  1. Posting this in the Canada area as I feel it makes the most sense here.

My NEXUS card expired on July of 2021, however I applied for renewal and was conditionally approved in 2020. For the last couple of years, I've found it virtually impossible to find a remote interview in any capacity, and any of the in-person interviews are at places I really have no other reason to visit for. It appears that all the locations in Canada are still closed, otherwise I would have tried to get an in-person interview in Calgary as I could at least take a vacation to visit family there and knock out two birds with one stone. I also had my husband apply for a NEXUS so we can travel via the benefits together, and his application is also conditionally approved, but he wasn't a previous cardholder, so he can't use the benefits yet.

Has anyone at all had any success with getting an interview for NEXUS since the pandemic began?

  2. Oh my god, I wish this post existed back in 2016 before I moved :(

I had to sell my car before I moved because of this exact same reason– 2010 Mazda 3 without a TPMS. I eventually ended up buying a 2017 Mazda 3 down here in the US from a local dealer, and I hate it. My old car was a way better car and I loved it and had it for ~7 years... I would definitely still be driving it today if I could have brought it down.

To add insult to injury, I actually DROVE that car when visiting back in 2012 from Calgary to pretty much where I live now here in Atlanta, which took like 3.5 days to get here, to visit my then-boyfriend-now-husband, so clearly they had no issue with me USING the car down here, as long as it made its way back to Canada, which it did two weeks later, when I had to drive back home to Calgary.

I had my compliance letter in hand and everything, which said everything was good to go EXCEPT for the TPMS. It only took a couple weeks for me to receive it, and once I've done my calling around and got the same initial info as OP, I considered it a done deal and sold the car just a week before I entered on my K-1.

Hi - I am a LPR based on marriage and applied to have conditions removed a long time ago. My case status has been this for quite a while:

As of March 4, 2020, we are ready to schedule your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, Receipt Number XXXXXXXXX, for an interview. We will schedule your interview and send you a notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice.

Meanwhile, my Green card expired - and my 18 mont extension (I-797) has also expired (nearly 12 months ago!)

How do I get another extension letter? I tried calling USCIS but I cannot even get through the auto questions to find a real person.
Auto system keeps telling me to file I-90, but I think that is wrong, as my card is not 'lost' and I shouldn't be paying for a new one should I?

I-90 info says " Upon receipt of your properly filed Forms I-751 or I-829, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) shall extend your conditional permanent resident status automatically, if necessary, until such time as USCIS has adjudicated the petition." << But I have not received another extension after the first one ran out.

    Hope you can help 😀

I believe you have already got the ball rolling on an InfoPass appointment, so just a few tips:

    - Make sure to bring your expired green card and extension letter

    - Bring in any NOAs for pending cases (I-751 of course, and N-400 if you have it)

    - Don’t forget your foreign passport!

They’ll most likely confiscate the green card to be shredded, then they will put a stamp in your passport. I had to go through the exact same process as you, except I got my InfoPass appointment just a few days before my extension letter expired. Good luck!

  4. Hey all,

Became a U.S. Citizen on March 19th, and I've already done the following:

    - Obtained voter registration
    - Obtained Passport Book & Card

    - Updated citizenship status on file with current employer

I do know that I will still need to:

    - Obtain a full-fledged drivers license, but I'll do that closer to when my current one expires in October (I'm in GA if that matters)

    - Update my SSN

    A couple of questions, too:

    - Do I need a new SSN card? I already got a new SSN card when I adjusted status years ago, no longer has the "Valid for work only with DHS Authorization" wording on it, or is this just a system change?

    - Do I need to contact my banks and let them know I'm now a U.S. Citizen?

    Thanks.

  5. I wasn't sure if I should put this in the Canadian or the US Citizen section, sorry if it's in the wrong place.

So I have had a NEXUS membership before I ever moved to the US, and it's up for renewal, but this time I decided to renew it with my naturalization certificate as it satisfied two parts of the application with a single entry, but before that I renewed it as a Canadian. They didn't ask for any of my Canadian documents at all on this renewal, and they did not require me to present a US passport to renew, either. How will it be possible for me to use my NEXUS while going to and within Canada? Aren't I supposed to show my Canadian passport when going in, so I am not flagged as a visitor, when I am in fact Canadian, too?

Basically I'm just super confused as to how NEXUS works as a dualie with both countries that use it. I know that you can get penalized if used incorrectly (even if accidentally), so I want to avoid that.

Cannot travel without US passport after taking oath. That’s why they offer expedited passport service for urgent travel needs

I guess that’s their option then. Not sure why some folks make travel plans before they got all their documents lined up, but who am I to say what their reasons are. It’s easier to book a flight than it is to get a passport, I wouldn’t be booking any flights until I have mine in my possession, and I would personally be prioritizing my schedule around USCIS as best as possible always, because they’re such a pain in the ### to deal with.

Hi, did they do anything with the I-551 stamp? Like cancel it with a stamp "canceled without prejudice"? I'd be travelling after my oath and can't wait for the passport to arrive in the 6-12 weeks they advertise. Thanks

They did not. Bring your naturalization certificate with you to show that you are entering the US as a citizen if you can.

I assume you've been looking through USPS's passport appointment website? That happens on their system.

    Try looking here: https://iafdb.travel.state.gov/

if you enter zipcode, it will list all facilities nearby. From there you can go to that facility's website. Many offer walk-ins without appointments. Hope that helps.

Thanks! I ended up getting an appointment this Sunday at a public library.

Can you share your oath ceremony experience now with Covid-19?

I can. It was actually super abbreviated. All you do is show up with your completed N-445, give your green card (or reason why you don't have one to give, they asked why I didn't have one in my case (expired, already surrendered at InfoPass Appointment months prior)), then you sit down at a chair after they give you a mini US flag with a number on a post-it note attached to it. Due to social distance guidelines, only interpreters and caregivers are allowed with you, otherwise you must be alone. They asked us not to take any photos. Once they had all the chairs filled up, the lady came to the podium, explained that the oath was extremely abbreviated so no videos will be shown. All we did was repeat the oath after her, and then she congratulated us and in orderly fashion we left, while handing in our post-it note numbers to exchange for our naturalization certificate as we were leaving the room. Minus wait time to fill chairs, the whole oath took less than 3 minutes. I was in and out of the building in 30 minutes.

My journey with USCIS has come to an end, thank God 🙏🏾. My oath ceremony was this past weds in Chicago and I’m currently in the process of applying for my passport. Thank you guys for the support and the company. God speed and good luck to each and everyone of you in your future endeavors as American citizens. Congratulations 🎉🎊🍾

Congrats! Has it been hard for you to get an appointment for a new passport? I’ve been trying every day since I got naturalized and no appointments within a 50 mile radius literally anywhere.

Quick question for everyone who has gotten through this: Do you get to keep your Green Card after oath/interview? I would like to keep mine as a keepsake, hoping they don't take it away.

They will ask for it to confiscate it right before the oath ceremony. I didn't have one since I had an I-551 stamp, and they even asked me why I had a stamp instead of the card (it was expired, and they took it away when I got the stamp), and they will write the reasons you give them on the top of the N-445 you received.

Speaking of the oath ceremony, as of today, I am officially an American citizen! 🇺🇸

I got notification that my oath ceremony was scheduled. It’s been a couple days now since the notice and it’s still not showing on my profile. I guess I’ll just wait on snail mail. I’m elated at the fact that I’ll be done with USCIS.

Check again, this morning it wasn't showing for me, neither, but...

I checked this afternoon, and the online portal updated and now shows me my Oath Ceremony letter, to be sworn in on March 19th! Just under a month away! 🇺🇸

We also have a copy of the entire package ... should we resubmit it along with the additional evidence ?

Couldn't hurt. I don't remember us sending in a ton of evidence for intent to marry for our K1, I'd have to do some file digging as that was almost 5 years ago (at that point we were already dating for 5 years and had visited each other several times in both the US and Canada since we met in 2011).

Hey all, sorry if this is repeated I couldn't find it

So, we have been approved for a k1 visa since April 2020, but the moscow embassy has been shut down ever since :(

We recently applied for a tourist visa through Poland.

My question, if my fiance has no plans to stay on this visa (we really just wanna spend 3 months together as it's been 1.5 years since we have seen each other) will she still be denied?

Does anyone have experience with this?

    Thanks

It depends. There's a small chance of approval, but that depends if she can convince the CBP of your intent. Having evidence of strong ties back to originating country will help the most (i.e. lease agreements, booked tickets for some sort of event, an active job, anything that forces you to eventually go back home, etc.).

they just assigned  my husband an interview date  for March 11th and we were going down the checklist of things he needs and he just realized that he lost his greencard. we have been looking for a couple of days already. what should we. do? he needs his current greencard at the interview.

If you lost your green card, or if you suspect it could have been stolen, you should probably file a police report with your local station (don't call 9-1-1), and bring a copy of that to the interview with you, hopefully you also have a photocopy of the green card (always duplicate anything you receive from USCIS digitally, just in case). I'm not sure if you'll necessarily need to file I-90 to replace your card, but you should call to set up an InfoPass appointment to get a stamp in your passport at the very least, and the officer on the phone may advise differently. My green card was expired, and when I went in for my InfoPass appointment, they took away my green card and shredded it in front of me and gave me a stamp in my passport, which I used in lieu of the green card at the interview, which was accepted. I'm not sure if it's correct advice, but it's better than showing up empty-handed.
