I know this is silly, but I remember the visa process felt like forever! I'm glad it took only 1 year and 5 months! Through the struggle, my husband and I tried to make the best out of it! Here's a silly video I made for my husband on his birthday while we were in opposite sides of the world!

Ok, thanks. That doesn't sound to bad as of now.

what to do mean by sponsor? to be your husband's household member?
because you can't petition your mother in law for a GC. your husband must file for his mom if he is a USC. as the petitioner he is the primary sponsor and will need to fill out the i864, if he doesn't make enough to cover her, you can be his household member, fill out the i864A to combine income
So if he petitions her, how long can it take?

I am planning to sponsor my mother in law. How long does the process usually take?

No such thing as NCLEX-NY. It is a international test, it is either NCLEX-PN or NCLEX-RN. You don't need experience from Philippines in order to get a job in the USA, that is only for work visas from Philippines. I would have said person start applying at all hospitals. We don't do the volunteer thing here in America, You are now in the USA not Philippines.
I'm saying NCLEX-NY because he took his license for NY. Yes, you can take the exam internationally, but you need to take it for a specific state. Didn't think anyone would take is so technically, since this is a visa site not nursing site.
He doesn't need to have experience from the Philippines to get a job in the USA, but most American hospitals or organizations PREFER experience.
Obviously, I know we are in America that's why I asked for advice on what he can do, since he just immigrated.
Thanks for your answers I already know about

I'm most concerned about those people who are intolerant of immigrants and minorities coming out of the woodworkkk to feel free to harass us. However, I want to be wrong, I want everyone who is against Trump to be wrong. I want him to prove us so wrong that he has actually made America "great again".

Your welcome just have him apply anywhere that has to do with health care and nursing, it's such a good job field and definitely a high demand for work.
My husband travels next week and I worry about the same and he's willing to take a job anywhere just to be able to work
Congratulations on his visa approval and good luck with everything!!

What about at a nursing home or rehab center?? I know a nursing degree is higher than a cna but he will need to get job experience first.
Even a in-home nursing job
Thanks! I'll suggest that to him. He's been applying to major hospitals, so I think starting small in his situation is a better idea!

Does he have any specific special training? Perhaps going back to school for a year and getting something could help him more?
I hope he can land a position somewhere soon. Best of luck to you both.
Thanks!
As far as I know, he had special training in Intravenous and Phlebotomy but I think student nurses learn that while in school (?).
I'll suggest going back to school if its within our budget. I'm also wondering if there is volunteer nursing in the States or any programs like that.
We are really confused on what to do because we aren't familiar with ways to have him experience Nurse life in America.

Hey guys,
My husband arrived last September from the Philippines, and now he's looking for work as a Nurse. He passed the NCLEX-NY. He has 2 years experience in hospitals only in the Philippines. He's been applying for jobs in NY, and so far just has one interview. He's willing to volunteer as a nurse, but we don't know where to look.
Can anyone give me advice on what he can do to build up his resume.

I just came to say my husband is finally here! To me this is the end of the journey, now that we're finally together everything in the immigration doesn't matter to me for now.
I just want to thank you dwheels for making this topic. This has given me the information I needed to guide me through the journey. I'm especially grateful for the support I gotten during my fustrations, impatience, and heartbreak through the journey. I hope you all a speedy and smooth journey from here on out. And if you may have bumps in the road, remember the journey will still have its happy ending...

To those who been waiting and waiting for a CC or interview or any response from uscis/nvc/embassy.... I've been there. It's agitating and heart breaking, but it'll be over soon... this visa journey will usually have a happy ending. PROMISE

Oops didn't mean flight booked. I meant husbands flight is on Aug 31. We booked it around the end July when we knew his interview ?
We took the risk to book a flight against immigration advice. Thankfully everything went alright.

How old can the pictures be? We have 2 left from the first time we went pictures to the USCIS in February? Is it better to get new ones for medical and interview?
How did you guys go about the airplane tickets? Did you wait till approved at the interview?
Hey E&E. I think its safer to get new pictures for medical and interview. Just in case they tell you to turn around and have a more recent photo taken. My husband gave pictures of him with a buzz cut but before interview shaved his his hair and went in as a skin head (ew! i know), and so the person looking at the ID photo wasn't satisfied with the contrast difference so he went and took a new photo at a nearby booth. But that's just our ridiculous experience lol.
The moment my husband received his interview date we already went and booked a flight because I was too excited.
Our timeline:
Interview: Aug 15
Received visa: Aug 19
Flightbooked: Aug 31

One never knows, FxL. If 10 international flights come in at the same time, then 2 hours might not be enough time. If your husband's flight is the only one landing in a particular time slot, he might have lots of time on his hands.
He'll have to go through the primary immigration line first - and then go to "secondary" where his paperwork will be examined, and the officer will enter the information into the system.
Then he'll have to go collect his luggage (which should have already arrived and be going round and round on the carousel), clear customs, and then re-check his luggage at the counter just outside the customs hall.
Depending on his airline, he'll probably have to go from the international terminal to the domestic terminal and go through security again.
So it could be a little tight if he gets hung up in the first steps.
But don't despair! We got through JFK's immigration process in 15 minutes!
It really depends on the volume of people coming through at the same time.
Best of luck to him - and congratulations to both of you!
Sukie in NY
Wow, thanks for all the information! He's most likely to miss his flight but it's our fault for being too excited. Well, this journey will have a happy ending no matter how much longer he takes to land in JFK

My husband will have a 2 hour layover at LAX for his POE. Is that enough time to reach his flight to JFK airport?
How long does the interview and luggage check take? -

My husband received his visa 3 days after his interview and we had out flight booked before his interview! But this is just our experience...

During my husband's interview they asked,
Who were L & D? He answered "My parents in law"
What do you do?
Where does your wife live in NJ?
Do you miss your wife?
So simple!
