  1. They don't have DS-11s and what is N-600? Lol If the parent becomes a citizen before the child turns 18, they are considered children of a US citizen and thus, they are too, US citizens. But it doesn't happen automatically. You need to fill out a form and show them the date you became and citizen so you can prove they weren't yet adults. Problem is, I don't know where to do this?
  2. Hello!!! So my Oath ceremony is 9/13. I have two minor children, who will derive citizenship from me. Obviously only I, the adult, is taking the Oath the letter states bring all Green cards/Visas/any document that USCIS has issued you related to your alien status. Ok... what about the kids' green cards? I would think no (?) Because this is about the adult but I thought I would ask. Also, after your Oath, what paperwork do you fill out to get your minor kids the derived citizenship? To clarify: yes the minors become citizens when the adult becomes one but it is not magically updated somewhere. There is paperwork the adult citizen has to fill out, just like if you had a baby with an American and they got citizenship from the parent. Any idea what kind of paperwork and where you file that? TIA
  3. **Update** My Oath ceremony has been scheduled for September 13th 2023. My interview was 7/27/23 Btw I requested a legal name change. I know there were rumors about legal name changes make things take longer. Not true (the IO said the same thing) and my interview is in front of a judge but not in a courthouse.
  4. Congratulations!!!!!! I am still waiting on an Oath date. Ok its only been 2 weeks but it is the first thing I check when I wake up in the morning 🤣🤣
  5. That us SO useful!!! Thank you SO much for this!!! I should be having the ceremony in September. I cannot wait!!
  6. Oh shoot!!! I better get a passport then to have proof of citizenship lol.
  7. I am not saying it was denied I am saying there is paperwork that needs to be done to get the kids to be citizens. As in, you send in paperwork to prove your citizenship status and their info and ask that they are declared US citizens through derision. Then you must send in their green cards and get them passports. They won't be denied but the system won't automatically list them as citizens. You must do the legwork
  8. Small correction: it is not "automatic". They are eligible to file for naturalization as "derived from a parent". There is still paperwork to be done and cases to be filled. Just like if you had a baby with a US citizen in another country, you had to do some paperwork to get the baby a US citizenship. Same with children whose parents became citizens before their 18th bday. According to my lawyer, it is a misconception it is an "automatic" process
  9. Hello again! So I requested a legal name change with my N-400. Passed interview and now I am waiting on my Oath date. From what I gathered, I will take the Oath, turn in my green card(s), get a certificate of naturalization with a photo and my new name, correct? Then what do I do? I mean, in your personal experience, in what order do I go about changing the name in everything? (And I do need a passport? I am not planning on traveling anywhere and my drivers license has the Star on it anyway). Can you order copies of the certificate of naturalization? Is it true that you must send the original certificate to get a passport and then trust they will return it? Do I need to let my employer know I am now a citizen? (Does it matter?) Anything else you did after you became a citizen? TIA!!
  10. My timeline was like this: 6/3/23: filled online 6/4/23: Biometrics will be reused 6/23/23: Interview scheduled 7/27/23: Interview (passed) Now waiting on Oath date. Detroit hub.
  11. Ugh the wait is killing me 🤣 Tomorrow will be 1 week since I passed my interview. The reason why I am in a "hurry" is I have twins who turn 18 years old mid-November. If I become a citizen before they turn 18, they can derive citizenship. Otherwise, they have to each go through and pay for it all on their own. I am TRYING to be patient but I keep checking my online status every day 🤣🤣
  12. Adding my time line for N-400. I have been here 7 years, with no travel at all. Original petitioner and I have divorced. He left me 6 months after we arrived here Anyhoo: Filed 6/3/23 online Detroit office. Reused biometrics. Interview 7/27/23 - Passed (very boring case file. Not even a parking ticket. Worked all 7 years etc.) Waiting on oath ceremony. I was told sometime in September or October.
  13. Congratulations to both your parents!!! I had my interview on 7/27 (so two weeks after your parents) in Detroit and they said they are all booked for August ceremonies 🤣 I am hoping for a September date.
  14. Hey everyone!! My N-400 interview is in 2 days. I am so nervous!! Nothing weird about my case. No criminal record, just a straight laced gal, worked hard, nothing funky in my past ever. Any last words of advice?? Do's and don't? Anything you wished someone had told YOU? Tia!!!
  15. Hello!! Quick explanation: this applies to *state* tax only. I do not owe any federal tax. I was working from home during the lockdown of 2020. My then job issued me a letter that certified I worked from home. However, when I filled the tax return for 2020 the following year, I was double charged state tax (working in 2 counties so I got charged tax for living in one county and working in another), buy of course, I was working from home so I should only have been charged with ONE county tax. Anyhow, I tried to fix it but they didn't reduce the amount and insisted I pay both counties' taxes. I have paid half of it and working on the other half. I need to file for naturalization NOW as my sons are turning 18 very very soon and I won't be able to include them in my application. I looked it up online but I could only find information on owing federal back taxes. I only owe state tax, which I am planning on paying of course. Before you ask, I cannot afford to pay right now but it is in the budget for the immediate future but not before my sons turn 18. My question is: will they look at your application immediately upon filing online or do I have a little time? Can I write them a letter explaining what happened and show I have paid a portion and I am planning on paying the rest soon? And to answer this potential question: no MI does not allow for an official payment plan but you can go online and pay amounts towards your debt which I have done. TIA!!!
