  1. Hi everyone! For those of you who have completed the 864, how did you know which version to use? Some are pretty obvious (child, widow...) but how did you choose between the I-864 and I-864ez. I read the conditions for both and both seem applicable to us. Our situation: for a spouse, single sponsoring, income from being self-employed (with the usual properties such as a car/owner of house with mortgage). Can someone please help?

Use the I-864EZ I am the only sponsor on our petition... my income only...and that is the one they say to use. If you are above the poverty line you actually don't have to put any assets. We are way above that so no assets are need to be on the form. You can if you want to just to ensure you are over the poverty guidelines. I don't have the link but there are instructions and it tells you if you can use the form I-864EZ or if you have to use the I-864.

    Good luck on your journey.

  2. This may be a stupid question, but did you read the department of state website that explains it? If you are needing a joint sponsor then you won't be filling out the I-864EZ. So it's a matter of if you do the I-864 or the I-864W.

You can only do the I-864EZ if you the petitioner is the only sponsor. That is the one I am using and it is the easier of the forms. I originally thought I had to use the I-864 but I don't have to.

If you have a sponsor then yes you have to chose the other forms

  3. I got notification today that my approved petition has been sent to the NVC! I wonder how long before NVC receives it? Maybe i'll call on Thursday to see if they did.

Anyone know if case and IIN's are being assigned at 2-3 weeks or if it's taking longer?

Wooohoo...They should have it in about a week then you wait for them to assign your case number. Ours only took 15 days from the time NVC received our case. Give it about two weeks then start calling them!

  4. Hello everyone. I will be mailing my documents to NVC this week. Just wanted to ask if we have to write the case number on every document or not? Also, is it okay if we write it with a pen?

Please share your experience. Thanks :)

We have had a small delay but hope to get our packets off this week as well

From what I have read about the process and on this forum yes put your case number on every document you send in.

  5. I've been hearing that Nebraska is processing I-30's in about five months. Our five months were up Jan 18 (yeah, Aug 18 filers/Nebraska). I haven't heard anything from them yet. I'm so excited and nervous and scared. I'm wondering if they could possibly issue a RFE this far into it. And why when I go to "check my status" does it still say "We received your petition on Aug 18 blah, blah, blah..." Is there a more accurate site? This is nerve racking. We were denied at the I-29 fiancé interview and I want this to go quickly yet as we get closer and closer to interview time I get anxiety and am so fearful because of our first disappointing experience.

We were in the same boat as you with the K-1 and yes it causes anxiety in a massive way. You will have your approval very soon. I tell my husband daily everything will work out great this time around...all we can do is pray!

The only place you can check is the USCIS website or call them. Good luck with your journey.

Oh I hope that's true!! mine was approved last wed, 1/13. I haven't gotten the "sent to dept of state" notification or update on the site yet. maybe any day now.

You should get that any day now. It took ours a week to leave USCIS and then NVC received four days later.

  6. Oh okay. My documents are almost ready for the package. I'm waiting for the case number now. I will be going to india in two weeks, hopefully by then I will have my case number. I pray we don't have to wait longer now. Once you send the packages it's only 45 days to complete the case. Those 45 days can go quicker as we will know we are almost close to the interview. Good luck to us.

Yes good luck to us!!! Have a wonderful trip.

  7. I hope so!!! Reading the NVC forum, it seems 45 days is what's needed to get a CC from when they scan the AOS and IV package. I want my case & IIN numbers so I can at least get my stuff done. I'm hoping the the backup was just from the Christmas and New Year's holidays and they are able to get caught up and get things moving again.

You will have your case and IV number soon. Yes you are correct about the 45 days. It started out at 30 then 40 and now NVC is saying 45 days to CC from scan date. I am hoping to send out our packets Monday....fingers crossed.

Start gathering all your paper work now so you will be ready when the time comes. Actually it's not a lot of paperwork that goes into the AOS and IV packet. Just double and triple check everything before you send it in. I have done that a few times already. When you get your welcome packet from NVC you will see a checklist in there. Use that as a guide to make sure you have everything.

  8. I know I think potomac is working very slow since it's a new center. I'm glad that nvc finally received it. Hopefully it goes faster now. Let's see how long will it take to get the case number now...

You will have your case number soon.

It seems like everything goes fast at NVC. We have been there 1 month already and it doesn't seem like it. I need my husbands police report then we can file our AOS and IV packets. Everything is a process with the petition.
