I know you said you have a wedding date set but is it possible to push it back a couple months??? The reason I ask is you could do what some people do here and get legally married in India, then apply for K3 then have the actual wedding in the US later with friends and family. If you could get married with just the two of you then apply for K3 and set a wedding date maybe 8 months later or so and you should be safe.
Good luck in whatever you choose however I think that you will be pushing it if you stick with the December wedding. Have a look at my timeline

I went through the wait game for my K3 visa just like you are now. I wish you the best on a speedy process. Just hang in there and try to keep yourself busy. Join some clubs, rent movies, do crafts, whatever you can. I think the hardest thing for me was weekends when I had nothing to do but think about what my husband is doing.
Welcome to VJ!

Hello,
I was in the same situation of you and lost out on a couple jobs because of it. Basically all I did was keep going into the social security office to see if I was in the system or if it was updated. After about 3 weeks the lady finally said she would give them a call and I got my number the next day. You could call but I doubt that would do anything. You need to actually go in and bug them. Make sure they sent something to immigration to verify your status.
The next problem I had was my social security number not being "valid". I had a job offer at Target until I get a job in my career field (architecture) however, when they did the background check my ssn came back as invalid. Basically I found out that they just weren't updating their database and there was nothing I could do. I lost that job too and I had a ssn
I wish you the best in getting you ssn and good luck with the job offers.

As long as the AOS was filed within 1 year of your medical exam overseas then you are fine. It doesn't matter how long they take to process the AOS. All you need is your vaccination supplement.
Good luck

Congrats!! Thanks for sharing with us. I must agree in the way that they make immigrants feel. I am here legally and everytime I have to do anything with USCIS my stomach twists up and I feel like I've commited murder in the way I get treated. If they fixed the whole USCIS system with timelines/customer service maybe so many wouldn't be here illegaly lol.
I hope you get your green card soon since they cut your EAD. I have heard some people waiting 9 months which really sucks.
Congrats again!

I would tell her to come back ASAP!!!! It is possible to reschedule biometrics but as someone else said it takes 4 weeks to do that and your interview is in August. You are really putting your case at risk if she doesn't make that appointment however, if whatever is happening in her home country is more important then I see the dilema. If it were me I would fly back asap then go back to my home country with the green card stamp in my passport.
Good luck

I have a K3 visa and I am going to send in my AOS paperwork this week. They say that if you file within a year of your K3 medical you don't need to do another one. My lawyer advised me to get a vaccination supplement form filled out to be on the safe side so I am going to get that done. The doctors in Melbourne are charging $75-$100 to fill out this form but I would rather do it now then get RFE later since Orlando applications are already taking 2 years till interview.
Good luck

If I were you, I would go on the safe side of things and send in the form to change your address. Even if you have to do it twice in a few months time. You are moving states so that is a big move. If you were moving non permanent for a few months within the same state I wouldn't change it but since you are moving states I think it's a good idea.

Good luck on your interview!

Our situation is very similar.
My husband and I are also living with his parents until we get on our feet. We plan to have his mother and father write a letter saying we have been living with them From April 2006-present and they are helping us out until we are able to purchase our own home. I hope to get it notarized.
We also have a joint bank account which I am saving the monthly statements we get in the mail. They have both our names with the same address.
I signed up for Netflix so I will bring an envelope with me that shows the address too.
We don't have any health insurance. My husbands car is under just his name. So we can't really provide that kind of proof.
Other than what I mentioned, we will bring our wedding pictures, a scrapbook, birthday cards, anniversary cards, letters, and phone records.
Hope that helps,
Terri

Hello,
I am also preparing to file for AOS from what I understand the rules are changing as of July 21st for the I-865. From what I read you just have to include the 2005 tax return now. Here is the link:
http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/publicaffair...pp_062106FS.pdf
I need a co sponsor too so I think we will just be submitting my husbands 2005 tax return, my mother in laws 2005 tax return and her W-2 (she filled joint income with spouse). We will then continue to collect pay stubs and employee letters in case they are asked for later at the interview or in RFE.
If you want to be on the safe side you could send the 2005 tax return, a letter from the bank stating your balance and how long you have been there and a letter from your wifes future employer stating her salary, position and start date.
Hope that helps,
Terri

You do not need a SSN to go to the ER. I went to the ER with no SSN or insurance. They just took my name and copy of my passport and sent a bill in the mail.

Tetanus is only every 10 years so if she had one after 1996 she should be fine
Also, most boosters are 10 years too so if you got shots in 1999 shold be good till 2009.
You got a good price too!
Are chickenpox vaccines considered mandatory now? I have had chickenpox but I haven't heard good things about that vaccine so I would be concerned to give it to children.
Good luck with a speedy AOS

I am really sorry this happened to you. I am just going to put the pushing aside because it happened once and you pushed each other. I have been pushed before and I have done my own pushing which I am not saying is OK but I know it can happen to the best of couples. What I feel sorry about is the way she seemed to get you in love and then as soon as she is here without her daughter she decides to pull the controlling, disregarding your feelings #######.
I'm sorry but if you truly love your spouse then you want to be with them in your bed at night, not at a bar with your girlfriends. I am not saying you don't go out with your girlfriends but staying out till 5am without a phone call?? Seems fishy to me. I know from reading the post that there is probably more examples of her bad behaviour but you listed her staying out all night as one so that's what I am commenting on. I have read alot of cases where wives seem like a soul mate and then get to the states and clearly show they just wanted a fee ticket.
I hope the annulment goes through for you and I am sorry for your loss. I know how upset I would be if I got to the states and my husband was a completely different person.
Good luck to you!

Wow thanks for the great info Mdyoung. Mine was on the July list with a star next to it. I'm guessing from this info that means that by August I shouldn't have a problem with an "invalid SSN"? Someone in my family suggested I should go and try to get a department credit card to see if I get approved.
The reporting agency that Target uses is being difficult so I might just have to give that job up for now. They are just repeating over and over to me that my SSN is not valid and they won't listen to what I try and explain to them. I actually have the SSN Verification printout but Target is saying that if the agency says "do not proceeed" due to any SSN issue then they can't hire me.
I am also waiting on a decision from another job in my field that doesn't start till September so hopefully I get that one and I can just wait till Sept. to start working.
Thanks again,
Terri

Hello,
I got a job offer at Target to give me something to do until I get a full time job. They did a background check on me and I got the report in the mail from some reporting agency saying that my SSN in not valid. How is this possible?
Target says they can't hire me because the background check says my SSN isn't valid. I gave them the correct number. I am thinking I should go to the social security office tomorrow with the report and ask them what is wrong.
Has anyone ever been told they have an invalid SSN?
Thanks,
Terri

I really hope you get your green card soon but to be safe I would look into getting a travel permit. I have heard people on this board say it took 9 months to get their green card in the mail.
Maybe you could make an infopass to see what is delaying your greencard??

Congrats on the quick approval and great interview!

It is possible to stay in Canada for awhile while you wait for the visas however to stay the whole time might be difficult.
First of all you need to return to the states every now and then because you can only be in the country for so long. My husband was in Canada with me while I finished school. He went back once a month though to go do his weekend with the Air force reserves. He crossed the border in Niagra falls when he came back to Canada. Each time he just said "I am visiting for 3-4 weeks" and he never had a problem. He did this for about 6 months and didn't have any trouble. I don't know the actual law of how long each year you can be in a Country but you might want to look into that.
Also, you are going to need to fill out an I-864 which you have to prove you can financially support your spouse. You need to have some income for this so I'm curious how you are going to make that work or do you have a co sponsor already?
I wish you luck with being with your spouse for as long as you can. It took me 10 months from my marriage till my K3 visa was in my hand and I was with my husband for 6 of those months so we were very fortunate.

Hello,
The way I read that is you can drive on your home country license as long as it is valid. If you get a job then you must get a CA license within 10 days which shouldn't be a problem because to get a job you should have a SSN.
I'm not sure about the resident thing. The USCIS says that you are not a resident yet...
"Until the marriage takes place, your fiancé(e) is considered a nonimmigrant. A nonimmigrant is a foreign national seeking to temporarily enter the United States for a specific purpose. A fiancé(e) may not obtain an extension of the 90-day original nonimmigrant admission.
If your fiancé(e) intends to live and work permanently in the United States, your fiancé(e) should apply to become a permanent resident after your marriage."
So I would read that is until you get your green card you are not a permanent resident.
I would help you out more if I could but I'm not really sure of the laws in California. Maybe someone else who has gone through this can give more info. You also might want to try going to the license office in person. I live in Florida and went there with just my K3 visa, my passport and my Canada drivers license and they gave me a Florida license valid for 2 years.
Good luck to you.

They are both required but sometimes they will do the fingerprints at the same appointment. I have heard if you have 2 bar codes on your appointment letter then they will do the AOS and EAD fingerprints at once.

I called around in the Melbourne Florida area and the cheapest I could find was $75 which I think is rediculous to fill in a piece of paper but I don't have much of a choice. You might just have to pay whatever they want if you can't find anything cheaper.

Hello,
I went through Montreal and I think my timeline is pretty typical. Montreal is a pain in the butt to deal with. If you want to talk to them about anything I would suggest calling and even then they were never very helpfull with me. Whenever I called asking if my interview was scheduled they would always say you should be getting an interview letter in about 2 weeks which never was the case.
I wouldn't suggest emailing them because of the length of time it takes to respond. I have heard others getting emails back from Montreal in a few days though.
I don't think you would be able to move your case along any quicker. I'm not sure about this however maybe you could go back to Packistan and then just fly to Montreal for your interview? Other than that I would agree with StuckinCanada and see if you can have your student visa transfered to a visitor visa.
Good luck to you!
HELP! EAD RETURNED; NOT DELIVERABLE!
in Working & Traveling During US Immigration
Posted
That really sucks that they didn't deliver it. I really hope you get your new one soon. I had no idea you need to put your name on your post box. We don't have our name on ours and my EAD and immigration notices always reach us.
After reading this thread, I am starting to think I should go put my name on the mailbox incase our regular mail girl is off or moves the day I get something from USCIS.
Good luck to you!
