  1. I bought my husbands ring while still in Canada, picked out my dress (and ordered it online and had it delivered to my sis-in-laws house), got my fiance to talk to people in town about good/reasonable photographers and booked one when I saw her work online. Browsed around for invitation ideas online (my sis-in-law is a graphic designer so she whipped them up for me in advance and just put in the date when we knew it was going to be for sure). I did some marriage prep from Canada (we got married in the Catholic church). Word of mouth is the way to go so talk to your future in-laws, they will be able to ask around for good caterers, etc. I arrived 2 months before our scheduled wedding date, and good thing i couldn't work at the time because planning a wedding for the 120 guests that we had (small town  ) was definetly my full time job for the 2 months before!

    Good luck!

  2. Hi All,

Well, everything went smoothly yesterday. We showed up at 10am for our 10:30am interview. There are bathrooms at the end of the hall, so that was nice in comparison to the Vancouver embassy! The guards in the front are nice and didn't want to see anything for id except our folders to put through the scanner. We then went into a waiting room that had a basket for interview letters outside the door (to the left side of the door) - make sure you put your letter in the basket or else you will be waiting for nothing (alot of people forgot to put their letter in).

Waited until 11:10 to actually be called. We were sworn in, asked to verify name, addie, ssn. We had a really friendly lady who asked then to see all the joint information that we had to give her. So I just gave her a bunch of copies of everything I had as major proof. She didn't ask any q's about any of it. She did ask when we opened our joint acct, how we met in detail, and how many people (and who) were at our wedding, where our ceremony was. She then said that my name check had went through so she could stamp my passport today. She crossed out the "1 year" part of the stamp and made it only for 60 days so that in that time I should be getting the real card and if not, to come see them through infopass! So it sounds like Portland still gives out the stamp.

Thanks to ALL for all your help - looks like all the couples there had lawyers and we just waltzed right in with a couple folders and away we went with a bunch more $$ saved and a greencard stamp in hand!:thumbs::dance: So thanks to all!

  3. I'm not familiar with that embassy, but some embassies won't schedule the interview until package 3 is sent back to them. So, he could just delay sending back his pkg 3 until he gets his police check. But, if he has an interview without having the police check with him they will probably make him wait until he can provide it to them before giving their approval. Good luck

  4. I'm not worried about getting there, I've got oodles of friends and fam out west! Fingers crossed they don't change their minds and switch me to Montreal!!! :)

I would wait it out to see, and if worst case senario, just have a family members name (since you said that they live in BC) and address to be ready just in case you can blow this out as a 'transfer' case.
