Here's my timeline. I should be getting my interview letter any day now, based on other Montreal interviewees. I've been collecting stats and I've found people get their letters between 5 and 7 weeks, most of whom received it at 6 weeks plus a few days. I'm at 6 weeks, 1 day now.

baysbaw reacted to Ontarkie in Social Assistance Concerns
No that will not cause any issues. Just to mention though her child tax credit ends the day she leaves Canada, do not let her forget to cancel it they will want it all back.

baysbaw reacted to jan22 in Social Assistance Concerns
The social assistance she is receiving is in Canada, right? I think the US immigration officer thought you were talking about US social assistance programs, which may be seen as a problem. No problem with her using Canadian systems.

I also believe that it has no bearing.
It is only the US Citizen's finances that matter.
http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-601instr.pdf
You can check there, that is the instructions for the waiver of inadmissibility, but it lists what is considered an inadmissibility, I've never heard of what that border patrol told you. I don't believe the US denies someone based on receiving assistance in their own country- that wouldn't make any sense.

baysbaw reacted to Ebunoluwa in Social Assistance Concerns
They don't care what assistance she gets in her own country. BP misunderstood and thought you meant in the US.

baysbaw reacted to NikLR in Which visa would be best for our situation?
First get a CRBA for the child then go through the pros and cons of the K1 and the CR1 (location may be a concern here as CR1 interviews are only done in Montreal while K1 are done in Vancouver and Montreal) and decide which is best for you two as a couple and as a family.
I went the CR1 route, it was better for me.
Others do the K1 route it's better for them.
I've seen 1 Canadian K3 make it through the Vancouver consulate in the 3 years I've been on this website.
K3 is rare and bascially obsolete. It's more expensive and is an inferior visa. At the time the people were already married, had 3 children (including a baby) and wanted to try for the k3 because they lived in Vancouver.
