  1. Hi! Similar situation with, I am US citizen, husband is Australian and got US Citizenship in 2021.  We are planning on moving back to Aus in about 3 years.  I have researched a bunch and from what I can tell- if we all (we are family of 6) go back then myself, and the older kids couldnt work until the application is completed.  If my husband goes back, had a job, gets a bank account etc, myself and the 2 older kids can still work here in the US.  So for us, thats how we will do it bc we cannot make it on just 1 income.  I also read that sometimes when you are applying for the Aus visa and have been married a while with kids, they will grant both the temporary one and the permanent one at the same time. :)

I do agree with the other person that advised your husband to get his US citizenship.

Also, from my research, to buy a house in Melbourne, they look at income, debt ratio.  So thats why my husband would go back first.  We want to buy a house instead of renting if possible.

Happy to see you on here in similar circumstamces!

I had an interesting experience at the DMV today. My NOA is 7/19/17 and like many others I received the courtesy copy of the 18 month extension. My drivers license was set to expire based on the 1 year extension so I went to the dmv to get the license extended for the additional 6 months noted on the courtesy copy. Like always the dmv sent my documents to USCIS to determine when they should set the new license to expire. They got the approval back and to my surprise they gave me a new 8 year (this is the max in my state for a standard license) license rather than the expected 6 month extension. Maybe I’m thinking to much into this but my thought is USCIS May have already reviewed my application and let the DMV know it’s good to go. Otherwise why would they allow them to give me a 8 year license. Interested to hear what everyone thinks?

My husband went today to renew his drivers license (TN).  He took his passport with the I 551 stamp and all the letters. The lady looked up his info and asked if he had gotten his card yet bc its showing approved.  He of course said No. Lol.  Like, if he had it, he would have gladly given it!

So she said, well maybe its in the mail.

Approved his license for 8 years and told him he has 8 yrs to bring in the green card so they have it on file.

    😊😁

    Roc 7.3.17.

Havent had any updates online since the weird 'transfers' in feb/ march.

  4. We filed ROC on 7-3-2017.    Have not received the new extension letter.   Original letter expires on Sept 20, 2018.

Husband went to Nashville today for the I-551 stamp.  No issues.  She was very nice.  Gave him back his green card and original extension letter.

Also said it will be "a while" until he gets the 10 yr green card. Sigh.

But overall, happy he has the stamp now for travel.   It is good for a year.

  5. Thought I would share our experience as we just traveled to Australia and back.  My husband took his expired green card and his extension letter.  No issues flying into Aus as he is a citizen.

Coming back home, the woman at the Qantas counter wasn't sure which number to put in the system so she had to ask a supervisor, which took some time.  But no major issues there.

Once we arrived at LAX, and it was quite early- 6:30 am, we went through customs and the man simply looked at his green card and the extension letter and sent us on our way, very nice and polite.

His letter expires September 20, 2018.
So all in all, no issues with using the green card and letter.

    You are still not understanding . . . it's a computer glitch.

When I said you can put in any number I meant, of course, any valid number.

I put in my own valid number and guess what, it said my file transferred to local office on that very day !!!

People who applied Feb 2018 and put in their number, and got message their file was transferred on that very day that they checked.

Those who have not checked their own first reference number, can put it in today, and be assured they will get message that their file was transferred today.   If they wait until next week to check their number for first time, the message will say their file was transferred that very day.

Nope.  I checked ours today and it said 2-26-18.  2 days ago.   You are not correct.

  7. Seems like I should be trying to get a visa for Australia! Three months off work, back for 6 weeks and then another holiday? Sounds heavenly! Why would anyone want to leave that? Did you not want to move to Australia?

I have children from a previous marriage and it was much easier for him to move here than all of us to move there. But yes, we all would like to eventually.

Because everything can kill you there! LOL

    lol!

  8. I just wanted to say thank you for this comment. Sometimes these posts get you thinking and I started thinking since my fiance had came twice for almost 90 days at a time if we would now have issues with our k1. Did your husband ever come visit while you were in the process of k1? If so, may I ask how the officer took it?

    :)

He had been here from Oct through Dec. of 2013.

We applied for the K1 in Feb 2014, and he was in the US at the time, he stayed till end of April/early May... sry don't remember exact dates. :)

I went over to AUS in July for 10 days and then he got interview and Approval in August 2014. He came 2 days later. (yay) The AUS consulate interview was very quick. I had sent a lot of proof of our relationship. But no mention was made of how many times he came here or the durations- in a bad sense I mean. They saw the passport stamps and the airline ticket stubs of course. But only noted them as strong proof of our relationship, not detrimental.

  9. Just my personal thoughts from experience (hubby is Australian)

I see no issue with her coming 90 days. My husband did multiple times before we got engaged and then married after the K1. Many Aussies come to the US and travel for 3 months. They get lots of holiday time. To me, it is not out of the ordinary for Australians to have long travel holidays.

The only time he got any different comment from the officer upon entry, was when it had only been 6 weeks in between visits. The officer told him to just be careful to not come too frequently.

    Good luck.
