military-wife reacted to aaron2020 in uni/college scholarships
You can receive college financial aid and scholarships. These are not prohibited means tested benefits.
For financial aid from the federal government - you have to wait until you get a green card.
For private scholarships - depends on the scholarship as to whom are eligible.

military-wife reacted to Idd1989 in August 2015 Filers
Good morning! It's funny how I got e mail that my card is being produced and at 10 pm that my case is approved. How long does it take to mail it and how long EAD is valid for?
Now new stress, finding a job and trying to evaluate my degree.?

Only email/text I have ever received was for my case numbers, it's been quiet since then. I use an app that checks the status of my three cases for me so that I don't have to go into the USCIS website everyday. So yeah, I only get case updates from their website, no email or text.

Funny, suddenly can log in again. When I logged in my case had been updated that my card had been ordered! Maybe they watch these forums and spy on us?!?!?

you should call USCIS and inquire if it's legit or not to be safe.

military-wife reacted to Dave & Mong in AOS Approved!! No RFE's
My wife's case was approved today without us getting an RFE. I heard alot of people having to redue the medical due to length of time, but that wasn't needed for us luckily.

If you peruse the U.S. Constitution, what you will not find in it is some particular 'right' that your foreign born spouse be by your side 24/7, in the US, no matter what. I am not sure why so many apparently uninformed USCs believe otherwise. Visas are privileges, not a right. Admission to the US is not automatic to an alien just because they are married to an American citizen. That is the way it is under our laws.

Our minister understood that getting our documents were important and gave us the choice of doing it ourselves or letting her file. To top it off our local law states the paperwork must be returned within five days of the wedding and copies are given fast. We trusted our minister to handle it, and went four days after the wedding to the clerk, and easily obtained the copies. It is something that is best discussed with the person that will be marrying you as every state and county is different.

Processing times are quicker the quicker the signed license gets back to the office for processing, the only time location matters is if say you're far off and it takes time for the signed liscense to get back to the office, but if you're in the same city, you can take the signed license down yourself if you want, the processing time would be how ever long it's taking them to process them that day.
If you get married on a weekday, it'll process faster than on a weekend because they're closed on the weekends.
Also, remember, every city/county/parish has different rules. While some may have gotten theirs back the same day, others may have taken a couple of weeks. It's best to ask where ever you're filing it at the estimated times and if marrying in the courthouse affects it.

I was aware of BAH, that definitely helps. I'll look into the ID though. Thanks so much!

Curious, what does MUST in this context here mean? Regarding converting your Canadian license specifically correct? If you were just immigrating here, they are not demand everyone to get a license w/in 60 days correct? Cause that would seem odd.

Yes you should apply for the AP/EAD at the same time that you apply for your AOS. The AP/EAD is a card that will take approximately 2-3 months for USCIS to issue.
The EAD will allow you to work in the US and the AP allows you to travel back and forth to Canada. Realize that you will have to be paroled in every time that you come back into the US. This means that you will have to go into secondary and wait while they take your photo and fingerprints as well as stamp your passport.
You will not be allowed to work in Canada while he is gone. I believe and someone else can correct me on this, that if you do work/reside in Canada while waiting for your AOS approval that this will be considered abandoning your application.
Hopes that this helps a little bit.
