I can only speak for my experience. I had the same exact situation. We met online and after over 6 months of long distance I visited Nigeria (the 7th month after meeting)...and met him in person for the first time. I also stayed 10 days and began the k1 process upon my return. He is now here in the U.S. with me and is my husband. Currently work permit and green card is pending.
That's my personal experience. I was also advised to visit more than once but as a single parent at the time I just couldn't afford to. There was definitely a lot of praying and trusting God.
Take lots of pics on different days and places of you 2 together and with family while there. My husband said that his interview was very smooth and quick with just a few questions but there were others that he witnessed get rejected (though they may not have been k1s).
I also advise that you are extremely detailed with sending a complete packet once you apply for the K-1. Send chats, pics, as much proof as possible...even you interactions on social media. Make sure your fiance knows things like birthdays, prior marriage info (if applicable). If he has traveled before make sure all of that info is clean as well.
Most of all....go on your trip and ENJOY the experience of meeting your fiance and planning your life together. This process is already stressful enough so enjoy the meaningful times.
Best wishes!

Thanks that's good to know. I'll just call on Monday since the text doesn't say what the actual update is.

Hello all,
I just received a mobile alert at 2:30am EST for our case with USCIS for AOS from K-1. I was so excited only to see there is no change on the site from the last info that was there. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it immediately updated on site or should I just try again when the sun comes up? lol

You need a certified marriage certificate.
I thought that might be the case...the strange thing though is I haven't received the letter yet; which according to the USCIS site was sent 3/21. In the past I have gotten letter fairly quickly. We did however receive the biometrics appointment letter already.

Did you send in 2016's tax return? That's another one I can think of right now.
Yes I sent that too

It's more than likely an RFIE, not a regular RFE that you get when your paperwork is actually being worked on.
RFIE = Requiring further initial evidence. Something in your AOS packet is missing that should have been there.
Yes it's a Request for Initial Evidence. Weird because I followed the guide to a "T" regarding paperwork to be submitted ...the only thing I can think of is a certified marriage license instead of the copy.

I just added my cases to my USCIS account and see that an RFE was sent out already for the 485 on 3/21 after being accepted on 3/10...is that quick for an RFE? I mean I'm glad it's been touched and looked at already but wow...that was fast!

We received hard copies of NOA1 on Monday evening for all 3 (485/work permit/travel card)...YAY!

Can't he just use his passport?! With the NOA1 he can prove his legal status here. Just wondering as I never thought that was a problem.
The concern is that his I-94 is expired. As we know, his K-1 expired when he entered. He did use his passport to travel a month after he got here with no problem, but also the 90 day date there has passed as well. When we went to the DMV they said that we need to come back with the i-797 in order to get an ID/driver's license for him so we will do that once we get the hard copy; but his sister is having a baby dedication for our nephew next week and I don't think we'll get it in time. Even if it comes a day or 2 before, we didn't want to risk buying a flight ticket if it didn't come in time so now the prices are much higher.

Received my email notifications about 12:25 AM this morning (YAY) not sure why I didn't get the texts tho. Anywho...now the wait is on for EAD. My poor hubby has already been very restless since arriving and just wants to work. Plus the fact that he doesn't have an ID to travel (domestically) is frustrating him because some of his family live on the west coast. My mindset about the whole thing is...YOU ARE HERE ...that was the biggest obstacle; we made it so now I'm a happy camper...all else will come in due time.

Wow!!! A big congrats...It is worth the wait. You will get texts and emails tonight or early hours of tomorrow. Good luck...The wait now starts...Lol. fingers crossed.
Thanks! I definitely learned about waiting from the K1 process. My fiancé (now hubby) wasn't here and that was very trying...thank God he's here now so it's just a matter of the EAD. Best wishes to everyone!

Well well well...my check cleared today ...although I haven't received my NOAs yet I'm glad to know that the process has officially begun! Writing a check was the best move after all LOL

Almost makes me wish I sent a money order instead of check...I hate watching an waiting for a check to clear in my account LOL

Thank you! I was wondering why it was taking so long too...they reroute it.

Hello All,
I mailed my husband's AOS packet on 3/2 and it was recv'd (can't remember exact date at the moment...but what I want to know is if USCIS uses the same WAC# that was used when going through the K1 approval process to update status? or will a new number be issued?

I sent the copy that the doctor gave to my husband. I believe they collected the original in the sealed envelope either at his interview or entry point...not sure which.

Hello All,
I am preparing to submit AOS packet for my husband who came to the US from Nigeria. He was given a CD of his chest x-ray stapled to the copy of his medical exam results. Should I send that with the packet as well? He said that the doctor said it was for him but I don't want to miss anything.
Thanks in advance!

Just wanted to come back and say thanks for everything thus far! My fiance entered the US on Friday POE Chicago where he had another very brief interview and then finally landed in Florida where we live. All I can say about this journey is wow...so thankful we made it. The journey is not over but at least he's here! Next is become the Mrs. and more paperwork! From what I've read he can't get a SSN or driver's license without his GC so we are in transition and adjustment stage now...hopefully not for long.
-
Wow! What a great time! I wish you both lots of happiness!
Tasha
Thank you!! He entered Friday! POE was Chicago where they gave him another brief interview and then finally to Florida where we live. We are so happy and so far so good. Long road ahead to get the rest of the process done; working, and driver's license but we've made it this far! He's here and next is becoming Mrs.!

Do you have the visa in hand already?
Yes...he's entering the U.S. on Friday.

Well the red flags I see i your case are:
- Meet once for only 6 days
- Meet in another country
- Never been to Nigeria.
- Haven't meet family
- Married before with kids (looks like a least one young child) and doing a fiance visa
- Although not terrible age gap 9 years and you a parent f 3 is a big difference
You doing a fiance' Visa and having children can be looked at as you aren't sure about marrying him. And 6 days to make a lifetime decision. Why Dubai? Meeting the parents and family is vital to the African Culture.
You truly need to get back over there. When was your first meet?
Out of curiosity why would #5 be an issue? I was married before and have kids from the marriage but that never came up at all in interview.
I don't think the short trip is the issue...more so that it wasn't in Nigeria with family and no pics to show.
