  1. ITIN is possible even if planning to immigrate later or in process but will not have SSN for length of time.

My husband and I did this for him for me to file married for my taxes. I also filed for I130 before applying for ITIN in March.

We also did not send his passport, but he went to Embassy and they verified passport. Each Embassy is different about this, so that will need to be checked.

But if you are doing AOS, sending original passport within country not so bad compared to out of country.

  2. You cannot file as single in the year you married. He wasn't marred in 2015, so he filed correctly - as single.

When taxes are due in 2017 between January-April for 2016 tax year, he will file as married or married filing separately.

    Nothing else to worry about.

I married on Dec 16, 2015, filed married even if only for the last 15 days of the year was I married - applies to whole year. It was also very nice tax return since husband's income didn't count since it was foreign earned. :)

  3. Supervisor review is a good thing - give it a week or two and you'll know if your case is complete. :-) Unless you forgot any papers (like we did...), then it's just not the best of news. ;)

I will confirm what Kohijiro said, supervisor review is a good thing! I called on Tuesday asking about my case ... put in supervisor review. I checked everyday... wasn't expecting anything really. I checked this evening and had my 3rd N/A. Called NVC (am so grateful for their late working hours!), I spoke with agent, he said case is complete! I will get an email next week - confirmed email address while I was at it also. So happy!!!

  4. StephLightner - I would not have brought the CENOMAR either. Based off reading the link to the PDF from Manila's US Embassy, it would not apply to you.

First, it states: CERTIFICATE OF NO MARRIAGE RECORD (if applicable) and as you are married, it wouldn't blatantly be applied to you since the document requested above it was a MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE (if applicable).

US Embassy is probably just taking additional steps since there is a lot of immigration from Philippines. You gave them the requested information and ordered the additional info, so don't worry.

BTW - As someone who lives in Colorado, I was not happy to read about the conversation of marijuana either. I would say it was out of line for the CO, but they are given such wide area to work it people accept it. I moved to Colorado 2 years ago, and have not smoked, nor been tempted. If I even tried it "once" I would lose my job. Government jobs do not allow for enjoyment of such recreation - even in Colorado.

  5. One thing to consider a bank does not require SSN, but other financial institutions might. Credit unions being one.

My husband opened an account at Wells Fargo, no SSN, and is also on my account. But we could not get him to be added to my credit union account.

If you are told need SSN ask for clarification as to why or confirm with supervisor. Credit unions have different rules than regular banks is all.

  6. As you feel guilty for not giving him a chance - ask yourself one question.

Do you want your children around a man who has already demonstrated to have a violent streak?

If you can't do it for yourself right now, since they will take time, do it for your children. In time, you will realize getting a divorce and staying away from him is the best option. People are victims of fraudulent visas all the time. He's just exceptional at it. Looking at it as your husband has passed may be the way to start moving on. Do what you need to do to keep your children and yourself safe!

  7. Agreed. Go with court house or county office marriage. My husband and I did that, it was less than $50 total and that included certified copies of the marriage license/certificate.

We went to Arapahoe County office in Littleton and able to get married and copies within 45 minutes. No hassle just husband and I. Self-solemnization is legal in Colorado and recognized by Federal.

Have a ceremony later, take care of necessities first.

Denver is good market for jobs right now.

Tell your fiance to take a look at governmentjobs.com for Colorado. May not be what he wants but lots of jobs that would meet poverty level income to get past the hurdle.

And do not delay in filing for AOS takes longer to get legal job. File for employment permit, advanced parole and etc all at once. Can include in one packet versus paying for things separately. (Please verify this, I only know this from reading VJ forums.)

If you message me, I would be happy to give you name of a temp agency who had me in job by Monday morning when I applied the previous Friday afternoon.

Nothing wrong in taking temp agency jobs to establish US employment history.

    Good luck.

  8. That said, your husband should be the one to introduce you to the neighbors. He should also take into consideration your shy personality and have you connect with others on your own terms. In addition, he should have had the foresight to buy you clothes for when you arrived here. You left everything behind to be with him. He should be doing everything in his power to make you happy.

I think the part you are missing her husband and family all lived in Greece. They all moved together, so he wasn't here without her to prepare for her arrival necessarily.

But he should definitely respect her personality and be supportive of her.

  9. Tell your husband you transposed countries not personalities.

Now as for clothes and etc lots of good places listed. If you have Ross and Marshall's nearby can't hurt to look.

Focus on clothes that you are comfortable in, good for interviews, and eventually work. Lazy day clothes - jeans and T-shirt with those flip flops. (If that's your preference.)

I would despise going to the coffee thing.... but it may be worth it for connections for jobs. Look at it that way. Sometimes it's who you know in smaller areas. They may have great leads and references. When you know going to that social outing may help with a job, it puts it in a different perspective.

As for baking and etc for neighbors. Tell your husband to do it if he wants it done. You have more important things to do. Get familiar, adapt and get job to support the family.

But definitely talk to the him, tell him to back off and let you adjust and focus on self and job hunting.

  10. One question for my husband is asking for his ex-wife birth date. He divorced over 15 years ago, and cannot remember the date. He is trying to find out- his ex-father in law is asking the ex to find out if she okay giving it out.

If they do not agree to provide it, any idea how to proceed? I'm more than okay putting 01/01/1900 and eventual include a statement.

The date is not listed on the final divorce decree either. It's a single page in UK so that resource is not available to us.

    Thanks.
