  1. dwheels76, please help if you can, I'm freaking out a little bit. My interview is coming up on August 20th, and I only have a scanned copy of my husband's divorce decree from his previous marriage. My divorce decree from my previous marriage is fine - it's original and apostilled, but neither my husband nor his ex-wife have an original of this document, and neither of them are in the country to request an original. Will it be fine if I just take the original of my decree, and the scanned (not certified!) copy of my husband's decree?

How did it go? Holding thumbs that all was okay!

My interview was yesterday morning and was relatively speedy; approved and saw on ceac site that the visa has already been printed!

  2. Thanks - likewise!

And yes, totally agree, so relieved. I told my husband the other day that if the only thing our attorney got right during this whole process was to get us through NVC with no checklists, I would happily forgive him all the other unnecessary stress he caused us. So, looks like all is forgiven!

Have you called the NVC yet to ask them about interview dates? I did, and I got a really cryptic answer. The convo went something like this:

Me: Can you please tell me when I'm likely to get an interview date?

Rep: But you only just got case complete a week ago.

Me: I know, I'm not expecting to have the date already, I'm just trying to find out when it's likely to be - an estimate.

Rep: Well we only schedule interviews a month in advance.

Me: So when will you be starting to schedule interviews for the Johannesburg consulate?

Rep: I already told you, ma'am...a month in advance.

    Me: *silence*

    I just can't even.

I haven't tried calling yet; figured I'd give them a go around July 20th, 2 weeks after, and see... Doesn't sound like your call was even slightly fruitful!

  3. Congratulations for being able to shuffle another few steps forward in the queue. Welcome to the group, good to see you here :)

Man, I hope we don't have to wait too long for an interview date! Seems the average for the South African embassy is around 50 days from CC to interview, so I'm hoping that's the case with me too.

Have you checked the spreadsheet to see what the average is for London?

Fingers crossed/holding thumbs it's quicker for you :)

Haven't checked it properly; fiddly to do so on tablet so will have a look on computer tomorrow.

Just pleased to not be worrying about more checklists ;)

  4. YES!!!! *high five*

Still have to phone to confirm my CC - so happy for you...YAY :)

*high five* back! Soooo pleased, the operator - Darcy - was actually really nice and sounded pretty happy. We had fun when I couldn't say the word 'beneficiary' and she said to hold tight for a while and around 7 days time should receive the email notification also, with interview being most likely around September though it's obviously down to the embassy to arrange/decide.

    Woohoo!!

  5. I tried calling the (603) 334-0700 number this morning to see if they have received our case from the California Service Center. Got a recording saying that due to heavy call volume that all agents are busy and to try and call back later. Then the call ends. Is there another number I can call?

Just keep on calling over and over, you'll get through eventually; best time to call is 6:59am Eastern Time

  6. Thanks PeteandJoe. I'm over the embarrassment now. Going to collect myself and get ready to call again on Monday for my CC. The champagne is chilling in the meantime :)

Great plan! I'll get the Pom-poms ready to cheer!

The past few months have been difficult here In general - ill family member getting worse, passing away and the horrible stuff that comes with it being stuck in the middle with quarrelling relatives - so it'd be great to get some good news, for any of us!

  7. Exactly the same thing happened to me yesterday. When she told me again that she had no idea how much longer it would take, I burst into tears (couldn't help it, how embarrassing). The rep was very sweet and tried to reassure me that it would be done soon, but I was beyond the ability to talk at that stage so I just said thank you and goodbye, and hung up. I feel sorry for anyone who isn't 100% emotionally, mentally or physically. You have to be made of stone/steel to get through this process in one piece.

It's very rough, you shouldn't feel embarrassed for crying though, totally understandable :)

  8. NVC phone reps have a new trick:

"Let me transfer you to a case specialist."

And you're back on hold for another half an hour.

Ha! I think that's what they did to me, I asked to speak to a supervisor and was put back into the hold queue you get at the beginning :D

Was unable to speak to a supervisor however a very friendly operator (I think her name was Daisy) spoke with her manager and said they were going to review the case on Monday/Tuesday next week.

Could easily have been something just to get me off the phone, but will call a week tomorrow and see.

  9. Yes, it's definitely closed - see Saylin's post at the top of the thread. I'm going to call this morning and try to speak to a supervisor before the holiday. Every time there's a holiday they use it as an excuse for the backlog for weeks afterwards, so I'm hoping to get my CC before Friday! What's your scan date?

Holding thumbs for all of us!!

May 6th for the checklist stuff scan date, it was really a very minor thing as well.

I didn't read the post at the top mentioning closed days, sorry Saylin!

  10. Happy July everyone. My third month here (SD May 8th, 54/30, 16th day of supervisor review).

I'm going to start it with a bang by calling NVC this morning (7:58 EST) to find out if I have my CC yet. Someone else I'm in contact with just got her CC (May 18th, CC June 28th), so I'm feeling hopeful.

Good luck to all of us who are still waiting!

Good luck to you too! Fingers crossed/holding thumbs for good news for you! I'm going to call again tomorrow, we went into supervisor review just three days before you guys.

My fella has this Friday off work because of Independance Day, just worth noting in case the NVC is closed for the public holiday, couldn't see online.

  11. Firstly, I am the beneficiary in this case, and I'm in South Africa, so contacting state representative is not an option for me. My husband is the USC, and he is in California, but he works 12 hours a day sometimes 7 days a week so not possible for him to do either. But from what I have seen here, contacting your congressman rarely does any good. I think the statistic I saw is something like 92 000 congressional enquiries last year alone, so with that high volume of enquiries, it's not likely to do any good. I have come to the sobering conclusion that there really is not much, if anything, you can do to make your case go faster, apart from making sure that all your paperwork and supporting documents are there and presented in the correct way. Apart from that, just wait wait wait and try not to go completely crazy in the process

    Yup, what PeteandJoe said :)

Is it me, or do these days seem to now have more hours in them to wait?

Will be nudging them this Friday myself. Wish I could be there in person to poke them with a stick and yell *HURRY UP!*

    ;)

  12. Im also confused about the supervisor review too, idk how that works ??? my SD after checklist may 13,but yesterday when i called the rep told me he was gonna put me for the supervisor list. So the 42 days are from yesterday or after we completed the reg 30 days ????

The 42 day supervisor review begins the day they put you in for it, so yours would have started yesterday. You'll have to ignore the regular 30 day process and start again with the 42 days.

It is possible that they'll get it done before the 42 days but given recent slow progress, I doubt it ?

  13. Can someone give me insight on what NVC means by supervisor review? Is this just the normal review they do on everyone's case, or is it additional review? I'm confused!! :protest:

As far as I know, the case gets assigned to a supervisor who will review it: in our case this is because they haven't looked at it in the timeline that they initially gave.

It adds up to 42 days (6 weeks) to the process. You can get a case complete or checklist from this too.

  14. Well, l'm happy for you that you got through USCIS so quickly - nice to hear that awesome things do happen in this journey every now and then :)

Hugs, music - 100% in agreement there. Haven't tried screaming yet - in my current state of mind it would probably just result in some very alarmed neighbours and a trip to a quiet place in a nice, tight-fitting white jacket.

Re the supervisor - my hope is just to get some real information about my case from someone who is able to actually access it while I'm speaking to them, and hopefully tell me what's really going on. I don't know to be honest - but it's worth a try.

All the best to you too...keep in touch...let me know if anything happens on your case. Goodnight!

Of course and likewise! Goodnight! ?
