  1. Hi,

Sent I-751 on 06/04/10 ( cutting it fine as greencard expires 06/17), post office tracking indicated delivered to CSC 06/14/2010.

Getting mail to and fom bush Alaska seems to take a little longer than other places - patience is a virtue they say!

Somewhat concerned as we live in government provided housing and all bills are deducted directly from husband wages so no utility bills in joint names. I was able to submit joint tax filing for 2007,2008 & 2009, savings account showing myself as beneficiary, medical insurance with me named as beneficiary, joint bank account & envelopes showing joint correspondance and photo's. Any thoughts on wether this is enough?

  2. How can anyone make a informed educated decision when the details of the bill are not known?

How can a person who says we will do things differently - promising open and transparent cspan coverage then deal behind closed doors ?

If this bill is so good ... why would you need to do "Lousiana purchase" or the "Cornhuskers kickback" not mentioning the union debackle?

  3. Alaska: $1.35 billion shortfall or 30 percent of its budget

Isn't this the state run by the very governor that proudly celebrated her "responsible, fiscally conservative budget" for FY 2010 less than two months ago? Now she's put her state into the top 10 of the most broke states? First Wasilla, then Alaska. Good thing it stops right there.

"That drop caused the state's corporate taxes -- essentially all oil money -- to fall 32 percent compared to last year, creating a rare budget problem for Alaska. The state easily solved it this year by taking money out of flush reserve funds, built up during oil boom years. "

It seems someone had the sense to have at least something in reserve - did you read the link or just the short except given in the OP's post ?

  4. My "back yard" houses several creatures - well not house exactly but foxes, squirrels, and if you are forgetful enough and leave your fishing catch outside a bear or two. A small ride up to the beach will sometimes result in otters sightings and other marine animals - We are lucky to live so close to a Wildlife Refuge.

  5. I get the argument that Barack Obama won the election, however what should concern Americans is the selection of Tim Geitner - especially as he hasn't been able to pay his taxes surely no matter which political side you stand on this is a huge mistake?

Nancy Pelossi first claiming she didn't know about waterboarding - then clearly backtracking and desperately trying to split hairs so that she can cover her back end - not worried yet?

The notion that secret memo's regarding the methods of extracting information from dangerous people should be open for all to see? I don't know if any other country has been so willing to give up such information?

After claiming through out his campaign that transparancy would be the watch word - the stimulus bill was pushed through with little time to actually read it?

These are just a few things that came to mind - Maybe this wasn't the change that people expected or voted for ?

The citizens have the right to freedom of speech - as I understand the so called "Teabaggers" gripe is that they are just fed up of this type of governement - even being unhappy during the Bush years.

Maybe this is the a case of the straw that breaks the camels back - they voted for change because that was the presidents manifesto - they went against the republican party because they were being promised something different and now there is no sign of it - so to say it is just sour grapes seems an easy way out. Maybe people really have had enough of more of the same - so they exercise their rights and options ?

  6. lol... ok ..if you want to believe your version of history so be it.... it isnt nearly as clear cut as you seem to think... Britain was already in a war long before the Americans deemed it necessary to join in the fight against Hitler, only when it served America's interest did the US join in.... when we asked for help American's didnt want to know... much the same as when the Falklands war broke out.... the American ambassador was too concerned about keeping in with the Argentine government.

I believe you owe a debt of gratitude to the French for your victory over the British for your independance?

  7. Didn't Mayor Julianni of NYC on 911 get knighted by England as well? He had to bow in front of the queen.

he's not the president, so who freaking cares?

It's kneeling, not bowing, not that it matters.

    knighthood_pic1.jpg

England is prejudice towards Asians. Have anyone heard an Asian getting knighted?

Yes... Ahmed Salmon Rushdie - just for one off the top of my head...

  8. The UK and Australia are just run of the mill regular countries. They are not America.

With all due respect..."trashing" other countries with this kind of remark merely points out your lack knowledge regarding both aforementioned countries.

He is right. There's nothing extraordinary about the UK or Australia. They are hardly a blip on the map.

Really... please tell that to the British and Australian troops who have in the past and are currently in combat zones with American troops....

  9. The UK and Australia are just run of the mill regular countries. They are not America.

With all due respect..."trashing" other countries with this kind of remark merely points out your lack knowledge regarding both aforementioned countries.

  10. From personal experience I can tell you - if you are invited to meet the queen you will be coached before the meeting takes place ... and this coaching is done regardless of your status or rank. He will have advisors who are more than aware of what is expected - and the possible repercussions. He isnt meeting a crowd of well wishers .. he is on the world stage representing his country - it is part of his job to get this right - if he can't get something like this correct ........

  11. I would suggest that the president has, amongst his huge resources people in his adminstration who have an excellent grasp on what is good etiquette and what is not, they would have debated and discussed this with him so that he was fully aware of what the implications of any actions he took when it comes to greeting heads of state - so I dont think it is fair to call it a "gaffe". We are told that the president is a very articulate, intelligent well educated individual - so you would think that he has weighed up what his advisors say to him and then must make his decisions himself - and understand he will be judged by his actions .. after all actions speak louder than words.

  12. This reminded me of a couple I use to know when I lived in WA who couldnt work because they had diabetes.... but managed to afford cable TV and watched the food channels all day !. On the flip side - it also reminded me of a former colleague when I worked in UK who was in a wheel chair but still managed to get to work full time and did an excellent job.

  13. Am I obligated to do that to validate my opinion on why I wouldn't want to read this book?

    No I am not.

LOL...but obligated to trash it ? ..if you read the OP's opening post, it was actually a question for those who HAD read it.

You chose to expound and state you dont listen to talk radio types... I merely wondered (as a serious question) who you DO listen to.

Your right you dont have to validate your opinion.... however others dont have to consider your reply has any value either.

  14. If you're suggesting that the only place that a person can derive political opinions is through TV commentators and talk radio, I'm not surprised you're finding it confusing.

    Oh well.

I am not suggesting that at all...and your reply doesnt answer the question....I am wondering exactly where YOU take your political commentary from...what are the sources that you believe have merit and value...you offer a lot of critiscism but do not offer alternative options?

  15. I am reminded of some relatives that constantly complain that they didnt like holidaying abroad - one of the arguments being " we dont like that foreign muck they serve for food" - all this whilst chomping into a pizza?

I wonder where Private Pike actually DOES get his political commentaries from? - now I am intrigue as to what he considers to be "good" sources of information?

  16. If you like. I don't have to read the book to decide if its something I would want to read. That's why we have blurbs and editorial reviews.

Everyone does it, I don't see why people want to pretend otherwise.

Yes but I am always aware that people may have a slanted (bias) view in a particular way - I havent read it but if I was to take you "review" of the content you posted (your opinion) then I wouldn't bother to read it... an opinion that isnt actually based on reading it for yourself. I am also aware that I can read a book but i dont have to beleive what it has to say if I dont agree - at least any critiscism I have will come from what I actually read and thought out for myself.

  17. Angry finger pointing garbage. Its probably right up your alley...

I take it you've read it then?

Nope. But its pretty obvious what its about and who its aimed.

    Its not for me.

So what is 'for you' then since you are so open-minded and all? Enlighten us.

All you know how to do is criticize.

This is what is known as Contempt prior to investigation.

  18. You know TCO, the way you talk about your wife, I am surprised that you haven't shot porn videos of her and sold them on the internet.....Or have you?

That jibe was prolly aimed at me, so I'll answer.

Not all women are ashamed of their beauty. Not all women want to hide their hair under a hajib. Not all women are insecure. Not all women are afraid of sexuality. Not all women limit their own lives.

Some women enjoy being attractive. Some women have it easy. Some women go to trouble to look even more attractive. Some women live their lives freely, and without shame.

Some women choose to express their love for their husband in a myriad of ways. Some women are deliberately attractive, knowing that society will judge a man based partly upon how his wife appears. An attractive appearance can be an important part of a healthy relationship.

The poster said TCO as in Tallcoolone... wonder why you got so defensive???

  19. As a one time resident of one of Britains other colonies (Gibraltar) I can tell you that the British government cedes to the wishes of the residents. Gibraltarians insist that they do not want to come under Spanish rule. Referendums take place regularly with the same results.

If the residents of The Falkland Islands wish to be considered a British terrority then so be it.

  20. Come on... a sin tax is not the same as an income tax.

Maybe he is trying to create incentives for him to quit smoking?!

Buying cigarettes and booze are a choice. The taxes he was referring to are the ones levied against EVERYONE.

    Nice try.... NOT! :dead:

Not sure he made that distinction in his speeches. This is just another avenue to tax and spend......More to come for sure.

But we can't go forever without paying something! We can't keep getting Presidents that claim they will lower our taxes or won't raise our taxes, and then have everyone expect to get all the changes they want.

All these programs people want... COST MONEY!!! How the hell are all the things we love to have getting paid for? People need to start paying their fair share.

That reminds me... who was it who said "Read My Lips... No New Taxes!"

    :dead:

Keep throwing darts people!!! There's a pot out there with your name on it!

Well... I personally prefer a politician who tells the truth - sadly most people who have been honest about plans have found themselves without votes - because they had the courage to be honest - so politicians learn to tell the people what they want to hear to get the votes - then do whatever they want once they are installed. I can live with someone saying " My governemnt will be able to give you XYZ - it will mean an extra tax on XYZ by xyz percentage".

However this current president will continue to break his promises as time progresses, and pointing fingers at what a previous president did or did not do isn't constructive - it merely points out that both sides are as bad as each other !

  21. Who gives a ####### about taxes on ciggies? Add some more for all I care. I hate the smell of smokers, its the most pointless of the addictive habits.

And who says poor people smoke more than rich people? I see plenty o' rich people smoking around NY.

Edit: I stand corrected. A CDC study I just googled says as education rises fewer people smoke. Also that Native Americans smoke the most - Obama must be racist too.

I don't smoke ..never have but I DO respect people's right to choose. My workplace designated an area ( outside) as a smokers area - my choice, if it bothered me is to not go near it! I hear arguments about how much smoke related diseases cost the healthcare industry - well given the tax hikes I think the smokers pay for it by the packet? Whats next - tax hikes on fast food outlets?
