  1. 60 days...sigh. Thank you! Is that when NVC estimates that they ship the case and if so will they mail a physical letter with the case number? In the Dominican Republic the consulate doesn't send out instructions, but interviews can be scheduled on the website with the NVC number. We already started it and just need that to get to the last page.... but I wish they would send the number!!
  2. Hi everyone! For those that are approved already, what is the next step? I keep reading "Wait 2 weeks and call nvc for the case number". We tried calling NVC for the case number but they aren't answering. We tried emailing them too and got back a form email that answered nothing and that you can't reply to. We need the case number to schedule the medical and interview. Do we need to just wait until they send out the paper copy - DO they send one out? Ours is about a month since approval now. I send best wishes and sympathy to everyone still waiting for the approval. I'm sorry they haven't approved you yet and hope they will as soon as possible.
  3. I was allowed in FM with my husband for everything but the actual naturalization questions.
  4. You're rigt. The post I was following and linked above said I could schedule it and that the person who wrote it scheduled their interview within 2 days. I was cautiously excited. I haven't heard back from that poster. Is this something I could ask admin to step in and correct so others aren't led down a path of false hope?
  5. MIL coming for childcare (whether you call it "getting to know her grandchild" or not) is illegal work. You could have paid someone else to do it. Lots of threads on this. If she needs medication your options have already been listed. The simplest two are to send her to her home country (imo, that's the best option since she is working illegally by providing childcare) or to get a doctor's appt, labs and a refill. You could probably do this at a minute clinic. Travel insurance doesn't usually cover standard medications. The 1 appt you would need, labs and medication is not thousands out of pocket. Ask for the minimum amount of labs required. We stopped taking stations a few mos ago due to serious concerns we had about them but when we did take them it was less than $100 out of pocket for the medication...probably much less with the cash price. Less friendly alternatives could include another person going to a different country to pick them up (we were told this is ok for "personal use"...though I wouldn't push it for another person.) ordering from an online pharmacy ie India or Turkey if you can afford to wait 2-4 weeks for the medication. I've done this several times to save $ on medication and it's fine from a reputable place. We were told statins take 8 weeks to clear your system. $75 a week for one additional adult to eat? Unless she needs extremely specific food for some health reason that seems CRAZY to me. Maybe it's the choice of food instead of the economy. Try rice, beans and chicken with some spinach/frozen broccoli and in-season fruits to save on food costs? Imo move up the travel date even if you lose the original flight. It could help her be able to return to see you guys if her visits are shorter.
  6. If she doesn't have insurance it's probably best to go to her home country for it where it will be way way less expensive. Insurance for elderly alien parents is very difficult -often impossibe- to procure at reasonable prices, especially if she doesn't qualify to be added now when she needs the insurance. In my state you'd have to wait for open enrollment if you're adding her to your insurance (if that is possible!). Plus, while she's in her home country she can wrap up all those permanent ties she has there that convinced the US to allow her to enter on a tourist visa.
  7. We were advised to and did. Worked out for us! We did have to move quickly to get evidence right after getting married. I think we waited 3 weeks though to have the marriage certificate. (Lease, will, powers of attorney, pictures, bank statements etc etc) OP, your list looks easily approvable! Best of luck.
  8. When my husband adjusted from k1 we sent as much evidence as possible trying to avoid an RFE (and we didn't get one!). People can send evidence in for AOS. We didn't have a ton but sent what we had. I can't tell from the initial post whether they sent the evidence listed originally or not. If they sent all of that in and still got an RFE they might have a problem. The OP's timeline section for AOS is blank, so it's hard to tell. If they sent just the application in then they are probably fine with sending in the new evidence.
  9. 1. Were you asked any specific evidence to provide? 2. What evidence besides this one page summary are you going to provide I'm curious too..this RFE is for more evidence. Did you submit all of these things already for the initial application and they are asking for more or is it that you didn't submit much evidence with the initial application?
  10. Telling someone not to post is against the terms of service. I noticed that you did not answer the question about whether she has been legally working or not. You certainly don't have to answer. If she has been working illegally it can be seen as claiming to be a US citizen which can cause issues along the line, complicating your case. If she has not been working illegally, that's great. You may want to consider the benefits of living in her home country as backup; but definitely follow your lawyer's instructions all the way through. If she leaves the country for any reason at this point she will be subject to a ban (I think 10 years) since she is currently in deportation proceedings; you should not need to interview from her home country.
  11. I souldn't bother with the one-pager. You probably have enough already but if you're concerned one simple thing you could add would be to draw up a will and a durable financial and/or medical power of attorney that naming the other person in case something happens to one of you. There are some forms online for free - just fill out one from your state, print and have notarized.
  12. Claiming to be a US citizen (ie working esp with a fake SSN) can affect her case, taxes or not. At this point they probably need a lawyer anyway.
  13. You have 1 year to wait out due to the alcohol issue. I'm not 100% sure on the k1 but I THINK it will be ready as soon as the 1 year and updated clean medical are up. If it were me I would abandon the k1, get married as soon as possible and let the cr1 spousal visa process while you're waiting. It is estimated at ABOUT a year's wait depending on the processing center. The spousal visa is better than the k1 in a lot of ways but it also depends on why you wanted the k1. Your choice!
  14. We hit 430 days tomorrow! ("We" being the couple I helped submit papers and am following this group for.) I'm glad we didn't put the deposit down for the Labor Day wedding we were planning
  15. I can see on the guide that there are several steps left. I'm hoping it will be done by Christmas, but I don't know how holidays might affect everything.
  16. After we finally get the NoA2, how long until the interview? I know it varies but if we were to schedule as soon as there is availability what kind of timeline would you plan for?
  17. My husband and I have specifically traveled to the DR for medical care several times. It's faster, same quality (with a little research, and esp in a private clinic) and SOOO much less expensive. We're going again this summer. The doctors are a LOT less easier to work with than US doctors and insurance, Imho. Plus, depending on how much it is you might get your own insurance there.
  18. If you want to be in the DR there are EXCELLENT doctors in the Dominican Republic that are fluent in English. Way less expensive than the US, too but of the same quality. Ask for a private clinic. Your fiancé should know where to look.
  19. Are you a USC and is she your biological daughter? If so she qualifies for citizenship through you. You can register her birth and get her a passport without having to wait on NOA2. Then fly to get her and bring her to your home. In fact, I suspect that a biological daughter DOESN'T qualify for a K2..but you'd have to check with someone else on the details for that as I'm not sure. Alternatively you can have doctors in her current location check her out. I think there are some good private ones especially. Imho (and having dealt with ear issues a lot though I'm NOT a doctor!) if it's not a sudden-onset situation a few months may not matter. It has gone this long it is unlikely to warrant an expedite as there is medical care in Togo. The potential expedite could take longer to process than the rest of the k1 visa process. We're all ALMOST there, fingers crossed!
