You need to pay for the fingerprints and the I-765....
Kezzie
Ok thanks.
I just sent out the application and when I got home I realized that my lawyer was once again WRONG. He told me to make the money order out to USCIS and I was just reading up and saw that it should be made out to the Department of Homeland Security.
GRRRR this is so frustrating. Does anyone know what will happen now? Will they just send my application back as incomplete?

Hello all!
I said that I would let you know how the I-765 application went in Orlando. Well......my lawyer was wrong and you can not file for employment authorization at the local immigration office. The lady there told me to send all of my stuff to the Chicago lockbox. Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up
I just have a quick question....
If you were approved for your K3 and are applying for your I-765, do you need to provide a $70 money order for fingerprints or just the $180 application fee?
Thanks

I know how frustrating Montreal is lol I just went through there for my K3. Here is my timeline, hope it helps!
Packet 3 received Jan. 9 2006
Packet 3 sent back Jan 19 2006
Montreal received packet 3 Jan 21 2006
Packet 4 received March 21 2006
Interview April 20 2006
K3 visa in my hand April 21 2006
I had also called a few times asking if I had an interview because I started to think things got lost in the mail and everytime I called they said "you are on the list and should hear back in a couple weeks". Don't get discouraged, just hang in there and I hope your interview will be soon!
-
I think my next step is to wait for the I-130 to be approved and then adjust my status. Right now I'm just trying to get my work permit and letting the lawyer worry about the rest. I am still heading to Orlando on May 1st to try and get the work permit and I'll let you know how it goes.
Oh another interesting thing....at the customs poe the guy told me that I should have a green card in 6-12 months and if I don't I can contact them.
Also, I got my drivers license today in Florida!! All I needed was my K3 visa, passport, Ontario license and birth certificate and they gave me a vision test and took $20 and boom I have a license.
I'll keep you updated

Hello,
I just wanted to let you all know that I was approved for my K3 in Montreal on April 20th. The interview was super easy and I didn't have any problems. I went back to pick up my visa on April 21st and then I flew into Orlando on April 22nd.
My next step is getting my work permit and SSN and then getting to work!
I am going to try going to the local office in Orlando on May 1st to apply for my EAD because my lawyer seems to think I can get it issued in one day there. I will let you all know how that goes too.
Thanks to everyone for helping with my questions!

I always crossed the border in Ontario and nothing ever came up when they scanned my passport however, they always asked the same old questions
"where are you going?"
"who are you staying with?"
"what is your relationship to this person"
"have you started any immigration paperwork? Do you have proof of that?"
I always answered honestly and never had a problem crossing over.

Hello,
Every letter I get from Montreal has my Maiden name in the address and Dear .......
I have filled out every form using my married name and my passport is in my married name. Should I be concerned about this? Why aren't they using my married name when they send letters to me?
I want my visa to be issued in my married name since I have changed over everything from my drivers license to my passport already.
One more quick question for anyone who has their K3 and is living in the US now. Can you get a drivers license with a K3 visa? My Ontario (Canada) license expires in June 2006 and I have my interview in Montreal on April 20th. Will I be able to get a new license in the states when I get there or will I have to go back up to Ontario to renew my license in June?
Thanks for your help

You can leave as soon as you have it. My interview is in Montreal on the 20th too! I am taking a bus down to Florida from Montreal and it leaves April 21st at 11pm. I figure I will have my visa in hand by 4pm on the 21st so it shouldn't be a problem to leave that night.

Hello,
Well I finally got an interview date in Montreal for April 20th!!!! I just have a couple questions for anyone that has gotten a K3 visa from Montreal recently.
When do you actually get the visa? The paperwork says it will not be available before 3pm the next day. Does that mean I could go at 3:30pm and get it?
Are there any cheap hotels within walking distance or short cab ride? The cheapest I have found is $80 Canadian.
Thanks

Hello,
Congrats on getting your packet 3 back. I think the wait will be a little longer then 2 weeks for you. Montreal received my packet 3 on Jan. 23 and I just got my interview date yesterday for April 20th. Here is a quick timeline since I don't know how to make it post every time I post lol:
Mid October - applied for K3
January 9th - packet 3 received from Montreal (it was dated Dec. 19th)
Jan. 21 - Sent back packet 3 checklist
Jan. 23 - Montreal received packet 3 checklist
March 24 - Interview date received
April 20 -Interview
Good Luck to you and hope this helps

Ok, thanks for your help! I will definately apply through the mail for my EAD which should be Chicago dropbox since I will live in Florida. My lawyer messed up once again
That is 2 times now!
-
Well darn, my lawyer got my hopes up. I did ask him again about getting the EAD in 1 day and he said yes. However, it takes 80-85 days to get an appointment at the Jacksonville office.
Sorry about the confusion, I thought it was going to be easier than it is.
-
Hello,
I asked my lawyer a few weeks ago about how I get my SSN once I get my K3 visa. He told me to get the EAD through form I-765 with the local immigration office. He told me to book an appointment on-line using INFOPASS and if you go in person, they will issue your EAD the same day. I have to go to Jacksonville once I have my K3. Then, after you get your EAD, you apply for a SSN which takes 2-3 weeks.
I don't know why people are waiting 3 weeks for their EAD!!! That is crazy....just go apply in person.

Just to answer your question about time from receiving packet 3 to the interview in Montreal.....I got my packet 3 on Jan. 9th, I sent it back Jan. 20 and I am still waiting for an interview date. I called last week and they said they are booking into Mid April right now and my interview will probably be the end of April-Early May.
-
That is great! Congrats on getting to Montreal and hopefully you have a faster interview then I do.
My case was sent to Montreal in December. I received packet 3 Jan. 9 and returned in Jan. 20. I still do not have an interview date. I actually called them a couple days ago and they said they are now scheduling interviews for mid april and I should expect to have one at the end of april or early may.
Keep us updated on your case!

Hello,
I was just curious if anyone has an interview for their K3 visa scheduled soon in Montreal? They said they received my packet 3 on Jan. 28th and I still do not have an interview date
I am planning on going on my honeymoon April 8-13 and I am starting to get worried I will get booked during those dates.
Thanks for your help!

I am sorry for your loss, that can be really hard on a couple
I would not worry about the doctor asking you that. It's good that you answered honestly though. I have not read anywhere that miscarige has anything to do with immirgration. It is definately not a threat to public health or anything like that.
Could have been a question to see if you were lying but nothing to worry about it.

I also live in Canada and am waiting for my K3. I have been travelling back and forth to Florida almost a year now with no problems (I cross at Queenston/Lewiston near Niagra Falls). They always ask me what I am doing and where I am going. I say I am going to the airport to fly to florida so I can visit my husband for a couple weeks. Sometimes they ask me if I intend to live in the US and if I have filed any petitions. I say "yes I intend to live here once my visa is approved and I have filed an I-130 and I-129" They almost always ask to see my return flight ticket.
The only time I had trouble is when my husband was visiting and we were driving back down to Florida. When we crossed the border we had to go park and enter the cutoms office. Inside, they asked us for all the proof we had that showed him I was applying for a visa and intended to come back to get it. I showed him my approval letter and a copy of the checklist I sent back to Montreal. He took it and left for 20 minutes then came back and said "you will be in big trouble if you don't come back, you understand that right?" and I said "yes sir I will come back" and then he let us go. I'm not sure what he was doing for the 20 min and if he actually looked anything up but I was really nervous.
The best thing you can do at border crossings is be very honest because they sense liars lol.
Good luck on future border crossings!

Hey,
I am from London, Ontario in Canada. I go across the border all the time so it would be impossible to list all the dates. I just put short frequent visits.
Good luck!
-
Congrats to you! I remember the permasmile when I got engaged. It lasted about 2 weeks lol. I wish you a very speedy I-130 process and all the best to you.
-
You need to get an EAD before applying for a SSN. My lawyer told me to fill out form I-765 and then make an appointment on-line at the INFOPASS website. He said if you go apply in person, you get an EAD in 1 day. He said do not mail it, go directly to the office. Once you have your EAD you just mail in an application for you SSN and it should come in 3 weeks.
Hope that helps and congrats on visa approval!

I will be flying to Montreal for my interview and I'm wondering about my x-rays I have to bring.
Are they ok in my suitcase going through the x-ray machine that checks the luggage?
I'm worried they will get ruined like camera film or security will want to open it up. My package says it needs to remain sealed.
Anyone have some guidance on this?
thanks

I sent my checklist to Montreal on Jan. 19th I think. I still haven't gotten packet 4 and from what I see on the timelines I still won't get one for another 3 weeks or so.
I think the estimate of 3-4 months seems a bit long for the time between sending back the checklist and packet 4/interview.
When I got my packet 3 dated Dec. 19th it said that the estimated time was 3-4 months from the consulate receiving my package until the interview. The way I see it is if the consulate got my package on Dec. 19th, I should have my interview by the end of April.
I would also like to hear from anyone else who recently went through Montreal.
Are you doing K1 or K3 jkage? My lawyer said they have slightly different processing times.
-
Thanks for your help guys. I did have my physical done without an interview date so I hope that is OK when I go there.
As for the packet 3....I did receive that and sent back all the required documents on Jan. 19th. I guess all I have to do now is wait for my packet 4 and interview! From the looks of most timelines I have reviewed, my packet 4 should be here around Feb. 20th and my interview should be around March 20th.
Thanks again all
