - it really seems like he is simply saying Americans needs to get back to the values and principles that made the USA what it was always about, recommending a book which gives and explains the founding fathers principles for America.
As I understood it he is promoting the return of concepts like accountability, honour, integrity, honesty which has been sadly lacking in certain areas. Today I heard that AIG announced bonus payments to be made to employees and the response from the listening public seems to be that when offered the intended receipiants should decline them. It seems a fair concept that bad management should not be rewarded with bonus's - where's the incentive to do well?
People need to understand - it doesnt matter what your political leanings are... this is about something much bigger - people need to stop being worried about what other people think and concentrate on "doing the right thing". I would recommend watching the episode if you can - As for bringing God into the arena - do not forget why the pilgrims fled to the shores of America - to escape religious oppression so how can you not bring it in?
He also wants to empower the people - "you are not alone".... and he is right - the government works for the people not the other way round. One of his remarks that really struck home for me is one I use all the time " Say what you mean and mean what you say"

This is the kind of thing that gives responsible hunters and hunting a bad name.

The money doesn't come without strings; it also creates mandatory programs and dependencies that would exist long after the funding for them is gone. Someone has to show concern for the country's long term fiscal health since most DC pols certainly aren't.
Why don't you go to Washington and straighten them out? You know how to solve all the worlds problems, give it a shot.
To be fair - it is a valid point...when the banks got their bailout it came with conditions - I understand some banks declined the offer too. Your response above doesn't actually address the comment made by Barza - telling someone to go to Washington to sort out the problems could equally be applied to yourself - why dont you go to Washington?

Can't offer any advice but I agree with everyone ... very very beautiful items !
You must get a lot of enjoyment and pleasure making them, and your wife probably gets compliments from other ladies?
Personally whilst I love handbags, my budget doesn't stretch to what they are actually worth ( it doesnt stop me admiring though), but there are people who can afford to give you what they are worth. and when you invest time, energy to make a custom, one of a kind bag then you deserve to get the best price you can.
Good luck with your venture Gary.

If you think Gordon would be the boss from hell then think again..Marco Pierre White was Gordons boss at one point in his career... Gordon's biography indicates he was not the easiest man to work with !

Well done with your weight loss - I for one am impressed!
You might want to reconsider wether you NEED to lose that extra weight to get to the 100 mark - dont starve yourself!
Something you might want to consider ( those who calorie count) : People sometimes choose to journal or count a certain amount of cals a day according to their weight and weekly loss required i.e. they choose 1500 cals a day - well it can help sometimes to consider your calorie allowance in terms of the week rather than daily so that you have a few more one day and a few less the next - I think it is called zig zag?

I counted 3 Canadian born US politicians... I focused on the American born in Canada because you were specific about Canada .... but just for a fair and balanced view I realised some on the wiki list you provided go back to the 1800's ! I tried to keep my list relatively modern.
-
It is also interesting what white vinegar can do... a search on google will reveal all!
-
We've got a few Canadians who were elected to high office. How many American-born Canadians can say the same? Part of it assumes there has to be at least one competent American who can be president and they're aren't any questions about dual loyalty.
Interestley how about Norman K Atkins - born in New Jersey Viola Legere born in Massachusetts Bruce Hyer born in Connecticut, Larry Spencer born in Missouri. The Canadian House of Parliament is made up people who have come from a vast array of countries - Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Poland, Netherlands, UK just to mention a few - they certainly seem to be a very diverse group!

My american husband LOVES Shameless... he is the one who seeks to download it from the internet ! ... I got the first series via Netflix ( which provided subtitles) after that he was hooked! .... he agrees that it would never find its way onto "normal" tv channels over here but thinks it is well worth the effort to get to know what things like "giro" etc translate to in US terms... he needed a little help with some of the language but since then he has been hooked.... I think it will depend on the american watching it as to wether they "get it".
I am constantly suprised by the efforts to translate programmes into US versions - recently they tried Life on Mars but not sure how it was received.

My experience in 2007 was that the lady wanted to see them and she took the copies for the file... somewhere on the instructions it does advise to take copies of documents so that the "originals" can be return to you - I beleive it makes the statement that otherwise they may keep the "originals".
Good Luck

Pushbrk, I presume you must have missed the information .... direct quote from the OP ......"he is American and am Filipino.." ...
That to me suggests the OP is the beneficiary ...... as the American would be the petitioner the poster would be the beneficiary.

I sympathise ! I know how concerned I was when we moved from WA to Alaska that our puppy would be ok.
He wasnt able to travel in the cabin with us due to his size but I do know that Alaska Airline will allow smaller pets to travel in the cabin dependant on size - look on the airlines websites for information on travelling with pets and any restrictions.
By the way - where in Alaska are you going?

As a girl living in Yorkshire I remember Geoff Boycott !.... I did receive instruction on how to fill out that big book that the score keepers have....

and one will remain home for now with his grandma
However, others will correct me if I am wrong, if this child intends to eventually come to the US, shouldn't they also be listed on the form and attend the interview?
If they don't, then how will they ever come to the US?
Yes and no. The Consulate needs to be informed about the child. The couple also needs to become intimately familiar with age-out issues with a 20 year old. She must arrive in the USA before her 21st birthday or forget it. I'm not sure about the age-out requirement for adjusting status but these are issues to get definite answers on right away.
The 18 year old must follow to join as K2 within a year. After that he has no chance at all because he will not qualify as a step-child of the US Citizen.
Wouldnt ALL children be named on the intial I-129F ? even if they stay behind... so I guess thats one place USCIS would see the child.
Pushbrk.. you remark seemed to suggest the child has no chance to follow ..So what is a I-130 about? A permanent resident may file for a unmarried son/daughter over the age of 21 or older.... or so the guide to this form says....

Be sure to hold on to the NOA2 as it will be needed for the next stage - AOS ( Adjustment of Status)

Both your posts contain misinformation. Since know you're "not sure", why not refrain from the errant speculation.
There is no legal way for this poster to stay unless she marries the petitioner but there is a legal path after the marriage. Unless she can successfully claim abuse, she'll remain illegal and already has sufficient overstay to be banned from future US entry for 10 years.
Nothing contains misinformation.
I did a search, I found the information and corrected myself and gave the poster options.
Get off your high horse..AS USUAL.
This from your first post is "misinformation".
Even if you got married now and filed for AOS, your case would probably be denied, I'm not sure on that one.
Since you weren't sure, IMO better to be sure first or say nothing on the subject.
This from your second post is "misinformation".
Exactly, I think the best bet would be returning home and trying to file for another K1 visa...a waiver will be needed.
Waivers are not required for being a beneficiary the second time. They are required for petitioners filing multiple petitions. Since the current "fiance petitioner" has no intention of marrying the OP, he wouldn't be filing any second petition. Without marrying the original petitioner, she has no "best bet" but to leave the US or remain illegally.
Please try to control your "premature postaculations".
Pushbrk - You yourself have in many post placed a disclaimer to the effect you could be mistaken therefore dont you think that could be construed that YOU werent sure ? However that didnt stop you from making your post.
You are not immune to getting it wrong too - I recall at least one incident regarding the recent changes to the medical procedures and paperwork - at least the poster went and researched the correction.

It seems the meaning of "Volunteer" has got lost along the way -
